    Killzone 2, 15 May 2010

Killzone 2 was my first purchase in 2009 and I came away from it with surprised at how good the game was. I had my doubts thinking it would be terrible since the bar was been set high by COD4 and Halo 3 who were the top FPS games to beat in 2009. I was lucky enough to be in the beta in 2008 around November and loved it, the beta felt alot like Rainbow Six Vegas in the way the cover system worked. The demo made me want to buy this as reviews for it were good praising Killzone 2 as the best FPS on PS3. The single player mode is a bit short but still fun to play its about 8 hours long give or take what difficulty you play it on. The controls do take a bit to get used to, you have different presets to chose from and can't map the buttons to what buttons you want them to be assigned to. The graphics are amazing probably the best for PS3 really dark and depressing and they really pushed the PS3 to the max. The voice acting is pretty good probably b rated movie at its worse not really great but still reminds me alot of Gears of War voice acting. The story is pretty interesting your the ISA going against the Helgeist to take down their leader once and for all who is still alive from the events of Killzone 1. What I miss is that your only playing as one character throughout the game as Killzone had you play as one of four different characters throughout the game.

The online is really great, you can play as either the ISA or Helgeist with different classes to chose from as you rank up to the different ranks in the game. As you get higher you unlock different perks for your class and weapons that you can use. There is also DLC consisting of maps from the original Killzone and new maps from the single player mode in Kilzone 2 based on the levels. What I do hate is that there is no cooperative mode would of been nice to play with a friend, its strictly a single player game only. Still for $30 you get a lot of excellent gameplay out of Killzone 2.

I love it.... the payback time., 12 May 2010

I just want to say that I really like this game, it is old considering the release date and when I got it... just months ago.

    But I enjoy it, overall.

    Thanks

    Mediocre FPS, 9 May 2010

I have to admit, after seeing the awards and hearing the raves about this game I was expecting something better than just a mediocre first person shooter.

I purchased this as a greatest hits so I only paid $27 which is a fair price. This game will occupy you for a few hours but if you've been spoiled by the likes of Bad Company 2, COD Modern Warfare 2 or even MAG, this game will let you down.

It grows on you...., 8 May 2010

Lemme start off by saying that this game is HARD. Seriously, you have really accomplished a real milestone in FPS gaming if you are an elite player in Killzone 2. Now on to the review.

The campaign is very generic and isn't as short as most people say it is. The first bits of game play are the best in any FPS ever IMO (right after you crash land). It really draws you in and immerses you into combat immediately. After the first 2 or 3 levels it feels really drawn out and dull. This is only because of the learning curve. Unlike Call of Duty's "run and gun" tactics, you are an actual soldier here with real weight and speed. You wanna just run out and kill em all, but you can't, just like in real life. You MUST take cover and make smart shots if you are to survive. It's VERY realistic, so if you are a COD junkie and can't adjust, it's like being a Midnight Club fan who can't adjust to Gran Turismo. This is a shooting sim here people.

In terms of gameplay, it is amazing at first. The first few levels are easy like any other game. The mid-levels are where the difficulty is turned up quite a bit all of a sudden as I said, so it'll seem very drawn out and tedious, because of the difficulty. When you kill someone, it is so rewarding that I can't even begin to explain without sounding like a sadist. Unlike ANY other shooting game, you feel that you've accomplished something when you see the beautiful death animations of the Helghast. You barely ever see 2 of the same death animations, once again making the game that much more realistic. However, the game can seem very unbalanced at times. While you'll die in a few shots, it'll seem like your enemy takes about 10 or 12 shots before going down. In reality you must be pin point accurate because chances are, 5 or 6 of those shots missed entirely. I'll admit for gameing purposes tht=at it is WAAAAAAAAAAAY too hard to aim in this game. It's absolutely brutal. Another mis-step of the game play is a lack of variety in the guns. You'll likely just stick with the assault rifle (green sight) because it is much better than all the other guns. One last complaint is that the Helghast are too accurate with the shotgun, and too abusive with grenades. You'll die from grenades much more than gunfire. And you'll die for sure if the Helghast has a shotgun in skirmish, and you're within 15 feet.

