    GTA 4 on PS3, 10 May 2010

The graphics are good, but it is very similar to the last title. The worst thing about the whole game is you have to drive across the city for almost every mission. It gets very old stil good for the same old same old.

Try harder next time....., 4 May 2010

When I started the game up, I was extremely underwhelmed by the graphics. The colors are washed out and the characters look fuzzy. IT IS MANDATORY that you turn up the contrast and saturation to be able to see in the game.

The basic element of GTA, the driving, has been totally redone.......and ruined. Yes the cars do handle as bad as everyone says they do. No longer is it a joy to drive to the mission areas, weave through traffic and cause havoc. I'm all for realism. I'm a huge fan of Gran Turismo and enjoyed the realistic, slower pace of Killzone 2 as opposed to the unrealistic Call of Duty and Midnight Club games. The cars have a good sense of weight, but turning corners is GOD-awful. You have to go very slow around ANY corner. This ruined the game entirely. It took down a star for me. Surprisingly, it gets even worse once you're on a motorcycle. Not everything about the cars is bad though. The super realistic damage system amazed me. If you do prefer to drive slow like the other cars, then the driving is PERFECT. Once you speed up, it gets real ugly.

As for stealing cars, it is MUCH harder this time around. There are cops EVERYWHERE. I only steal parked cars in secluded areas because the wanted system is NOT FUN. I don't want to have to drive 5 miles away from my destination to lose the cops. Matter of fact, I don't really want to drive at all because the mechanics are broken.(I've tried whistling a cab 5 times and ended up stealing the cab and getting busted by the cops on accident.)

As for the shooting, there's really nothing wrong with it besides the fact that I don't FEEL like I'm killing someone. With a pistol there is no vibration when pulling the trigger, so it feels very unresponsive. Basically there is no satisfaction from killing someone. The animations are top notch though, so it kinda subsides the empty feeling.

As for the city, yes, it is more realistic with the little touches like trash cans and bags that will topple over if you run into them (on foot or in car), and people on the side of the roads fixing their cars. Most websites claim that the city is ultra realistic and full of life and blah blah blah. Well, that's all BS. It feels like a polished San Andreas. One major flaw with the entire city is that if you re driving slow, or cut someone off, drivers will yell at you EVERY TIME WITH OUT FAIL. It gets really annoying and it makes you feel like EVERYONE in Liberty City is an a-hole. There is also random instances where even if you have the color saturation at max, the colors will fade out. It's not a glitch. I believe that is is their failed attempt at fog. IT'S ALREADY HARD ENOUGH TO DRIVE!

As for the story/characters, I'm torn. I'm maybe 10 percent done, but The ONLY characters I like are Niko (of course) and Little Jacob (although you really need subtitles). All the other characters so far are of the Diaz caliber if you played Vice City. They tell you they don't like someone, then you go kill them. Yawn.

As for the music, I try to keep the radio off. I'm a hip hop fan (Sha Stimuli, Talib Kweli, Common, Shad). If you listen to any of them, you'll HATE the hip hop from the game. Lackadaisical job at selecting music that creates an atmosphere for the game.

Overall the game feels like a test run. There was a lot of potential that was not realized, and the innovation is not there. The music, the characters, and the story are like an old friend who plays too damn much. You get tired of it, and annoyed after awhile. GTA might be getting Tony Hawk syndrome. Remember the days when Tony Hawk was one of the top console games? Then it turned into a joke after reusing the same formula OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Then it went in the wrong direction by doing stupid thing like adding a lawn mower as a vehicle to do tricks on, and the dreadful "Ride"......you know the story. I strongly believe that GTA 5 will be a masterpiece. The idiots who gave this a ten and Uncharted a 9 are insane. INSANE. Rent it. You won't beat it in a few days anyway so just rent it and see if you like it. I am not biased or spoiled because 2 days before this, I was using an Emerson tube TV and a PS2 as my main gaming station. All of a sudden m mom got me a PS3 and a Samsung HDTV with her tax return as my graduation gift. So I was going into this not knowing the sheer power of next-gen game. This game did not meet my basc expectations of going left-field in terms of story. The city is BORING. The 2 main problems are that the driving is awful and the city is a snooze-fest. What do you do most in a GTA game? Drive around a city!

