Too bad its so overhyped as a simulator, cause its not., 27 Apr 2010

Lots of people like to make the claim that its as real as it gets, or that the physics are "spot on" and other absurd claims. Folks, none of the Gran Turismo "games" should be called simulators, they should be called advertisements, but I guess Test Drive name was already taken, so they couldn't call it that. This is the game for people who like the beauty of cars more than they like the sport or realism.

Ok, before I'm hammered by people, I know that prologue is a demo of sorts that's just far too overpriced, its the entire series in general that I'm talking about here. People like to claim that these cars handle like the real world, but its just not true. If it were, then race car teams would be practicing on there Playstations instead of using actual simulations like RFactor and GTR-2. Both of those are found in various forms in full motion simulators found around the world. Chances are, if you paid 5-10 dollars for a chance to drive one of those moving hydraulic racing games at an actual race track, they were powered by the same engine used for RFactor and GTR-2 games (though I have seen some crappy ones that weren't). They are also used by some of the official real race teams, from GT to Formula One, for practice and warming up. Gran Turismo can't even let a car flip over, regardless of what you do, sound realistic now? How many people flipped there cars from mistakes, driving to fast in real life on highways, in the past year alone? Its not that hard to flip a real car, I did it 9yrs ago while racing an amateur touring race. Further, there are loads of real life racing maneuvers that can't be done in any of the Gran Turismo games. Even worse, they want to use the excuse of "licensing issues" for reasons of no damage up to now (and even in the full version of GT5 there will be lots of cars with no damage, and lots without cockpit view, as stated by them). A 60 million dollar budget and we don't even get the OPTION of real racing rules, terrible AI drivers that act like you don't exist, no adjustable seats (don't REAL cars have those?), no dash cam (people don't drive from the back seat..) and a lot of other missing things available for years in other, actual simulations. I'm really getting tired of people acting like its the ultimate in sims when the only thing it has going for it is the car lists. Yes it does have a LOT of cars, which is nice, but when the rest of the game is so lacking, whats the point except for a digital auto-museum?

Lets look at GTR-2, which came out 5+ years ago for comparison. GTR-2 had realistic damage and consequences to mistakes. The temperature of tires, air around/in the tires, and on the road are taken into account. The wear you place on the gearbox from bad shifting matters. The loss of a wing looses downforce and matters. Even the amount of fuel you have left effects the weight and handling. None of that is used in Gran Turismo, and probably never will, yet is important in real racing. These are just a few of the things not simulated in Gran Turismo games even today, but was available for years in other sims from companies less than half the size of polyphony, and in full sim games that can be picked up for less than the cost of the Prologue "demo". I just don't know why it continues to get such a following of people claiming its "so realistic". And before you ring in and claim "they have to balance gameplay with realism", remember, they are claiming there product is a "simulator". It even says it right on the box as part of the tag line. Don't claim you are simulating a sport and leave half the sport out.... which leads me into..

The sport of racing is exciting, the speed, the wrecks, the razor's edge the drivers must walk in order to keep their very expensive and tuned machines (and themselves) alive on the track is thrilling and addictive(as many adrenaline inducing activities can be). The thing that makes all dangerous sports exciting is the DANGER. If it were not dangerous to drive 160+mph, then we'd all be doing it on the freeway without care. Its the danger, that huge chance that the smallest mistake at the wrong moment -could be the last- that gets the adrenaline pumping and the fans on edge of their seats. When you take the danger out, you take a huge part of the excitement out. In Turismo, if I win, I feel like I just learned how to avoid being ran into for a few laps, but in GTR-2 for example: My first full race was an 82 lap race of Silverstone that I came in 8th, but felt far more like an achievement than any of my gold's in Turismo. About 20 laps in, I had a small hit with an opponent cause I tried passing at a bad time, and 3 laps later had to pit cause I had damaged my front left brake, and knocked the same tire out of balance, in the impact, and I could feel it in the handling, and force feedback. It cost me a good bit of time since I had to pit and get it fixed to drive accurately again, but I needed new tires anyway so it only added a little more time. Thats what a simulation of the SPORT should be! GTR-2 even had night and day cycles, and changing weather, while you drove! Plus, the argument that it would be boring or not sell well enough is absurd also. Millions tune in just to watch real racing events, and more than enough people buy hardcore sims like the ones I mentioned to keep those companies alive and still making officially licensed racing games (GTR-3 is in the works, and I can't wait).