The graphics are indeed beautiful as we all know. As much as Uncharted and God of War, you MUST MUST have an HDTV to experience the beauty of this game. I know from experience. I played this game for a day on skirmish before my HDTV was shipped here, and boy was I underwhelmed on the SDTV. Once I plugged my PS3 into my HDTV via HDMI, I was in HEAVEN. It was so stunningly beautiful that I could not believe it! Even the ground, every piece of dirt, gravel, and rubble is extremely detailed. The difference is astoundingly different. The reflection on the guns are beautifully rendered as well. This game is drop dead gorgeous.

As for the online, I got killed like 6 or seven times in less than a minute. Yeah, you guys are awesome and I suck. So........I play skirmish. I played only 3 sessions of skirmish choosing random maps because they only display the name, and not a picture of the map (which sucks). The best thing is that these 3 locations weren't in the game. I may be wrong, but I don't remember these levels at all in campaign, so that's a plus.

Overall, if you're getting this as a Call of Duty fan, RENT IT. The gameplay is superior to the arcadey COD, and takes real skill and timing to get kills. The campaign dialogue is forgettable, and overall not very good. BUT is still is awesome somehow. The graphics, physics/realism, and set pieces make the campaign a blast. This is a rich man's shooter in terms of gmaeplay and graphics.

A good FPS shooter, lots of action and a fast paced game. Still working on the single player missions, and later the on-line game should be interesting.

Last Battle Spoils the Game, 26 Apr 2010

I am playing the game at the Veteran level and was really enjoying it until the end at Visari's Palace where I get stuck with Rico the Retard. At that point the game ceased to be fun and became frustrating. First of all, if you are playing at an advanced level you better be sure to bring in a decent weapon--like the LMG. The big problem is Rico. This guy is best at shooting off his mouth but not so much at shooting the enemy. He is a liability. He constantly complains that he's taking fire, but he rarely returns fire. He often positions himself where he is useless, allowing the enemy to outflank you. When he gets himself wounded he usually gets you killed. Once he ran into the fire and was put out of action. He is constantly telling you to take cover because that is what he is doing most of the time. He tells you to watch his back, but he never watches yours. At the level when the gates open for you to run upstairs I will kill 6 Helghasts with the knife (to conserve ammo for the LMG) while he stands around doing nothing but yelling commands and swearing at me. I believe I have killed as many as 30 Helghasts without Rico the Retard killing one. When does Rico suddenly spring into action? When you are dead, and then he starts waving his arms in a way that makes you think he's on the side of the Helghasts. I have been so angry with him that I have turned the knife on him. Finally, the PS3 controller leaves a lot to desire. It's sloppy and doesn't always respond--such as when you need to sprint.

Maybe this game was designed as a multi-player game--I don't know. But I do know that games like MASS EFFECT, ARMY OF TWO, and others give you companions that you can rely on (not a mental defective). That makes them fun, not frustrating to play.

Later... Okay, so after finishing the game I felt pretty good. I think it took longer to finish the end of KILLZONE than to play the entire BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY II, a great game but a little too easy at the most difficult level (one helicopter battle was a challenge). In that regard KILLZONE gives you a more challenging game. And at the end there is a strategy that will enable you to beat the game fairly easily. What frustrated me was I started to think no such strategy existed and that I would have to play and play, shooting and dodging until I simply was lucky to survive long enough to beat my ghostly pursuer. But that wasn't true. A strategy does exist. I just had to find it. Enough about that. What I finally realized playing KILLZONE at the veteran level was that you have to play games at the most difficult level to most fully get the gaming experience and your money's worth. Only at the most difficult level do strategies become really important. At easier levels you can just run and gun your way through the game. Not much fun and really not what the best games are all about.

Was KILLZONE 2 better than BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2? The first has lots of issues, such as with weapons and buddy support. The second, great weapons, great environs, great AI buddy support, humor, character realism and a lot of fun to play. In many ways to me a superior game. Still I like the fact that KILLZONE could be very frustratingly challenging--which occurred only once in BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2. And I actual appreciate a game doing that to me even though I may smash my controller to bits. It reminds me of those earlier RESIDENT EVIL games. As I recall, they didn't even give you a choice of difficulty level. They were just difficult for everyone, which is one of the reasons they are great games.

