the story mode is excellent, very real, i mean, very real, theres no HUD to block out your view of the beautiful landscape for example. the weapon degradation model, the fire model is very accurate in my opiniion and so is the rendering etc.
i was quite touched by the moral issues in the storyline too. the way it explored human nature throught the battling factions and the innocent people who get caught in between (and you are one of them).
the online mode in comparision is not as quality as this but its still ok. my only gripe is how long it takes to join and start a game which is very long and unpredictable compared to COD for example and i play COD a lot so i do know what i'm talking about.
overall its a great game, buy it for the story mode.

This game is nothing like the original farcry, which is a shame cause that was a good game.. this game only has good graphics, the gameplay is immensely boring and repetitive, nothing ever happens.. you spent 15 minutes at a time (really) driving around looking for missions, and once you find one you have to repeat the long journey.. and enemies pop out from nowhere, endlessly respawning, which gets quite annoying. This game simply takes too much time and effort, and if you give this time and effort you get nothing in return.
The online game is HORRIBLE, it takes about 20 minutes to find a game, when you finally find one, the maps tend to be horrible, and the game tends to stop in the middle of rounds... again, time consuming and no rewards.. this game is so bad that i would gladly give it away, because making people pay for it is just plain mean...

This game is great, admitedly I love Africa and the game feels very real to me.
I can understand the frustrations of having to drive from point A to point B BUT you can remove a huge junk of frustration by getting the bus. You get on the bus and voila, you are transfered to a bus depot on the other side of the map. Nick a car at the bus stop and off you go. Before I discovered the bus I got a bit frustarated (but I loved the scenary etc).
If you try getting the bus and still don't like it then fair enough, I guess it isn't for everybody, but I enjoyed it as much as COD4. In fact, probably a tiny bit more, as a bit more stealth is involved.
I especially enjoyed "bagging" a Springbok from 500yards.

Quite simply Far Cry 2 is an awesome game, one of the best fps games for a long time, a very similar gaming experience to GTA although with more possible approaches to playing, and for anyone who enjoyed Black on the PS2 this is a must have. like many other reviewers i wouldnt compare this to COD as its much less linear, with COD you can pick it up and get a good feel for the game very quickly, but here some time and patience is required to discover your own method of playing. Patience is rewarded with a game that is impressive and highly immersive.
The world of Far Cry 2 is stunning, a huge variety of tropical landscapes which are hugely enjoyable, and highly realistic, from creeping through steaming jungles teeming with insects in a tropical rainstorm, to driving a jeep through endless deserts and savana dodging the herds of zebra its very easy to lose yourself in the game.
The actual game-play is a little frustrating initially and getting your gunsights on an enemy and emptying a magazine may not take him down, but things do improve, regular visits to the gunshops early in the game are a must as is learning to use fire tactically, personally i found the silent route a little frustrating as even when armed with a silenced MP5 it doesn't take the enemy long to realize you are nearby.
The enemy AI is indeed challenging, but this is no bad thing, enemies will try and outflank you, and sometimes climb to a vantage point to try and pick you off from a distance, wounding enemies can produce some interesting results, from a comrade running out of cover to try and assist them, to them crawling or hobbling off to cover.
All the characters in the game are superbly detailed, its impressive to see such evil stares and non verbal threats.
A very very good game, a huge and richly detailed world and an enormous variety of ways to play through the story. being a malaria ridden heartless mercenary caught up in an african civil war has never been so much fun.

Although I am a passionate Call of Duty man I found this game to be quite engrossing often to the point where it became borderline habitual. I loved the fact that..yes that mountain over in the distance was obtainable and yes, when I got there I could climb it!
The scenery is absolutely stunning and I often found myself drifting lazily down a sublime, snaking river, the soft drumming of a four stoke engine sleepily humming behind me, the sound of zebra and antelope cantering in the fields adjacent and then quite suddenly being rudely awoken from my dozing by the heavy thump and whining crack of shell fire.
As an ex serviceman and sniper I thoroughly enjoyed tactically moving myself into dangerous areas, spending time watching and waiting and then scoping my intended kills so I could slot my targets in quick succession. (Pleased so far with dropping fourteen targets with fourteen rounds, twelve head shots and two body shots).
Far Cry 2 for me, apart from being tactically brilliant, seems to have just about everything you could want in this type of game, my only wish is that the next Call of Duty could be programmed on this type of vast, sprawling gaming area. Imagine gearing up, shipping out and then being ambushed before you even get there? Yeah you could run away! Run for miles if you wanted. Or you could drop down, work out a counter strike and move in for a kill that has no boundaries.