Seriously, how angry would most people be if they bought a product claiming to be a simulation of football or basketball, only to load up NBA Jam or NFL Blitz??? Sure, they are general representations of the sport, but nowhere near a simulation of them. If Turismo didn't claim to be a simulation, I'd loose a lot of my beef with them on those grounds alone, as I simply hate misleading advertising, and even worse, the people brainwashed by them. If GT5 actually ends up including decent damage modeling, and realistic race rules at least as an option for those who want it, I'll be glad to pick it up. Seriously, how hard is it to just make it an option if much smaller companies can do these things with less than a 20th of the budget and for a lesser asking price?

In conclusion to this long (sorry bout that) review, only get Gran Turismo if your looking for exactly what it has to offer. If you want an actual simulation of the sport called Racing, try one of these- RFactor, GTR-2, Live for Speed, I-Racing(expensive), or one of my favorites, Richard Burns Rally. RFactor, GTR-2, and Richard Burns Rally all have huge amounts of FREE content to download, and huge followings that still play online every day, and all 3 are over 4yrs old. When people are still playing and loving the same sim years later, regularly, you know its solid, but when you can even race full seasons and win THOUSANDS of dollars in REAL money([...]), you know its hardcore!

A Must by for GT fanatics, 14 Apr 2010

No doubt, if you're a car fanatic like myself, a Gran Turismo fan to say the least, then you'll love the experience this game offers. Throughout the years, i've played Gran Turismo from it's diaper era. Now despite Pro Logue has many limitations in terms of the small array of cars and tracks, it's a great learning experience and practise for when the full version is released sometime this year... I hope.

Just when you thought GT4 was a great update, which it is by the way, then GT5 is probably the closest thing to actual driving, cuz the driving physics is almost spot on, the cars are more sensitive to your output, and it's damn good.

P.s. If you can master the Ferrari 599 on Professional driving physics, you're a boss, trust me

    AWESOME, 27 Mar 2010

I did not even buy this game for me. I purchased it for my grandkids. Had to play it to learn so I could show them how and I got hooked. The more you win, the more money you make and you can buy the most awesome cars. Takes a little while but worth it.

Dont Belive The Hype, 27 Mar 2010

Okay so this game is touted as the real driving simulator,Yet when I play most of the driving and cars seem unreal in the movements they make you cant flip the car or do a doughnut but almost all the cars spin out I use a g27 and the only thing the game seems to focus on is throttle control. Ive argued with countless people claiming these physics were real but yet for the gt demo and the full gt5 these physics were scraped nothing to real here compared to a sim this is arcade hell it even looks like an arcade game plus its boring no wonder Ive never been a part of the gt bandwagon ill just play lfs where i can do doughnuts burnouts brakestands clutch failure etc..... Dont buy if your looking for realism maybe the full gt5 wont be like this no matter how preety or how many cars they have if the cars handle like this ill be pissed

Simply a slightly extended demo - Charging $$$ for this is unacceptable, 21 Mar 2010

First things first, I understand that this is simply a prologue and not a full game.

With that out of the way, I do not understand how they can consider charging anything close to half price for this game. This prologue looks very nice, but the track selection is VERY LIMITED, car selection is VERY LIMITED, and user features are VERY LIMITED. This is about 1/10 of a full racing game, but it comes at 1/2 price - Not worth it.

After playing Forza 3 and seeing what a full game should be (400+ cars, 100 tracks, full car customization) it makes me realize that this is not a prologue - this is simply a glorified demo that would be well worth $5 and not a penny more. It showcases an extremely limited car and track selection with no customization of cars.