Good game, but controls cause it to suffer, 15 Apr 2010

GREAT GRAPHICS. This game looks amazing. It's fun to play. Challenging.

However, the controls take away from the enjoyment of the game. It's difficult to aim accurately. I think they did this to make the game seem more realistic...but it hampered my enjoyment of what would have been a 5-star game that I played over and over. Instead, I sold it on ebay before I even finished it. Such a shame, as it was a world that was so much fun to play in. But I could not get over how frustrating the controls were, no matter how much I tried to adjust them. I'd play this game, then go back to COD and fell much more at home. I hope they address this issue in the next installment.

Others didn't have as much to complain about in regards to the controls, but if you are a casual gamer like me, rent it first.

    Killzone 2 another reason to purchase a PS3, 10 Apr 2010

This game is EPIC! hands down. First of all the graphics are terific, the textures in the walls, the character models, the cutscenes, and it really adds to the enviroment around you like grenades going off, people screaming, and loud guns etc. The controls can be a bit annoying at first but after a while it really starts to feel comftorable and you start to reconize the controls. The story is actually pretty good and has improved alot since the original game killzone 1. Basiclly it is an amazing game and the only little thing that can be annoying is when you get to a checkpoint, but its no big deal. I have beat this game and played its multyiplayer millions of times, and i highly recomend this game 5 out of 5 stars!

All Flash... no Substance, 9 Apr 2010

After reading all the great reviews, I was very much looking forward to this game. However, after playing it around 6 to 7 hours, I am left with much disappointment. If you want a great first person shooter for your PS3, go with Modern Warfare 2 or Resistance 2. If you want a game that looks good but plays terrible, Killzone 2 is your game. Overall, I really regret buying Killzone 2 and can't see how this game got all the good reviews. I am guessing it is because it is a Playstation exclusive.

    Pros:

-Graphics are pretty good (though not any more impressive than Resistance 2 or Modern Warfare 2)

-Lots of effort has been put in cinematics

    Cons:

-Control feel is terrible. The reaction of your characters movement lags, aiming is slow and imprecise. It feels like my character is trying to walk on ice without slipping.

-Lots of 2-3 second pauses throughout the game ruin the feel of the game.

-Game feels like it is running in slow motion. I haven't checked the frames per second but I wouldn't be surprised if the frames per second drop to under 20.

-Your guy is very short, but isn't. During all the cutscenes, it is obvious you are as tall as anyone else, but when playing the game, you are literally two feet shorter than everyone else.

-Characters are a joke. Main character has no personality. Everyone else is a caricature.

    i finally get it, 5 Apr 2010

i bought killzone 2 the day of its release last year and anxiously threw it in the ps3 when i got home from work that day. after spending countless hours playing 'modern warfare' [and being relatively new the world of video games at the time], i was expecting KZ2 to give me a similar experience to MW. needless to say, i was in for a huge surprise, and ultimately my pre-conceived notions and biases left me feeling disappointed with the game. i played about 1/2 through it before finally calling it quits and moving on to other pixelated pastures.

well, about two weeks ago i was felled with a bout of insomnia and for whatever reason, i popped in KZ2 for the first time in over a year. i never played the multiplayer during my initial gameplay, so i thought i'd give it a try. after playing countless TDMs on MW and MW2, KZ2's multiplayer was a breath of fresh air. i had an absolute blast and spent three or foour hours straight playing. i loved playing 5 different game modes ['bodycount,' 'assasination' [my favorite], 'search and destroy,' 'search and retrieve, and 'capture and hold'] during one game is brilliant. each mode lasts a max of five minutes and it keeps the game fresh and keeps you on your toes. i also found the hit detection to be pretty good, none of the weapons overpowered, and the maps nicely varied in design and art direction.