There are plenty of reviews out there that already give a good overview, so this will be brief.
I think the disappointment with this game is that it has the potential to be so good. The graphics are excellent and basic storyline is fine. I like games that have an open environment you can explore and the realism of guns deteriorating adds to the overall experience.
I really loved the game until I encountered my first bug. I was rescuing a new buddy (my last having disappeared), and having rescued him, the game wouldn't move on. My "buddy" just stood in the room I had released him from waiting for some personal invite from the Queen I think.
Going back to my last save point didn't work, i had to go back to a save point before my previous buddy got lost, a good 2 hours of gameplay to repeat. This is where going through all the checkpoints with the respawning guards became tortuous, so I gave up.
Eliminating the bugs would make this a good game. Some alternative ways of negotiating the checkpoints (e.g. bribing/ going over hills to avoid completely)and a litle bit more realism (people who don't try and shoot you on sight and some indiginous wild anaimals to negotiate) would make this a great game.

Having seen the trailer on the PS store I thought to myself I've got to have this game, it really does look great and having read some of the reviews and seen that the multiplayer has been compared to COD4, I ordered it straight away.
Sadly, after playing for a couple of hours I realised that it's not for me and I've already exchanged it. The one thing the game does have going for it is the amazing environments, a lot of effort has been put in but unfortunately I think that is where some of the problems lie - the developers have got carried away designing the environment that it has been created with detriment to the overall experience of the game. Travelling across the jungle between missions soon became a chore, and the cliffs and walls of bushes didn't really create the open world feel I was expecting.
I found the design of the cut scenes to be poor and I never liked the idea of the buddy system, before long both became quite annoying. As for the comparison to the combat in cod4, well this is all down to personal opinion but I just don't see it. The few environments I played seemed rather dull and unrealistic and the movement and interaction just doesn't seem to have the fluidity that it should. In my humble opinion what the game needed was for someone to take a step back and ask the developers to calm down with the environment and spend more time on the engine, then we might have had a monster on our hands.

...because I've just spent half an hour driving across a huge map to get to the mission location, only to be ran over by a truck driven by the bad guys that appeared out of nowhere as soon as I dared to get out of my jeep.
What I have just described is a common occurence in this game. I feel that the game developers looked up the meaning of the word 'FRUSTRATION' and tried their best to encorporate everything that the word stands for into this game. Correct me if I'm wrong but I always assumed that games should be fun. How is having malaria, a potentially fatal disease, any fun? Your character is stricken with malaria right from the get go. Sure, you have medication to take when you have a sudden 'malaria attack' in the middle of a gunfight but you are being shot at from every angle and to take it your character lowers his weapon. Cue collapsing and dying. Load last save and drive half an hour across the map and do everything all over again. Cue collapsing and dying. Load last save and drive... See where I am going with this? Ok, I know this game is about deploying tactics etc but the game just isn't any fun. If you enjoy this game then that's fine. Personally, I hate it right to the very core. Okay, I don't mind the guns jamming, it's just another factor in combat, and I don't mind having to deal with my character's complete inability for a large part of the beginning of the game to shoot a bloody gun straight. But I mind cheap deaths, particularly in a game where save points are considerably spread out (exactly why can console owners not simply save wherever they like, as their PC brethren can? It's not like the PS3 or Xbox 360 don't have room for save files).
On a positive note the graphics look nice.

Around christmas time i wanted a new game , i admit i got sold to by the multiplayer maps, but once home i was amazed, for the journey to make you feel so involved is a big feat considering how little cutscenes and things like that there are, coming towards the end of the game you realise its coming to an end(if you have stuck to the end) and you actually start to think your going to miss the game, at certain points you feel like you are there in africa and its the first game in ages that when you play a little late into the night you feel mischievous like your a kid whos snuck down onto your dads game when everyones asleep, its to put it bluntly, an adventurer's adventure.