The tracks and cars that are available in this "prologue" are very nice, and they do a good job setting us all up for the full version. Do yourself a favor and just wait for that full version to come out, because this is not worth paying for.

too complicated and confusing, 8 Mar 2010

It is not the best game in the world, because you get Class S which is so hard, it takes ages just to do it and when we finally completed that, I was hoping for the Ferrari F2007 (F1 Car.) to be our prize but you get this GT-R which is good, but it says you get the super licence to buy the F1 car and then you go to the dealerships for it is to say that you can't buy it and you must be stupid just to play this game until you get 2 million in which you need to buy the car. It's just not good enough, and you have to waste all your money just to buy any car on it.

On the brighter side, the graphics are top-notch and the replays you can watch of races is spectacular. You can do Top Gear Power Laps if you had more vehicles.

    Prologue disappointment, 10 Feb 2010

Money spent on Prologue was wasted as the game is very limited and is not much more than an extended demo as you are unable to upgrade or even purchase some of the better cars.

    Gran Turismo 5 get's an A-, 7 Feb 2010

    Pro:

    Excellent Graphics

    I like the jazz music.

    Con:

You always have to start from last position. Why can't you do a trial run to see which pole position you would start in.

You have to select a certain make car to enter the race. After you do that and start the race, there are other makes of cars racing against you. That's not fair.

It's take forever for the winning dollar totals to add up when adding them to your winning account. You can show great graphics, but to add two numbers take an eternity.

When I won the races and unlock the extra cars, they were added to the end of list of car manufactures. Why aren't they added in alphabetical order? I didn't even know they existed for the longest time.

    Brilliant, 3 Feb 2010

For any fan of the GT series, this is an absolute must buy, and will tide you over until GT5 is finally released! Graphice, gameplay and sound effects are all brilliant. Variety is somewhat limited (but only when compared with previous 'full fat' versions of GT. There is plenty of content here to keep you entertained for a long time, although there are points when it can get a little repetitive (like, when you are trying to save up to buy the next exotic car), otherwise it is a brilliant driving game, and a worthy addition to the games library of any driving game fan.

    Great game, 2 Feb 2010

The greatest are the graphics and realism. The introduction video is awesome indeed.

I would have liked the "car damage" feature included as in others racing games but I think this is something desired to make GT 5 more real but not really needed, IMO

Newbie to GT thinks it is overrated, 25 Jan 2010

I have played at a friends house before, but this is the first time I have actually owned and played a GT title more than one or two times. The graphics are wonderful but everything else about this game leaves much to be desired.

    1) Penalties - They are completely inconsistent. If you run off a little too much on the inside while taking a turn, you get a 5 second penalty. Yet while playing online on Suzuka, I notice others driving off in turn two, going way off the track and coming on the track in turn 4 way ahead of me, and they receive no penalty. Also, if you slide in the wall and your front hits first...no penalty....but if your side or rear hits first you can (unrealistically) use the wall to go artificially fast in the turns and receive no penalty. Also, I was at the high speed track and someone inside of me crashed and as they slid up in front of me sideways, of course I hit them....but I got the penalty.

    2) Physics (off road) - I have heard GT5 tries to model everything to be accurate as possible to real life. This is the most unrealistic driving game I have ever played. Like I mentioned above, in Suzuka people are able to drive off in the sand at high speed and maintain that speed all the way through from turn 2 to turn 4. Try that in real life and you would likely get stuck in the sand. The GT5 demo time trial is much more realistic in that sense so hopefully the full game will be improved.

    3) Drifting - this silly "sport" of drifting has ruined driving video games. Anyone with half of a brain cell knows that drifting is NOT the fastest way around a turn at Suzuka or a high speed oval. Ever see a Nascar or F1 guy drift around a turn? Yet while playing online I see that all of the fast guys are drifting around the turns and that is by far seems to be the fastest way around a turn. I assume this is all because the 15 year old nerds that are the main audience think drifting is cool so they made it the fastest way around.

    4) online play - I read way back in 3/08 that this game was going to add private online racing as an option through an update, but that has yet to happen. I hope the full game has this ability.

created by a Swiss driving instructor, 20 Jan 2010

This game has really nice graphics, too true to life physics and beautiful mood music.

Other than that it's not much fun to play.. it's so unforgiving, it's made like a Rolex

with attention to the slightest detail, and in the end it fails to be a gameE, and is more

like some Swiss driving school in Singapore.. Buy a used copy and it might not be so much

of a disappointment if you are used to the Need for Speed style games.