Mostly Awesomeness. Some Lameness, 27 Apr 2010

I've never played the other GTA games, so if you're looking for a comparative review, check one of the other 300+ reviews of this game on here.

First and foremost, GTA 4 is super-addictive and loads of fun.

The story telling is top notch for a video game, and I found myself to be very invested in Niko's relationships as well as his quest for fortune and revenge.

The controls are intuitive and easy. The only exception would be that I do find hand to hand combat and non-projectile weapons to be a bit awkward and inconsistent. However, Guns and grenades are very easy to control and their parameters clear.

The driving mechanics are a bit tricky at first, and you've really got to spend some time mastering a dance between the brake and the e-brake to drive fast and fly around corners without flying out of control. However, it's pretty satisfying once you've gotten the hang of it. Driving motorcycles is (for me anyway) nearly impossible, and I always groaned when confronted with a motorcycle-necessary mission.

There's only one aspect of the game that makes this a 4 out of 5 star game (instead of a 6 out of 5 star game), and that's the fact that you can't restart from a checkpoint -- you have to restart each failed mission from the beginning. Let's say you're on a 20-30 minute mission, and just toward the end you get killed. Well, you've got to start all the way across the city, steal another car (or motorcycle, police car, etc), drive for however long (stopping by the gun shop to get more armor, etc.) and go through the WHOLE THING again. This seriously hamstrings the pace of the game and, at times, makes one want to scream, cry or commit murder from shear, unadulterated FRUSTRATION. Now, I may be crazy, but intense frustration is not the experience I am looking for when I buy a video game.

However, the other elements of this game are so satisfying, so rich and so undeniably exhilarating and fun that I found myself willing to slog through some of the more tedious missions to get to the other side of them. From what I understand, the newest installment, EPISODES FROM LIBERTY CITY, has remedied the no checkpoint aspect of the gameplay. So if you haven't played GTA 4 yet, and you're the impatient type, you may want to just give 4 a pass in favor of Episodes from Liberty City. I must say, though, you'll miss out on a darn good ride.

game worth playing!!!, 23 Apr 2010

I've been a very loyal fan of GTA. it all started during the late 90's. I have this Australian friend that showed me this game from his Pc and from that time on, the game really struck me. It's like being in this Illusion, A world where you can do almost anything that is impossible in the real world. I've been playing GTA games till now, It's been like a decade! OMG. GTA 4 is so far the best there is! I was so amazed during the release of GTA San Andreas, but dude, playing GTA 4 on PS3 is much more Awesome!!! It's really worth the time and money! I highly recommend this game!!!

    Pretty Disappointed, 21 Apr 2010

GTA has always been my favorite game franchise. Vice City is my favorite game. I was highly anticipating GTA IV. That said, it didn't do it for me.

The graphics and gameplay were great. The story was a bit long and I didn't ever feel a connection to the characters. In fact, most games I get I play through at least twice. I only played this through once because doing it again just seemed overwhelming; too much of a time commitment. Additionally, the game is serious, something GTA was never really known for. The missions and activities weren't really fun, they were just tasks to be done.

I know a lot of people feel the same way as I do. Hopefully Rockstar listens and brings the fun back (and good music for the radio stations).

I Have Had Enough Of Liberty City!, 6 Apr 2010

This makes my 3rd trip to liberty city,GTA3, Liberty City Stories & Now GTA4, not including GTA on GBA, GTA on PS one. I GET IT, I may be biased being a CA native but I could care less about New York. Why not switch up the scenery with Philly? Same-ish accent and different scenery. Overall this game is pretty fun, the multiplayer is surprisingly FUN. The story and graphics are awesome, I am just SICK TO DEATH of Liberty City. Also I was a little surprised to notice this game lacked some of the depth that San Andreas had with the gambling, safe houses, vehicle mods, lack of airfield, less boats, no skydiving, slower cars & the soundtrack on this GTA doesn't hold a candle to San Andreas. The story line is still typical GTA flair, there were a few times I laughed very hard and groaned in discomfort but it was a fun ride. If you don't own it buy it, especially with it being around $20 it is well worth it.