Far Cry 2 is an immersive, atmospheric first person shooter set in the jungles of Africa and combines brilliant gameplay with stunning graphics and sound effects to create a unique and rewarding experience.
At first, the game seems a bit tough as the feeling of 'everyone's trying to kill me!' almost makes you want to give up at points. But DON'T! Persevere, and you will be rewarded. The game world is completely open so you can tackle missions any way you want - sniping from the hills or running straight in, guns blazing - and the set pieces such as a railway station and a fort keep the missions varied.
The fact that you can only save at safehouses or a few other points keeps the game challenging and encourages you to tactically plan your assault before you start instead of just charging in, spraying bullets around like hose water.
The Map editor that comes with the game allows you to literally craft your own world, using huge piles of objects, terrain and buildings to create your own multiplayer map, which can then be published online. This is a brilliant and unique feature that adds to the lifespan of Far Cry 2 even further.
Overall, Far Cry 2 is a brilliant game but requires a lot of perseverance to finish it to its full potential. If you're looking for a game that you can immediately pick up, play and move on then Far Cry 2 is probably not for you. However, if you're searching for a unique, thrilling experience that lasts well over the 20-hour mark of gameplay and keeps you interested the whole time then Far Cry 2 is your perfect game.

Was expecting this game to be alot better. I've played it for a few hours now and just don't seem to be able to get excited about it. It looks good graphicly but the game just seems to take too long to get anywhere. I found Resistence 2 to be a far superior game. That said I will give it another chance when I have run out of games that I know I enjoy playing and see if it can change my mind. Overall this game is OK but I feel there are better games out there.

Very dissapointed.
for the price I've paid for this game ,it has a very slow motion action, boring at times,I won't pay 5 quid in the future for this.
comparing with COD ,or even Quake its just boring.
I would rated it at 2 out of 10

i've tried to enjoy this game, but can't.
story: 1/10
you're sent to africa to kill the jackal, why? because he's supplying guns. THATS IT.
graphics: 10/10
the graphics are stunning, the amount of map is huge, and it runs at a steady frame rate. the fire is really cool, things catch alight, but it sad not see a little bit of destructibility.
gameplay: 3/10
the graphics make you want to play the game, but you'll get bored quickly. the games structure is this:
drive/walk
find a mission
receive phone call from buddy
drive/walk
meet buddy to do a secondary missions, (or complete primary mission)
shoot stuff
*repeat
the shooting itself isn't bad, slower than COD, killzone, etc. lack of ability know where your being sht from is just annoying. most annoying thing about this game is a lack of gps. in this game, you're never concentrating on playing the game really, whilst driving/ walking, you're constantly looking at a map that your character pulls out. its hard to describe how annoying it is. you're driving and looking at a map, you're not looking around at the gorgeous environments, scouting for enemies, no, you're looking at a map. i just haven't enjoyed playing this game very much at all.
unfortunately, i give this game a 2/5.

I have recently been playing this game on my PS3 for about a month now and I can safetly say its probably the most broken game I have ever played the idea of the storyline and gameplay walking around Africa etc is fantastic. But the game is so broken the amount of bugs I have experienced is big here's a short list of what I come across reguarly.....
*) Enemies are shooting at you and are not facing you.
*) You can't sneak around in the wilderness even with the camo suit on they still see you even from a long distance. Even jeeps on protrol pass far away and you know they wouldn't be able to see you but still manage too.
*) Trophies have been known not to unlock which I have experienced I've had to do the game 3 times because even on the 2nd go they still did not unlock.
There are more but I will leave you to google them as there is a lot of posts in forums about issues on this game.
The game had the potential to be good but as many have described the story is plain dull the characters during talking about whats going on speak to fast sometimes for you to understand. The driving to 1 section of the 9 block sized map getting reapteadly boring at best and as stated if you die you have to do it all from your last save point so with that in mind SAVE AFTER EACH MISSION.
The game would be a fantastic RPG story filled game if it wasn't for some of the bugs and many more that are about.
Now for online it's dead thats all I can say in short no one plays online hardly and the weapons are seriously overpowered on some. There's a ban feature to ban players and everyone uses it for the most stupidest reasons like....
1) If your winning with a good amount of kills.
2) Using a certain weapon like the Grenade Launcher seems everyone dont like it cant even fire 1 shot off without a vote to ban you.
3) I was banned for acciently killing 1 of my team mates who got in the way.
4) 1 is if they dont know you they'll ban you.
There are again many more issues but the fact is the game can be laggy online as well for some and with the ban feature no one plays.
All in all I'll say it again if it wasn't for the bugs this game would be 1 of the best but sadly Ubi-Soft does not seem to care for consumers who have paid full or a good amount of money. I am using the current 1.03 patch but it hasn't fixed hardly anything that I've mentioned above shame really I cannot recommened it unless your willing to experience some of the bugs. Online would be miles better if they took away the stupid ban feature if someone annoys you during the game it should be at the end of the game you can drop that person. But they'll probably get rid of the decent players knowing the idiots that play online.
As for the game story etc Stevie G's review sums up the story.