I'm sure some people will think I'm a poor driver that can't hack it.. but I paid for a

fun game that I will want to, and be able to, play over and over.. Turismo 5 is not that.

1080p means I can play it without getting a headache!, 7 Jan 2010

I love playing GT4 with my daughter, but after awhile I just couldn't take it. My eyes just don't have the strength in them to stare at a screen for hours on end. This one, however, is different! I can do it! The high resolution graphics make all the difference. The game itself is just as good as before, though this preview version doesn't have near as many venues or vehicles.

    Almost speechless..., 14 Dec 2009

Amost speechless but not quite. This game is AWESOME!! I've played Gran Turismo for years, all of the previous 4 games and this one is by far the greatest! The detail, right down to the stitching on the drivers gloves in POV-view and the shadows shift as you drive the track on a sunny day!! Are you kidding me?!? The cars are awesome - though I do miss some of my old favorites... The series you have to run to get cars unlocked are challenging enough and the tracks are all very realistic. The most real to life driving game ever! Except that the cars don't get mashed when you hit something, I agree with the game designers when they want to sustain the beauty of the cars throughout the game. I can't wait for the whole game GT5 to come out, of course we've been waiting for it for 2 years, so until then I will keep playing this and loving every minute! The Driving Force Wheel for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 is worth the investment at the least, there are even better driving wheels out there to complete the experience.

If this is prologue, imagine the full GT5..., 8 Dec 2009

Most people say the game is very short and with very few features. Truth is, this game is the best racing game for the PS3. It's perfection lies on the details. Yeah, few tracks, not many cars, but you'll be amazed with the quality of the track models and the images of the cars. You can see details on every bill-board, and can see the seat belts from the rear seats on the cockpit view. You can even adjust the car's TC, ABS, TCS, Torque distribution for the 4WD...WHILE RACING!!! Yes, while you are on the move you can adjust it with your wheel/controller if you have buttons adjusted for it.

It has things that GT4 didn't had, and many others game try but aren't able to do it well.

    Pros:

Picture quality, with a stantard tv. Outstanding quality with HDTV TV's.

    Realism and feel.

    Great attention to detail.

Relaxing menu music and overall design.

Very good compatibility with G27 wheel.

    Cons:

    Few tracks and cars.

Can be frustrating to casual drivers and not-so-advanced ones.

Normal televisions dont use it to it's great potential.

Get this with a G27 and you wont regret it, it's awesome.

read this review first!, 4 Dec 2009

okay.. these guys below me are irritating. gt5 prologue is a preview of gt5, obviously, and does not include all the options and stuff the real game will. there is no damage, understandable. some races are impossible to beat, which just makes me pissed. even though the AI always cause a penalty, this might be different on gt5. all these things might be changed. the new gt5 will have real life like damage. crashes and spin outs will affect the engine, handling, performance and so on. there will be a difficulty level, most likely expert, with the option to turn performance points on or off, letting you utilize everything the car can do. there will be over 1000+ cars and 70 tracks (35 original + 35 reverse). the cars will not run on a line in gt5 so you will be able to run your own line without interference. you will also be able to buy engine parts and tires, paint the car, etc. the graphics are incredible! the picture is truely 1080p, which no other game can compare to. every car and track is nearly perfect to the smallest details, even the interior is exact. the physics are also real to life. as of the internet, a good connection would be useful. starting the game does not take 30 minutes like one guy said. i threw the game in and it took 10 minutes to download the software and about 2 minutes to install the game. i have a wired connection now, but i installed the game with a 55% wireless connection without a problem. the online does tend to jump around a little, but it was the same for mx vs atv untamed so i take it this is just a thing with racing games. $60 million has been invested in the development of gt5, so dont get your hopes up about the damage, number of tracks, car options, or any of the small stuff. they will also have updates for other cars, tracks, and so on after the game comes out, March 31, 2010 in the U.S. there are hundreds, maybe thousands of additional cars available to download after they have been created. this includes cars like your dodge neon and your gmc blazer. i would highly recommend this game to any gran turismo fan or gamer who wants a look of whats to come of GT5. it does not have all options and accessories yet, but it gives you a good perspective. BEST PART... you get the option to transfer all accomplishments you have made in Prologue onto GT5 when you install the game. if your not small minded and want to get a good racing game, polyphony digital does the job, trust me.

