Well Built, cool looking, genuine guitar, 11 May 2010

Took some getting used to after using my Frontman guitars the guitar is fine. Built well, and way more realistic than the guitar hero guitars. Like any PS3 guitar or 3rd party anything you will have to use up a USB spot to use the guitar as it requires a dongle to connect it (since the ps3 is bluetooth and the guitars are not). I can't say I every use the lower buttons for solos because frankly its not worth the practice of keeping your fingers really close together and if you have big enough hands its actually more of a hassle. One truly negative thing I will say about the guitar is still annoying is the clicking, the strum bar is silent yet the buttons are anything but. They loudly click everytime you press them. So you better have the volume turned up!

In the end, if you can get over the clicking, this guitar is fine. I don't have a drum set so the two usb ports on the ps3 are enough for my two guitars however for a full "band" it may be an issue that requires a usb hub. The battery life on the guitar is great, and it is very responsive. I bought my guitar from here for somewhere around 25 dollars, which is way below list price for a new guitar so I really can't complain!

Good secondary guitar., 1 Apr 2010

I bought this as a second guitar for Rock Band 2. Just looking at this next to the Rock Band 2 guitar you don't notice much of difference other than color. However, the RB2 guitar is more easily playable due to a slicker fret board. Also the receiver for this guitar does not have a USB in like the RB2 receiver so if you have a PS3 slim you will need a USB hub to play all 4 instruments at once.

Overall, great buy for a second guitar.

Works ok, still has the same problems as original model, 25 Mar 2010

We received the guitar quickly, but out of the box there was something rattling around inside - like something had broken inside. Hooked it up and the light didn't light, but it still works. Seems a little more sluggish than the original, but you can calibrate it. Biggest problem after a month - still having a problem going to "power boost" mode. The accelerometer only works some of the time... Still the strumming is pretty good and the fret buttons easy to manipulate overall. Not bad.

    guitar stinks, 28 Dec 2009

Rating is for the guitar that comes with the PLAYSTATION 3 RockBand. This was a gift for my daughter for Christmas. The guitar strum was DOA. The whole unit made a funny humming noise. Followed the directions from the company for a return after being on hold for an hour plus. They said to use "canned air". We searched all day to find any store open to buy the canned air to spray into the strum. No luck there. Finally got the canned air--still did what it did before, which was to not really move at all on the down stroke. There are enough bad reviews on this and the strum to suggest that there is no quality control or testing of batches prior to shipping. Now we have to pay for a return (bought on Amazon). The packaging is so tight that repacking to send to Amazon is crazy. Now we have a can of canned air--that we never needed or wanted before.

Get guitar hero guitars instead :), 14 Sep 2009

The one that came with my RB2 had a busted overdrive too - I opened it up to check the tilt sensor and it was fine. If I plugged guitar in the PC, it WOULD send a signal once I tilted past 15 degrees or so, but in the RB2 game with the ps3, it didn't care. Something was wrong.

Solution: Picked up cheap guitar hero game for $30 with 2 wireless guitars and hubs, gave away one guitar.. I like the strum better, and overdrive works. Also looks cooler.

(I gave the guitar hero game away haha)

    No overdrive, 11 Sep 2009

I just got this today, and it works perfectly fine if you don't want to go into overdrive. Trying to deploy overdrive with this thing made we want to scream. I felt like smashing it into tiny little bits because I would spend so much time frustrated at it while trying to deploy overdrive that I would completely fail out of the song. Don't buy this. Look for the newer model.

Better than the rest, 10 Sep 2009

I've played GH, RB1, RB2, and the WarBeast guitars. The RB1 is still my favorite, to the point that I've ordered another RB1 guitar to have as a backup when one of the others dies. I don't know if anyone else has tried this and had this issue, but when playing one RB1 with one RB2 guitar, there's a lot of notes missed - I think there's trouble with the wireless signals between the two different guitars. But I've gotten more 100% with my RB1 guitar than any of the others...

worth the buy, 7 Sep 2009

i really like it, but the thing that they got wrong was that they made the strum bar silent and the frett buttons loud and clanky, what they should of done is make the strum bar a little louder and the fret buttons silent.

overall: great looking guitar controller and plays well.

    Wireless isn't always a good thing, 30 Jul 2009

While wireless controllers are a nice idea, sometimes proper quality parts are not used in order to save money. I recently got one of these as part of a Rock Band package (PS2 version of game, drums, guitar, mic).

    Pros:

-The guitar has a nice size and weight to it.

-It came with batteries, a rare thing.

-On-Off switch, excellent for maximizing battery life.