I got this along with killzone 2 a few months ago. Whereas iv been playing killzone constantly this has been put on the shelf.
It is so frustratingly annoying. I knew it was a big map, but the travelling gets boring. It will tell you to drive from A to B on the map and you think oh thats easy, but then you get ambushed about 5 times on the way, so annoying.
It boasts some of the best graphics of the next gen but its nothing fantastic. The water is ok, and the scenary is good but some of the more simpler textures are below par. The worst thing about the game is the cars and jeeps. The sounds and driving are awful, you can be doing 60 and slam on reverse and itl stop instantly and start reversing.
Il be trading it in soon. Only get if you have a lot of time to dedicate to this game to fully enjoy it.

Well I was pretty disappointed I'm afraid. I thought the graphics were excellent and this had great potential but I have to say I found the game play repetitive. Admittedly I hadn't played the first game so didn't know what to expect but gambled on the reduced price and positive reviews.
Lots of tedious traveling here and there to do fairly straight forward elongated missions. The guard posts were monotonously irritating. If you've got lots of spare time then maybe this is your thing but for me (not lots of spare time...), I want to get on, be straight in the thick of it, play for 30 minutes and turn it off having achieved something, give me a true FPS any day. Pick it up and play. Hope this is some use, I'm not slating it just for the sake of it, thought it was average.
Source: [amazon.co.uk]
I was never a big fan of the original Far Cry, yes the graphics were nice and the engine was pretty stable, but it didn't stand out as anything other-worldly.
My how things change! I am completely besotted with Far Cry 2; the graphics, the story, the characters, everything is just exactly what I'd want in a game; there's enough action to balance out all the running/swimming/driving around to get to missions and there are plenty of optional extras to give the game massive re-play value.
If you can handle a little bad language, the dialogue is great too. Listening to NPCs screaming "Oh, we're under attack. How many of them are there?" is quite satisfying - makes you feel like a one-man-army such as Rambo or Arnie!
There are a few bugs in the PS3 port, some of which are very frustrating and others just funny (rounding a corner to see a 10 ton boulder hovering in mid air is amusing!) - hopefully Ubi will patch the game-stoppers (I can't get all the Jackal Tapes because I crossed over from North to South before finding them all!!) and this will make the game perfect in my view!

If you are thinking of buying this game to complete 100% and unlock the trophies then please read this review!
Make no mistake, upon starting this game, I was massively impressed and pleased with my purchase. Dynamic environments, impressive AI, awesome graphics and an attention to detail that separates the good games from the unmissable....
HOWEVER...once I had got to grips with the basics of the game and got past the initial novelty factor, it became increasingly clear that a large number of bugs, glitches and design flaws had slipped through the net with this game. Most notable are the glitches that many people have reported, preventing them from progressing further in the game and putting an end to their Far Cry 2 experience. The other major problem is the Multiplayer, which has issues with connection stability (a problem experienced by a lot of people, not just me), after each game you will be sent back to the main menu rather than the game lobby (this happens to EVERYONE except the Host), your XP and kill stats for each weapon will have shrunk when you go back to it the following day (this is a serious problem if you plan to buy this game to get the platinum trophy).
There are many other problems which I don't have the time or energy to mention, so if you are still considering buying this game then you should first check out this thread: []
It is also worth noting that this review is based on my experiences over the last couple of weeks, not since the release of the game (over 6 months ago). Which only adds to the disappointment, as it demonstrates Ubisoft's lack of commitment to a game after its launch.