    Best-spent replay value ever, 2 Dec 2009

When I first bought this game it seemed kinda small and I didn't really like the AI. I have played every Gran Turismo since GT1 and find the AI is not compelling.

That said, when I had GT4 for the ps2, I didn't mind the weird AI as the game was so rich, had so many cars, so many things I could do.

Still I always wished I could set up a race with the AI: me driving a 1967 Datsun amidst other cars from the 60's, muscle and otherwise.

That would have made a bountiful replay. I tried to write to Polyphony, but... how do you get a voice, in these things?

This may be a negative, but where the game really shines is online.

Luckily, every ps3 comes with built-in wireless or corded internet. And, unlike the xbox 360 by Microsoft, it's all totally free.

Now I have a wireless connection with the ps3 which I pay my neighbor (landlord-- I rent a converted garage) $20/month for (cancelled my $45 subscription to wired).

Originally, I would unplug the cable from my computer and plug it into the ps3, to get online.

The early races were atrocious, weird people from US (I'm from US) shoving me off the sides, winning by sheer cowardice.

But Polyphony reviewed this and implemented a number of changes.

Now, online is so fun that all I do is race online. I can't be bothered to complete the A class, because online pays better and it's so much funner to race against humans, even bad ones-- and the AI takes care of cheaters pretty good.

    Not totally.

But the cool thing about this game, you buy this car, and you take it on a few laps on a particular course, to see how it feels. And you can hear it, you can feel it's limits when you accelerate and corner, you can put yourself in the driver's seat of any car and see how the window tinting is different, how the sound is different, how driving inside the car is different than driving on the bumper, or behind the car, and you really can feel the physics of this thing, especially on that Alps circuit, where you have the best sense of gravity and centrifugal force, on some of those tight turns, that I've ever experienced in any driving simulation.

And when you're approaching someone, and you hear their engine revving, slowing down, their tires screeching, as you attempt to slip by them, on that particular turn... this game is the closest thing to videogame zen I've found since the early 90's when I played the early driving simulators, and you thought to yourself, "Holy crap these physics are so real I'm scared at every corner."

Not for the weak of heart. Your blood will get pumping. But I stress again that online is the crucial value here, driving against other humans, where it's no longer about winning or losing-- it's about you and your machine, making a grade, whether you're 5 out of 7 or 1 out of 10.

Yes, you will find cheaters, but the satisfaction of driving a race cleanly feels more real than any win in an arcade environment with artificial intelligence.

And of course, any ps3 comes built-in with wireless and cable compatibility, so if you have an internet connection, whatever it is, you can play online.

    For free.

Stunning Graphics, Great Race Game, But missing some stuff, 18 Nov 2009

Let's keep in mind this is only a preview game and that's why it's half what the full version will run when it's released. The short review on this one is; I will buy Gran Turismo 5 when it comes out and if you are looking for a pretty decent driving game for the PS3, considering the price this is a good buy. As expected of Polyphony, the graphics and the game play is excellent. However, this is still the prologue so there is not much to do after the events are cleared. You can do time trials and play online, but online does not have as much players now so it may take several tries before having a race. Superb preview of GT5, 4 Oct 2009

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is excellent.

I have always been a fan of the series but this really does take the biscuit the graphics are stunning and the motion is incredibly fluid it easy to appreciate the 60 frames per second. The cockpit view is a very welcome addition and as well as increasing the immersion of the game it also provides a greater sense of speed whilst driving and being able to peek out your side windows as you pass an opponent is just a damn cool.

Since purchasing the game I have also got the steering wheel to match which is also very impressive and once you get used to it, it becomes hard to imagine playing a racing game without it.

As mentioned in other reviews there are only 6 tracks each with two variations but its a good mix and although they are few in number you'll find yourself getting addicted to trying to master your racing line for each in different classes of vehicle. One track that I would have really liked to play though which isn't included is my all time GT favourite 'Trial Mountain' but I guess I'll just have to wait for the final game.