    -The fret buttons click loudly.

-The strum bar doesn't click, good if you don't like the clickiness of the strum bar on Guitar Hero controllers.

    -No cord.

    Cons:

-For the tilt/overdrive function to work you need to tilt the controller very vertical, very quickly, if you don't get it up enough, quickly enough, it can't tell that you've tilted it.

    -The fret buttons click loudly.

-The strum bar doesn't click, bad if you like the clickiness of the strum bar on Guitar Hero controllers.

-The wireless isn't great, it drops a note every so often while playing. I do not have an interference issue, as my regular wireless controllers work fine. I know it's dropping a note when a note doesn't get played that I know I defiantly hit, or when a hold down note drops off halfway through while I'm still holding the button down.

-The console dongle is a little box with a 3 inch USB cable, when I plug it in I then have to find someplace to put the thing so it's not just dangling of the front of the console.

After having this controller drop 5-10 notes in a song I went back to playing with the original wired red Guitar Hero guitar, with a controller extension cable. I get the same freedom of range as the wireless controller, with no dropped notes.

** Dongle is a term for a device you plug into a computer or device to enable a function it wouldn't normally have, a USB flash drive can be called a dongle. **

Really disapointing shipping, 26 Apr 2009

Not only did took more than I expected, also the size of the box I guess for carrying purposes, it was a total waste of space. Easily you could have fit in there like 20 more guitars. Bottom line regarding the guitar works great and next time pack things more according to the product size.

    flawless, 14 Apr 2009

the rock band guitar for ps2/ps3 is pretty good. What I don't like about the guitar is the strum bar.when there is a fast part on the same note, the strum bar does not do it's work by strumming fast. What I really do not like is that when you activate star power by lifting the guitar up,it won't work. You HAVE to press the select button.Which can mess you up in an easy way.I thought the desingn was very cool unlike many other guitars.Overall, yeah it's pretty good.

It works, but..., 4 Feb 2009

I bought a wireless guitar for the PS3 after receiving Rock Band 2: Special Edition for Christmas. The guitar works, but here are some things you might wanna know about it...

    - The guitar won't go into overdrive mode simply by tilting it a few degrees. You'd have to either press Select or tilt it repeatedly. With the latter option, hopefully you'll be lucky and overdrive activates by the 3rd-5th tilt. (Maybe the guitar I received was faulty, but as a warning.)

    - The guitar doesn't have the player indicator lights under the PS button like the one bundled with Rock Band 2. (Most may overlook this and only applies to PS3.)

    - The guitar can't be used to auto-calibrate the game like you can with the one bundled with Rock Band 2. (Minor annoyance since it was made for Rock Band 1.)

Very Poor Shipping, 23 Jan 2009

I ordered this item for Christmas delivery ( I even paid more to ensure that it arrived on December 23rd). Not only did I not receive it in time to be given as a Christmas present when it did finally show up over a week later, the box was damaged and wet.

I will certainly think very hard before ordering from you again.

better then the new, 24 Nov 2008

this guitar has in my opion out performed the new guitar with straight reliablity. the new one needs to go back and be redone. this one works and its cheaper i am happy with it. the new one is not worth the extra money for a better paint job and quieter buttons.

Love Rock Band, but the guitar controller is of such poor quality that it is simply infuriating. My whammy bar just broke on the third replacement guitar I have gone through. That is a first...the overdrive feature failed on the others. I have also had problems with the strum bar. This controller needs a better warranty...it is not like I am 14 and beating the crap out of my toy. I am nearly 40 and take care of my things. Poor quality out of the box.

That said, I love the feel of the "strat" style guitar. more comfortable than the guitar hero les paul. Plus having the fretboard keys the full size of the fret space is nice, since it allows one to slide up to a note in the harder levels. I just wish it worked as well as the guitar hero guitar.

Haven't tried any after market versions. Maybe they work better???

    Replacing guitar, 7 Sep 2008

LOVE this game, rockband is the best. However, my guitar that came with the game is done, it won't work when you push down and the whammy bar broke. The new one is ok so far, and it is cheaper on Amazon!!

It just works, 5 Sep 2008

I really didn't have much choice when it came to a guitar for Rockband. This was pretty much it. Some times I wonder how well the accelerometer works.

Great but not essential, 2 Sep 2008

The extra guitar is a great option if you don't want to leave one of your friends without play while you and 2 other buddies are playing/singing. The bass player is not the thrill of the game, specially since the songs that are available are not that great for bass playing.

Overall I would recommend if you have the extra cash. But I would have saved the cash for another game....

    Cheers!