Really fun when you want a diversion from all the stress, 2 Apr 2010

I was not disappointed when I got this game. It is non stop action and even more fun when you add the cheat codes for unlimited ammo and weapons. I suggest playing for a while without the codes first until you start to get a little bored, then try out some codes 1 at a time. the graphics are as good as the last version and sometimes even better.

A review from someone who has played the whole series, 13 Mar 2010

Well, after finishing GTA IV I must say that this is game is almost perfect. The graphics do not compare to previous games of the series and they can be considered one of the best of this new generation. Lightning, shadows, framerate, characters, everything is nicely done, we can see the developers took care of every aspect of the game.

The story is great, the people with whom Niko deal are funny and interesting (typical GTA style) and the plot flows nicely from beginning to the end.

The music is pretty good (vice city selection is better, though)and there are 50+ hours of gameplay just to finish the main story. What else do you want?

People here complain about everything, saying for example that San Andreas had more options, three cities, car customization, some RPG elements, bla, bla, bla. That`s true, but it does not make GTA IV a bad game at all.

I would like this game to have more cities, planes, stunt jumps, bicycles, haircuts, clothes, tanks, etc, but although these things are not present there are so many others that have been added that it is not fair to complain about it.

I am pretty satisfied with the experience I had and hope Rockstar delivers some more GTA for this generation.

Fun game overall but racist and full of political propaganda, 22 Feb 2010

    Where to start off...

The game is a must for GTA fans since this is the first installment of the game on a game console if you don't count DLC from Xbox Live or PSN.

Graphics are good but don't do justice to the power of the PS3 yet it's still fun to play.

The map is huge and can be explored via car, boat, helicopter, subway, on foot, swimming - btw, falling in water doesn't kill you unlike in previous GTA games - you can swim now!

Now, what's my biggest gripe about the game? Say if you're not originally from the West you won't like what some in-game radio stations say about the East, particularly about Eastern Europe and it's people. The message is racist and outraging to see the political propaganda against the East is spreading to video games too.

I can't give this game more stars than this, and with lots of indulgence. This game brainwashes the young generation into thinking the East is filthy, poor and savage while the West is advanced, wealthy... "better".

The "Perfect" Game Ruined, 15 Feb 2010

I keep trying to play GTA IV, the premise of it is so cool. But the game is so damn buggy, the controls are straight TRASH and the only time I ever died is because of the stupidest design flaws I've ever seen in a game. I can't play 2 missions without getting so mad at it I have to turn it off. It's so disappointing to know all the cool things in the game and not even be able to take advantage.

Rockstar didn't even try this time around. I've had the game for a year now and haven't even gotten through maybe 20% of the game. I've lost a ton of respect for the GTA series and Rockstar games in general thanks to this. As far as that Red Dead Redemption coming out? I might download it illegally if I get bored. Why? Because the game looks GREAT. But too bad Rockstar made it, otherwise it might be fun.

If you want the best game ever. But don't want to play, you just want to let it sit on a shelf this the game for you. Because there's no way to can just "get used to the controls" like everyone else say they did. I've gotten used to them, I can work around them to do what I need to do, but that doesn't change the fact that they suck. People also say that the driving is "more realistic" these people have obviously never driven a car before.

I know at this point anyone who was going to buy this game already have and to all of those people, I feel your pain. I think I'd rather go get an Atari 2600 and a copy of E.T. than actually finish this piece of junk.