Despite there only being about 30 main races to clear split into 3 classes it doesn't feel like a short game because the gameplay is so spot on it's really a joy not a labour to play them again and again trying to better your driving skills.

The online is ok but a bit limited in scope, you choose from one of a series of events and then are matched against other players with similar level cars- it would be nicer if there was more flexibility so you could set your own custom events and it does take a considerable amount of time getting you into a race which breaks up the pace of the online because you'll be waiting the equivalent of a couple of laps on the high speed ring to get into the next event you choose.

In terms of value I really don't understand why people liken it to paying for a jumped up demo disc, when there are many many hours of enjoyment to be had from it and it only costs like 15 quid in the first place- I would argue quite the opposite that you get a lot for your money just for the sheer amount of time you will end up sinking into it.

If you like racing sims and own a PS3 this is a must buy and if your serious about getting the most fun out of it the steering wheel is too.

I give it 4/5 overall just because its a big tease and makes me want see what the final version will be like.

not as good as the last gturismo, 27 Aug 2009

only 1 player unless you go online so ive heard. not tried even tho there is a menu for 2 players but that must be online? menus are still slow music boring but graphics are great. you can tune your car but i prefered the old method where you can add turbos etc. this game can be either very easy or impossible! there is new rules on certain tracks where you can only tune your car so much, which i dont remember being on the last game where you get penilized for ramming or taking short cuts. this makes it hard enough without obviously starting last, getting penilized for them ramming you. but they dont get penilized for taking short cuts etc. also if you come off the track with bad driving (so i've heard) when you getting back on it says youve taken a short cut. that was the last straw. just hope the proper version is better cuz i thought gt was the best driving game out there untill now. wait for the new one which is out soon

    GT5, 26 Jul 2009

Most people have written the exact comments that i would but i would like to add that this (half or full game) is the best racing game or even best game in the world. GRID may rival it but it won't beat it. Gran Turismo has and always will be the best racing game ever, not even racing games from the xBox can beat it although xBox people say they do but what do they know? They bought an xBox which proves they dont know much :P

Fantastic Preview of What's To Come, 15 Jul 2009

I think it's unfair to judge this game as a full game. This is more like an extended demo or a taster version.

So the first thing that hits you is how amazing the graphics are. I've never seen a game rendered so beautifully. The only criticism I have of them is the jaggies. The textures are very detailed and the models are very smooth due to the high amount of polygons. Also the game is rendered in a glorious 1920x1080 (1080p) HD resolution. But the one thing that make this look really impressive is the reflections.

Secondly, I'd like to comment on the game physics. This is most probably an even bigger improvement than the gfx over GT4. Even just playing the game with a controller you can feel how much more realistic the cars response is. Drifting is now very realistic thanks to the game having a professional handling setting.

There is very few tracks but the one's that are included are truly amazing and really show off the game's and PS3's capabilities. You could even find yourself looking at the background rather than the cars in front on the Eiger Nordwand and London track and certainly the on the replays for High Speed Ring.

New to GT5P is the ability to have 16 cars in a race and also an in car view. Both of these are huge improvements and address some of the problems I had with GT4. This is really starting to feel like the ultimate sim!

One thing that impressed me was the attention to detail. Even the tiniest one's. Such as when the rear tyre hits a painted line on a corner the car loses grip or when driving the Lancia Delta the way the clock if fully functional on the dash.

The game isn't perfect but GT5 appears to address what other issues I have such as more cars, tracks, damage and weather.

I can't wait till my Logitech Driving Force Pro comes in the post. If your serious about this game I suggest you get one. They're only £35 atm on Amazon.

top class game, 15 Jun 2009

I have to admit that I do have the full kit at home when racing with the gt5..including the playseat+pedals+clutch+gearshifter+matt+46" ultra slim samsung lcd tv which makes this game simply awesome in full HD mode.

The Logitech g25 steering wheel with gear shifter delivers the GT5 prologue to its limits of brilliance.

I love this game and love the way I just kick serious butt online with other gamers who try to challenge me.

buy this awesome game and get online with ps3 and lets have some serious outrageous fun.