the single-player campaign [which i finally played through over the weekend] was amazing. i don't know that there's a FPS with better graphics than KZ2. the environments are amazing to look at [even if many of them are bleak and dreary]. there's a nice assortment of vehicles and missions. the story is interesting enough and full of moral vagaries. some of the characters seem to come straight from central casting, but sgt. sevechenko [the playable character] manages to avoid, for the most part, the cliches and conventions of FPS characters. and col. radec, the big bad, is a very memorable and intriguing villan with his scratchy voice/breathing mask and miliary saavy.

my biggest complaint the first time i played it was that the guns felt very sluggish and i hard time adjusting to the slow rotation times, especially when scoped. i tinkered with the sensitivity and fixed that. the only complaint i still have with the game is having to push R3 to scope instead of L1, like pretty much every other shooter out there. the end result is that you end up hip-firing a lot, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it makes shooting targets in the distance that much more challenging. one other minor complaint: the load times on the multiplayer are extremely long and you occasionally get some awkward and extended load/save times during the campaign.

hopefully the drop in price will encourage more people to get the game and fill the multiplayer lobbies back up. you can get the three DLCs [which include six maps and various guns] released up to this point for $11.99, which is a bargain considering MW2's 5 'new' maps will run you $14.99. and with KZ3 announced for release this fall/winter, so if you've not taken a trip to helghast yet, now's a great time.

Great game, but could have been much better., 14 Mar 2010

This game should have been a 5 star, 10/10, A+ game. It has the potential to be so. But Its not. Heres why...

when I turned on my PS3 with my brand new 60$ copy of killzone 2, I was amazed. the graphics are awesome, the gameplay is great, the sound is fantastic. If I had to rate each part of this game I had to give it 5 stars in almos everything. Yet as a whole, Its an 8.5/10.

Heres the biggest flaw: the story of the game has its highs but is very poor. Its like they thought of it overnight and had no real intention to create a really captivating story. That makes the single player campaign far from great. Besides, it ends too fast. The campaign is too short for me. Not worth the price.

The best of the game is the online multiplayer. It doesnt require a fast internet connection, the range of weapons and classes is excellent, and the way each class complements and balances with the other is very good. You could easily group with three players and share voice communication and positions, making it easy and fun playing with friends online.

After all, they missed a really good chance in making an epic game with a better longer story, and perhaps a co-op campaing mode. They had all the ingredients there.

Above and Beyond, 10 Mar 2010

I paid $60 for this game when it came out. I've also bought all the dlc. I still feel like I robed Guerrilla Games. I still like to play the linear, straight-forward, yet completely awesome single-player. I've spent most of the time playing the multiplayer. I like to think when I play, so mix and matching class abilities was a lot of fun. This is one aspect of the game I think people who don't get.

One interesting combination of class abilities I've used was finding a shotgun, using cloak, and proximity mines in an enemy base. I'll be standing right next to them and they won't see their death coming.

    Pros:

    Original sci-fi setting

    Extremely great production values

Believable movement, both for your character, and when enemies get hit

Class-based multiplayer with two special abilities adding a great deal of strategy

Multiplayer matches roll through objectives constantly changing the focal point of the battle

    Cons:

Some people think the controls. I love the controls.

Can't use cover in multiplayer (kind of odd)

It's Good in general. Will keep you going and engaged with its story line. The aiming and shooting controls are not as good as Call of Duty, but you'll get used to it once started. The battles and engagments with the enemies are very good and its much more of a war.

    Best Shooter of 2009, 6 Feb 2010

    Positives

+ Realistic weapon design with somewhat weighted controls.

    + Great level design.

+ Amazing enemy AI in singleplayer.

+ Dark and menacing enemy character designs.

+ Excellent graphics and presentation, arguably only topped by Uncharted 2 on the ps3.

+ Fun multiplayer that involves a class system, objective based gameplay, and dynamic rounds per match (for example, it can go from Bodycount to Search & Destroy to Assassination without switching maps).

+ Built in clan system for multiplayer, allowing you to form clans, arrange official matches with other clans, and bet points on matches.

    Negatives

    - Weak story in singleplayer.

    - Annoying characters in singleplayer.

    - Weak allied AI.

    - Assault class in multiplayer is somewhat broken, but you have the option to disable different classes/weapons/etc when making a game.