Probably won't make all fans of the series happy, but screw 'em, 13 Jan 2010

This is probably my favorite game in the series so far. Rockstar trimmed the fat out of it and made something that feels more like the game they wanted GTA3 to be. Sure, there aren't as many things to do (personally, I hated the airplane missions in San Andreas, but some people will miss them). And sure, things are just set up differently. But the more you play, the more you understand why these things changed. The new wanted level system makes it much more difficult to escape anything above a certain level. It feels like the player is being encouraged to actually play the game rather than just go on a rampage. It also places emphasis on car chases rather than finding the nearest Pay and Spray or safehouse. There's still no shortage of things to do, but a lot of the things I could've done without in the earlier games are gone.

One thing that needs emphasis here: if you're the kind of player who just likes to punch old ladies in the head and doesn't actually want to play the game, you will be very disappointed in this incarnation of GTA. It's not so much that the game is humorless and overly realistic, as a lot of reviewers seem to be saying (hell, the game includes cameos by Ricky Gervais and Katt Williams playing themselves - there is no shortage of humor here). It's just that most of the things that made the older games over the top silly aren't here anymore. The game pretty much does everything it can to get you to play it. One thing I've noticed is that when you go a while without playing a mission, all your friends will start calling you to hang out with them until you do play a mission. This isn't a game for the 13-year-olds out there who just want to shoot some pedestrians in the head or blow things up for no good reason. Granted, I realize that's a risky move on Rockstar's part, alienating a good portion of the series' fanbase, but I really don't care about whether those people will enjoy this game.

The controls have also changed a bit. The driving might take a little getting used to, but only because it doesn't feel anything like the older games in the series. Each car has distinct physics, but they all handle well once you get the hang of it. Most of the driving controls are on the trigger buttons now. That had a bit of a learning curve to it, but you'll never be able to go back to using X as your accelerator once you've gotten used to using the analog trigger, which makes it much easier to control your speed, and, therefore, to control your car. Also, the movement feels a lot less clunky now than it has in past games. Also, little details like drivers hanging onto your door, and bigger ones like getting thrown from the vehicle in particularly nasty crashes are pretty cool, too.

Another thing people will notice is the soundtrack isn't quite as saturated with instantly recognizable hits of any particular era. If you actually listen to it, however, you'd know that it's probably the best soundtrack a GTA game has ever had. I could've done without Juliette Lewis (I don't think I actually liked a single song on her station, and given how terrible her band is, it wouldn't surprise me if she was actually involved in picking them), but the funk station alone makes up for it. Iggy Pop works well as a DJ on the rock station. And the talk stations aren't any less competent satire than they were before. I've noticed some reviewers complaining about their political beliefs being mocked, but those people are stupid. Pretty much ALL political beliefs are mocked here, and really, if you can't handle that yours are among them, you probably just need to lighten up. I thought it was all pretty funny. Regardless, you'll either love 'em or hate 'em. Or just not care. And whoever's idea it was to dedicate entire stations to ambient music, electro, and Bob Marley is pretty cool in my book. Lots of good hip-hop, and the station of Eastern European pop music is also a really cool touch that fits the vibe of the game well. I just wish there wasn't so much reggaeton on the soundtrack, but some would probably disagree with me. Just not what I dig. So whatever. It's hard to comment on the quality of a style I just don't like.

The main things I miss are some of the character maintenance aspects of San Andreas. It would've been cool to see a gym and have the effects of working out apparent on the character. And it would've been cool to have bicycles again. As for the huge open world that spans a ridiculous amount of territory, it'd be nice, but it just feels unnecessary in this particular game so it's not a big loss. That said, I haven't had this much fun playing a Grand Theft Auto game since the first time I picked up GTA3. I'm definitely hoping they put out a couple Vice City/San Andreas style games between now and GTA5.

Get Game with hours of fun, 26 Dec 2009

Grand Theft Auto IV adds to the great legacy of Grand Theft Auto games. The expanded gameplay allows the player to do nearly anything they want to do in terms of affecting their environment from throwing stones through window to what you're wearing determining your success on dates and missions. The storyline in very detailed and every mission and a new aspect to the gameplay while not being too repetitious. Gameplay can go on nearly forever even after you complete the storyline which makes the game even more enjoyable. I would recommend this game to anyone who wants a challenge that will take at least of few weeks of steady play (assuming you don't use the cheat codes) to complete but will keep you coming back for more of that well known grand theft auto shoot'em up goodness.