Gran Turismo lives up to it's name and this is just the Prologue!, 12 May 2009

I bought this game along with the PS3 because I've always been a huge GT fan. I popped this game in the slot, fired it up, bough my first car (A 2005 VW Golf I think) and began working on the Class C races. Instantly I could tell GT had done something astounding with this.

The car physics are...well they're perfect.

The graphics are stunning...on the cars. The tracks still need some work, well, not the tracks as such but the scenery surrounding them. Also the crowd need some work done, just to make them more lively.

I have now pretty much completed this game, owning almost all of the cars including the illusive F2007 - The Ferrari F1 car from 2007. This car, and this alone is worth going through the rest of the game for to unlock it. When i first stepped in this car and took it for it's first run around susuka circuit (bearing in mind I did fly off the track a lot of times) it physically took my breath away. It's a dream to drive.

Even though this is a prologue it's 100% worth getting.

Proof that graphics really isn't everything!, 27 Apr 2009

I bought this game hoping that i would love it, however as a GAME it never really delivered, in fact it was rather dull. Personally, I found racing the cars extremely boring, there's no sense of speed that you get with other games such as GRID or CM DIRT. I also found the lack of damage prevented me from being immersed in the race, and the way the cars bounce off the barriers.... not quite THE racing sim. Sure it does have nice visuals, and it has some of the best graphics the playstation 3 currently has to offer, however if you dig a little deeper, you'll find a stunted embryo of a game. If you are indeed a person who craves reality than go for it, you might appreciate what it has to offer, however I and many others just wanna play a game and have FUN, i feel that you'll be better suited getting a game like GRID rather than this!

    great release, 28 Mar 2009

I think this is one of the best racing games around and i can't wait 'till the full version comes out. In this prologue you can buy over 70 cars including audi R8 and Aston Martin DB9. Race these either online with up to 16 players or on 6 stunning tracks. It is quite a hard game especially with the driving wheel but if you want a fantastic, realistic racing game get this.

    Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, 11 Jan 2009

This is an amazing game when you first get it. But when you read the name 'Prologue' you think: "Well, it's going to be like one of those rubbish demos." But it isn't.

There is a wide choice of cars from the cheap Golf GTI for starting to the rapid ferraris and the Ford GT. The graphics are the best I've ever seen. This is probably because I've been used to the PS2 graphics. So it all seems amazing. But there are some problems. For a start there are only 6 tracks. Secondly there aren't any options for upgrading your car. And if you do want a tuned car, you have to by it all tuned for you.

So, overall, it's a very good game and well worth the money. If you like track racing and don't mind only having six tracks with only one street track, this is the game for you. I just hope the full version will be better.

What a great game for the beginner and Internediate, 4 Jan 2009

Never had a racing game before but after reading the reviews on Amazon with a selection of other games I went for this and haven't looked back. Easy to play and I have even won a few races which breeds confidence. I have managed to get rid of my intitial car and now have a cool sports car. Great fun and I am sure I can now tackle the other more difficult game. My view if you want to try a racing game - this is a great one to start with.

If graphics is enough for you, 19 Dec 2008

This game has really amazing graphics, however, in my opinion, it is not worth buying. There is no sense of speed making it a really boring game comparing to games like Need For Speed, Motorstorm, etc. The game came included with my PS3, but since I got the other racing games, I have never picked it up again. If you want a race game which gets your adrenaline going, don't buy Gran Turismo.

    Zzzzzzzzzzzz, 10 Dec 2008

Just woken up after playing this dreadfully dull game. What can I say. You'll have played all the tracks in a very short space of time, but wait, you can then race on the same tracks going the other way, whooo.

And if you think that's exciting, wait till you race round an oval track. That's right, you can keep your finger on the accelerator the whole way round and tap the left button occasionally! And then the right button when you race on it the other way round. YES!

Oh yeah, the graphics are amazing though.