Overall, I'd highly recommend this game, and it's in my top five favorite games for 2009. It has a great story mode and an addictive competitive multiplayer mode. However, if you're looking for cooperative play, this may not be the title for you. In that case, I'd highly recommend the fast and frenetic Left 4 Dead 2, my second favorite shooter of the year.

    GREAT FPS!!!!!, 30 Jan 2010

    WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe it took me over a year to get this game, at the same time I got this one I got Killzone for the PS2, so right after i finished the first game I dove into this one, I know there is not much to say after all the great reviews, but here is what I think. The graphics are great, the story had me with out blinking, specially the end, the use of weapons feels very natural, the AI is no pushover, and gives you about 9 hours of fun, actually I intend to play an all night. My only complain is that in the box says it supports full 1080p HD, and it does not, it goes as far as 720, and I have seen this in a lot of games that claim to support full HD, I have de HDMI cable, the BRAVIA TV, so can anyone help me with this. Anyway, this game is awesome.

    Awesome Multiplayer & Atmosphere, 23 Jan 2010

I have had this game since day one. Its now January 22 2010. I'm still playing it!!! There is no other FPS out there like this. Killzone is really one of a kind. The games atmosphere is gorgeous. The graphics are amazing, second only to Uncharted 2, and second to none in the FPS genre on consoles. Heres a tip, hook your PS3 up to surround sound and play this game and BAM, you will be blown away.

Multiplayer is all team based. Theres 12 ranks you go through which unlock multiple guns and badges. Badges such as air bots, turrets, C4, boost, and med packs. This game takes skill to play. You might sneer at that fact about "skill", but pop this game in and it feels like no other FPS.

I give this game 5 stars because it is truly a captivating single player and online multiplayer experience. Its a one of a kind shooter with the fan base to back it up. Tons of people are still playing and no problem finding matches at all.

No, matter how many games I have in my gaming library I still play Killzone every other day. BUY IT!!!

    Horrible Multiplayer, 15 Jan 2010

Have played this game now for a couple of weeks and overall was impressed with the campaign mode. The field of vision is very narrow as opposed to say gears of war. This doesnt really bring the game down too much though. It does get repetitive but than again most games do. When this happens nowadays you simply play the multiplayer. As most PS3 games I didnt have any lag and the menu was quite good.

Whats so horrible than? Well for starters the cover system has been removed from the multiplay component of the game. Think this is no big deal? It really is,the entire game is built around it yet taken out of the multiplay.

So now you just enter games grab weapons and respawn constanly in a field of a dozen of so players hitting you from all sides with guns and grenades. No strategy ,no cover ,very little teamwork and you simply die contsantly respawn charge out and shoot hopefully take down a player or two and than your dead again than nyou respaw.

Frantic action with no thought or startegy, unike gears of war or even call of duty games... Horrible.. Maybe the teams should be less players, put the cover system back in and have smaller maps and it could work but now its just horrible .

Why people can even say the multiplay is fun is beyond me.. Brainless shooting is fun? Wheres the startegy of tracking down your opponents, ducking under cover and working in teams??

An impressive tech-demo ruined by awful controls, 10 Jan 2010

Go ahead. Mark my review as "unhelpful" because I'm not giving the PS3's so-called killer app 5-stars. Write comments about how stupid I am or how I just don't get it or how I'm a Microsoft fanboy (never mind the fact that I was scathing in my reviews of both Halo 2 and Halo 3). I really don't care because anyone with a brain will read what I actually have to say, and as someone who has been playing FPS games for almost 15 years now, I think I know a thing or two.

Killzone 2 puts the complex technologies inside the PS3 to amazing use, and the end result is brilliant lighting, detailed textures, and impressive sound. There isn't a lot to criticize when it comes to this game's audio and visual arsenal, as the graphics are killer and the music and sound effects are equally effective if their effect is a bit more subtle. I found myself having to crank the brightness on my TV a bit just because parts of the campaign get so very dark, but that's part of the game's intended feel, so I don't consider that a weakness. The frame-rate is solid, and seems to hover around 30-fps, which isn't fast, but given the visual detail, adequate. I noticed some slow down during larger firefights, but nothing that compromised the ability to play the game. Overall, the game's atmosphere is top-notch.