Not being a fan of gta - i played san andreas on xbox and got fed up with the controls - the aiming in particular was really bad so i gave up. I thought i would give it another go with the fourth gta - and it is a improvement on the controls - not bad - got around 60% in, and then it just gets really really really dull - go here, talk to gangsta type (i began skipping the cutscenes as i got really bored with the tedious, non existent storyline) go drive across town (or get a taxi) and kill someone(s) repeat infinity+1 = who cares? this is up on fleabay as we speak.

    It's a good game., 8 Nov 2009

G.T.A. IV, to start off this dialog, I've had all the series, just like everybody else, but I've never really followed it to the end, I've just lost concentration; it became very tedious after a while. A few mission and I never played it again, sold and out the door like a hooker on coke. But G.T.A. IV, is so, so very different, I love it, I'm really hooked, I find myself coming home from work, coming through the door, and just dedicating my hard earned time, to try and complete, run, and fully submerge myself into this game.

No game is perfect, people say some games are, but their not, because you always see something that catches your eye, and think, "Oh, they could of done this better." or "There's a few glitches here and there." Or, the best "Oh, if only I could say this/do it like that/go here." You know I'm right, lets hope I'm wrong when Modern Warfare II comes out... I'm really feeling the hype. But unlike other people, I don't expert a unnatural extent of physical graphic processing, to a Terreflopping, Ramming, Disk Driving, Mother Boarding degree blah blah blah [Any of those doing anything for ya?], then you get everybody round because It looks so realistic and you tell everybody "Look at this, cool, it's so real. look at the drink cans in the game, LOOK AT THE LABELS. THEY LOOK LIKE REAL COKE CANS!" ... Hmmmm?

This game is a five out of five in my opinion, I love the story line, I love the game play, that's all I want in a game. And you would of noticed my use of pre text accumulations of words such as: I'm, & I. that's because I haven't completed it yet, but I do intend to, eventually. If your having second thoughts [like I did], then don't , because for the price it is, it's worth the game ten fold. Cheers.

A bargain price for one of the best games available on any format. Great story, amazing controls and missions, superb characters and great freedom of exploration and activity (although not as much as San Andreas). The graphics though, even on a PS3 hooked up to a 1080p hi-def tv, aren't great. Rockstar, for reasons unknown, have given the game's visuals a slightly blurred, fuzzy effect. Visually its no match for Metal Gear Solid 4 (which has the best graphics of any game currently available), but thanks to great controls, missions and characters its nearly as much fun.

Overrated, but still an enjoyable game, 3 Oct 2009

Grand Theft Auto 4 is quite a good game, however it is overrated and has its downsides. First of all the graphics are fantastic and therefore it is pretty realistic. However due to this realism, the fun factor has gone out of the window. This is the biggest let down as you cannot customise your character greatly as the amount of clothing is limited, there are no tatoos, barbers, garages, wierd + exciting vehicles, weapons etc which can all be found on the previous GTA games. This was a great dissapointment to me when i bought this game, as there was so much hype about it. The storyline is fairly good as you can choose the ending to a few of the missions and therefore effects what happens later in the game. If you get bored of the storyline etc, i highly recommend the online multiplayer as it is brilliant. You can choose from a variety of online modes including; deathmatch, mafia work, car jack city, racing, cops n crooks, turf war, hangmans noose, bomb da base II and free mode. All of which can be played with up to 16 online players and at different locations.

All in all i think that it is a reasonable game but quite disapointing for a Rockstar one, as their games tend to be of high standard.

Good, but not amazing, 9 Sep 2009

Have had this game on both PC and PS3 now and I can say straight away that its much much better on PC than on PS3.

The Graphics are blury and the game has a very low fps at certain points(ie when there are numerous explosions or a number of police cars chasing you)

The PC however has much better graphics with the option of definition which take the blur away. The PC version also lets you adjust the LOD and actualy view distance itself to way more than the PS3 can handle.