Good, but not 5 star, 16 Oct 2008

I got this game with my PS3 40GB, and I thought it was astonishing. The graphics were really good, the cars were fast(after you unlocked them), the tracks were numerous, good looking, and fun. It was a big jump from my PS2 Pro Street. However; after a while, the cars started to look a bit plasticky, and when the cars crashed into a wall or another car, they didn't break, but stayed exactly the same. I thought this for thirty pounds was good, but I thought that the PS3 had more potential. I tried a few other racing games, such as Race Driver Grid, and they were awesome. The graphics looked better, and more realistic in Grid, and really crashed when I crashed. This game is now reduced to £18 pounds, but if you're looking for a really good car racing game for your PS3, get Grid, or wait for Midnight Club:Los Angeles to come out. All I gotta say is that this game is good for 18 quid, but it has more potential.

    Hoped this helped.

A good sign of whats to come,, 13 Oct 2008

Grand Turismo 5 Prologue is a fantastic game, there is a large range of cars compared to most racing games (about 70 or so) and the best graphics i have ever seen in a racing game. The gameplay is also brilliant, car handling is hugely acurate, not the kind of game where you can constantly push everything to the max and still stick right in the middle of the track, but its certainly not gone too far, if makes you careful as you cruise around tracks, and makes sure you dont rush round ever corner sliding into walls. thers a real sence of acheivement when you finaly gain enough credits to get that new car too, and with the ferrari F2007 and the Citroen GT in there already thats a lot of saving to do.

the game is constantly updated in order to bring you extra content, and has so far added a huge amount including: split-screen, GT-TV, and fantastic extra cars. the next update is rumored to include an optional damage setting for vehicals, which will no doubt be incredible.

For £18 a cannot recomend GT5:P more, it will keep you entertained for a long time, and then when you've forgotten updates will drag you back in. i got this game soon after it came out and got fed up with it after a shot while but due to more updates i have got back into it and enjoy it very much. However i can say that some of the difficulty is quite extreme, with some standout hard challenges which require specific cars.

overall i would recomend this game to anybody with a PS3 who enjoys good racing games, its not exactly a huge spend and it well worth your time of day. If needs be you can even download it straight to your console, if you've got the hard drive space!

    A Work in Progress, 8 Oct 2008

Gran Turismo 5 is certainly a well made game, but there are still a lot of features that need improving. In particular, anyone who has raced online will know that the collision rules need changing. The driver who rams another car off the track gets no time penalty, while the injured party does! Perhaps, if the cars were designed to be wreckable, the extra care and attention would make this more realistic, as well as enjoyable.

    Great!, 3 Oct 2008

If it wasn't for the games astonishing realism and pure gameplay, i would probably already give this 5 stars just for graphics! A number of times while playing this game, a member of the family has said, 'which race you watching?' before noticing the control pad!

There is no better value for money out there in the console world at the moment, a highly reccommend!!

    Big smelly pants.

Realism has robbed this game of fun. Perhaps it's more of a game when you level it up to the supercars. But I'll never find out: I couldn't race titchy hatchbacks round the same five boring tracks without wanting to cry.

VERY VERY DISAPOINTED!, 19 Sep 2008

I've always been a fan of the GT series. I bought my PS3, waiting for the new GT. While waiting, i played games like Need For Speed (Carbon/Pro Street), DIRT and lately GRID. GT5 Prologue is amazingly boring and dull compared to those games. The driving, the handling, the fun, the excitement of the race, the damages, the real A.I., nothing's there. It's like they did not use any of the possibilities offered by the PS3 platform, except for the graphics. Maybe they will improve the real GT5, but so far, GRID is the ultimate racing game for me.

    Very OK, 30 Aug 2008

First off I have to say I can not really find much to fault with the game. The graphics look great, the cars are realistic enough, the courses fine. Everything about the game is OK, it just lacks that spark, that special something that makes you want to keep returning to the game. If you like driving games you will like this but lets hope there are some better ones out there.

I haven't tried the online game yet, maybe I will later (or maybe I wont).

Great Graphics, Lacking in Depth, 15 Aug 2008

The last time I played Gran Turismo was on the PS1. I have been blown away by the graphics and general presentation of the new version (especially through HDMI cables on a 42" plasma).

However, the game seems a bit shallow. In the PS1 version there were rally stages, dirt tyres, night stages and loads more tracks and car adjustments. This version just seems to be 5 or 6 tracks (and variations of those tracks).

I'm just a bit disappointed... but it looks great.