The campaign itself is also good. The characters are pretty much cardboard, but the real point is shooting stuff. The overall mechanics are a blend of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Gears of War 2, with a cover system coupled with an aim-down-sight system. The cover is essential as the enemy AI is smart enough to use cover, as well as throw frag grenades at you when you try to hide too long, so firefights can get pretty intense. Like Gears or COD4, there's no health bar, so you can take a certain amount of damage before you have to duck out and recover. The missions aren't anything shatteringly new, but they're implemented well enough and their is enough variety that it never drags out like Halo 3.

So what's my major issue with this game? The controls. They are ASTOUNDINGLY bad. Your character controls like a drunken monkey. Like Halo 3, Killzone 2 does that annoying variable sensitivity crap, where when you initially push the right stick to look around, it moves very slowly. Then after a second to being held, it suddenly speeds up. The end result half of the time you see a target, move the stick to look at them, and then right as your crosshair is lining up, the sensitivity suddenly jumps and you end up overshooting your target and missing. The end result is you can neither aim carefully (as it will eventually speed up) or snap around to respond to incoming fire (because it's always initially slow). It's beyond infuriating, and regardless how you mess with the sensitivity or control settings, it's not something you can disable. Coupled with the fact that the game goes a little overboard with the head swaying as you run or jump, and you basically have a recipe for consistent disorientation and difficulty hitting targets. Eventually, given enough time, you'll probably get used to it and learn to adapt to its stupidity. But it's just mind-blowing to me that so much time and effort can be spent on the game's graphics, sounds, and design (which are all great), and then no one had the common sense to raise their hand and say, "Wow, maybe we should do something about these awful controls."

It may seem like I'm being too harsh, but the fact is the controls are essential to playing the game, and good controls are essential to any FPS. Killzone 2's garbage handling genuinely makes it difficult for me to enjoy the rest of the game which is clearly the result of a lot of time, effort, and money. The campaign is good, the multiplayer is fun if a bit generic, and in high-definition with quality speakers it's a genuine assault on your living room (in the best way possible). Is it better than Halo 3? Frankly, I think that's a wrong question because Halo isn't available on PS3 so in that sense doesn't even really compete except on a stupid fanboy level, and because in my opinion Halo isn't even really that good anymore.

The question then is whether or not Killzone 2 is the premier action experience on the PS3, and I'd say no. Modern Warfare 2 may not have quite as much pizazz in its visuals as Killzone 2, but the game's campaign, mechanics, and most importantly, controls, are just so far ahead that they make Killzone look like a kid on crutches trying to race an Olympic athlete through hurdles. And for a single-player experience, Uncharted 2's Tomb Raider/Dirk Pitt mix is such a terrific blast of fun that it's far more memorable and entertaining. Thus, Killzone 2 isn't a bad game by any means and it can be fun if you can adjust to its idiotic controls. But Modern Warfare 2 is a better action shooter than Halo or Killzone, and luckily enough for everyone, it's available on both systems.

Don't shoot till you see the red of their eyes., 10 Jan 2010

I was not a fan of the original, but I heard alot of good things about this game and I rented it. Wow was I suprised by how good the campaign was. The graphics are really good, they are dark but that is the feel they were going for. I didn't know alot of the story from the first one but I was able to jump into the action, and the story made alot of sense. This game should have definatly been mentioned for Game of the Year. I don't think it should have won it, but it deserved to be mentioned.