Really would recommend this game to anyone, but would tend to say to get it on PC rather than on console.

Even my mid-range laptop can run the game better than the PS3, but on saying that the multiplayer on the PS3 is a lot better.

This is GTA3 with better graphics.

I don't see how this possibly can get 10/10.

Your really limited in this game compared to previous GTA games.

No planes, no tanks, no bmx's etc.

This is a badly made game, lots of freezes and really low frame rates on all platforms.

Its basically a good looking game that has little game play.

All the missions are the same, kill this target are no funny or fun missions like the previous GTA games.

The vehicles handle like a crippled pig and they have tried to be realistic with the vehicle physics but its totally destroyed the fun of GTA which is driving about.

I got this on release, pre-ordered this and it was the biggest let down within the gaming community for me, I will wait next time for gta5 and just download it for pc, no way I will pay for it if it's going to be anything like this.

What a load of boring rubbish !!!, 30 Jul 2009

First of all i enjoyed gta san andreas and liberty city.

Design and graphics are for some reason not really HD and can have glitches.

Controls now feel even heavier and are hard to master.

Driving is impossible and unrealistic, so much drift all over the place.

Shooting is horrible and shoot learn of gears of war.

Oh and what happened to jet packs.

Don't get this game, it's horrible.

Clever but not as entertaining as San Andreas, 16 Jul 2009

I had great hopes for this - in fact it was the launch of this that finally got me to buy a PS3 - San Andreas on the PS2 was so good, how could this not be? Well, technically, it is good - but the gameplay just isn't as fun somehow. The main character isn't as easy to love, perhaps because in GTA San Andreas we could customise his look more. So, it's OK -I was expecting the PS3 / GTA combo to wow me but it didn't. In the final analysis, this review is a bit pointless - you have to play this game at some point if you have PS3 - but it's just not the classic that San Andreas was.

Fun Open World, 14 Jul 2009

I am around 12 hours into this game and, i must say i am throughly enjoying ever moment of it.

i find the missions aren't repetative like recent games of this genre.

The graphics are ok but, sometime too dark for my liking and i end up increasing the brightness which can be a hassel.

    Must Buy, 11 Jul 2009

GTA 4 is a ground braking game

Graphics: Well you must be blind not to see this is one amazin great looking game (to gray/dark for my taste)

Story: It's like a small movie brillant lot's of ups and downs and realistic in some aspects.

Gameplay: GTA was made for the playstation controller, cars need a bit getting used to, but you get the hang of it quite fast. But not everything is good in GTA4...

The idea with the mobile is good, but friends are so anyoing, after nearly every mission some idoit calls and want to do something, as if Roman wouldn't do anything else but ring you and say: Cousin ... (God I hate that sentence ,it drives me up the walls)

FUN: The worst thing is GTA is too realstic (never thought I would say this) but sometimes you just want to blow things up and go crazy like in the old days (Ahh GTA2...)But I still had lot's of fun in GTA4 Physics are Fun, Shooting is Fun. Missons are FUN.

Online: Online is like a 2nd half of the game, it's so big and new and interesting. Never have I played something else on PS3 that stacks up to GTA4's online part.

Overall: It's one of the best PS3 Games out now , buy it,love it and when you complete the singleplayer go online and explore the city with your friends. It's the best game for money for gametime out there. You can play 40-50 Hours without even touching the online part.

    A Must Buy for everyone with a ps3, xbox360 and a pc.

Ps If my english is bad, it's because i'm German xD

GTA IV - not what you expect, 12 Jun 2009

PS3 version of the game is quite a challenge to get used to at first. Especially the driving!! Once you crack it and get used to all the quirky tasks and challenges you have to perform then the game comes into its own. It is no good just dipping in and out once every few days you really have to get immersed in the game. It is not difficult to do this, I found myself on the game for half a day without realising it. Anyway, the characters are good and gameplay is challenging.