Presentation- The menus are pretty unique. You can move the angle of the menu with the sixaxis. There is some great music as well, along with some pretty good cutscenes, and voice acting. Some of the repetitive phrases while your playing could have been done better, but overall good voice overs. 4.5/5

Graphics- The graphics are amazing, and show just how good a game can look on the PS3 even though it is now nearly a year old. The facial features could have been done a little better, but overall it is stunning to look at. 5/5

Game play- The aiming is a little hard to get used to. It's a little slow to turn, but you get used to it. There is a cover system, but it could be done alittle better. You have to hold the R2 button to stay in cover and it gets annoying having to hold it. In order to aim you have to tap the R3 button. I wish it would have been L1 like Call of Duty. Also there is no grenade indicator. Sometimes it is hard to figure out where you're being hit from, and the enemies sneak up on you, killing you with one punch. None of these issues distract greatly from a fun campaign. On a positive note you are not the center of attention. The AI will actually target your teamates as well, and they will actually fire back and kill the Helghast. There are also alot of weapons to choose from, eventhough you have to keep the pistol at all times which is annoying. You use the sixaxis for setting bombs and opening passageways. I'm glad the motion control is still used on this console. 4/5

Story/Campaign- The story is easy to follow, but that doesn't mean it's any less epic. It has a well developed plot and leaves you wanting more as you wait for Killzone 3. The campaign has alot of different locales that keep it from getting boring. The variety lets you see just how good the graphics engine is with it's various environments. There is never a spot that the action stops. The campaign keeps you sucked in from start to finish. There are a few levels with vehicles which is a nice change of pace. It is somewhat short though and will only take about six hours to beat. It does conclude with an epic boss battle that is the most difficult part of the game. Which it should be. 4.5/5

Fun Factor- This game was a blast all the way through. I could not put it down, and had fun shooting those helghast. 5/5

Lasting Appeal- This game begs to be completed again before the sequal is released. It does only last for six hours at most though. Online gaming is not my cup of tea so that will not keep me playing it. 3/5

The Verdict- This game was well done. How it was not nominated for Game of the Year boggles my mind. One of the best FPSs I've played this year. It did have some control problems, but played well and kept you on the edge of your seat the enitre time. I was never a fan of this series, but I am now.

    Overall 4.3

The word 'Epic' comes to mind., 5 Jan 2010

Playing this game reminds me of the few great FPS moments in the past, such as the original Halo game, the first Half-life, and the first COD (and COD2 Modern Warfare).

The sum it up, the game will leave you breathless -- especially if you play the veteran level+.

The game is gritty, hard and well-paced. If you have played other winning FPS titles, you will see Killzone 2 has combined the best elements from its brethren and cranked up the dials to boil. The chaos you will experience in some of the tight fighting levels will remind you of the beachhead landing level in COD. I have died countless times trying to push back the enemy line while they hold the high ground advantage. The AI and the share fire power on the opposing side will test your resolve, and just when you think the game is about to end, there's another goal to accomplish.

Some areas of improvements (perhaps for next Killzone).

    - Unlike Halo and Gears of War, there is no particular memorable characters. I think Killzone can benefit more if there are some characters more memorable like in GOW, Halo.

    - The weapons are great, except I have not seen any alternative fire mode. It's hard to imagine advanced weaponries in a story like Killzone don't have any alt-fire mode -- such as launching a grenade from their assault rifles.

    - The solder's landing vehicle is laughable and outrageous. The vehicle is basically a floating platform from hell with no strapping harness to speak off. The solders are expected to hold onto the railing with their hands and hope they don't fall off.

    - In-game loading time is quite disruptive, especially transitioning from one level to another.

I'm surprised that this game has not been given too much publicity (maybe it's just me), because I can see where their four years of effort went.

    - A way to turn off the F-bombs and adjust the gore level. I personally have no problem with the way it is now, but I can see this game can potentially gain a wider audience if there's way to adjust the gore/language settings.

Great game, crappy controls, 4 Jan 2010

    Pros

The game is great. Graphics are stunning; game play pacing is spot on; difficulty is perfect - not too hard, not too easy. One of the best looking and best presented games on the PS3.

    Cons

I've read before that the controls were similar to being under water - delayed and unresponsive - and I would have to say that's exactly how the controls are. I spent most of the time trying to correct my aim than actually aiming. Don't fool yourselves with ideas of grandeur about skill or experience with the controls. Go play Call of Duty and then play this game. The aiming delay in this game is horrible.

All in all, the single player campaign was a lot of fun despite the controls.

    Should you play it? Definitely.

Is it worth your $50 - $60? No, get it used, or on sale.