    Great game, 25 May 2009

    Great game

good story, soundtrack and online gameplay but the HD graphics look more hazy than i expected, especially compared to titles such as killzone 2.

overall though it's a well polished game that your guaranteed to get lost in and spend many hours on it.

    buy it and enjoy :)

Maybe It's Just Me, But..., 23 May 2009

I'll confess, I'm really not a fan of the GTA franchise in the firstplace, but I thought I should still give this a go to see how things have supposedly developed.

My experiences did nothing to dispell any doubts, the graphics are generally fine but at times grow overly dark and murky. Despite some repeated tinkering, I often finding myself immersed in near complete blackness whenever I ventured into some buildings or shadey streets. The animation is often rather simplistic and it's hard to see how it takes advantage of the capabilities of the PS3.

The voice talent is well used, some might find it stilted, but it feels congruant to the gaming world of GTA.

The driving element was also hampered by a lack of controlling finesse. Turning some corners felt impossible without coming to a near complete stop, and I must confess operating as a taxi service offered me no thrills whatsoever.

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything in this game to keep me interested enough to come back for more, but that's OK, because I have other games to play.

Another Incredible GTA Game, 14 May 2009

Grand Theft Auto 4 is quite a masterpiece of a game in my opinion, the story and the atmosphere that Rockstar have created with Liberty City is very realistic and immersive that it's fun to just free roam around the City for hours.

You can go to the other areas of the City from the beginning but you'll get an instant wanted level like in other GTA games which can still be fun as the police and the evasion system in this game is great fun to play around with.

Niko Bellic is main character in this one, a Serbia'n who has spent the last couple of years in the Merchant Navy and has been getting welcoming letters from his cousin Roman about how he has 'made it big' in Liberty City but when you arrive things are not what you might have expected.

Liberty City as a playground really feels alive with a realistic day and night cycle and great looking weather effects, very detailed vehicle models each with unique damage and crumple physics and a City of a massive scale full of traffic and pedestrians; it's fun to walk past a group of random pedestrians and listen in on their sometimes strange conversations.

The characters and the dialog feel very realistic and full of life not just in the cutscenes, while free roaming you can phone a buddy and arrange an activity(bowling, power boating, strip club etc) and it's great to listen to the conversations Niko has with his buddys.

The multiplayer is another great addition to GTA IV and is activated by your cell phone, here you can create your own character and host or join game modes in seconds; game modes like team deathmatch, team mafia work, race mode and alot of other great game modes are playable as soon as you begin the game.

I have both PS3 and xbox 360 versions the game is that good and they are identical except for the online play because It's a little bit more lively on 360, but on the PS3 it's free so that's a great plus.

I would seriously recommend adding this great game to your collection of games.

You want to go bowling cousin?, 6 May 2009

This game is one of my favourite games on ps3.

Excellent graphics, and the person that complained about damage on a bike being huge, lets see you driving at that speed and not break your spine! Its all part of the realism in the game that you either love or hate. I love it, and its definately worth a go.

I reccommend renting it first, even if its just for a day, to see if you like it.

The only really annoying thing (is the reason i gave it 4 stars for fun) is Roman and your other "friends" keep ringing you up wanting to go bowling or drinking or to play darts. Gets really annoying after a while.

Awesome game..... if you don't care about the story!, 3 May 2009

This game has provided me with some of the most fun I've had on the PS3. First main thing you'll notice about the game is that its graphically excellent, and I'm not so put off by this new realistic approach to GTA. I suppose it allowed me to be more creative in my sadistic pursuits! The story is bog standard, and nothing special (which prevents the game getting 4 stars), its just a simple case of DRIVE THERE!, or KILL THOSE MOFOs! and a mixture of the two. However i feel the story really isnt what GTA is about, Rockstar have made an awesome playground, and combine this with online multiplayer and this game might just be the most fun you'll have on a ps3, especially if you get together a few mates and play some team deathmatches or some races, amongst a plethora of other multiplayer options. Ultimately this game is about the multiplayer, although the single player will provide you with a few days of enjoyment. You would have to be hard to please to get bored of the online aspect in a hurry!
