PS3 Games, PS3 Accessories, PS3 News... we're the hub for all things PS3!
What a piece of trash this game is. There are many more issues, but here's what I find most glaring of disappointments:
Multiplayer. You spend most your time working through loading screens, stat screens, ready screens, character input screens and character introductions that very little time is actually spent playing the game. Opting out of the game is also very difficult, as there is only one screen that you are able to do so. It is extremely difficult to find someone to play that doesn't lag. I live in San Francisco with a great cable connection, and this is just inexcusable how the game only matches me with players with low pings, and how difficult it is to find people to play. The experience is like you wait and wait for someone to join, and they're either: away or too lagged to play.
Player Base. Most players hover around one fighter. Other fighting games are designed so that you can have fun with multiple players. Not SF4. The reason: it is so prohibitively difficult to get any sort of advantage that you're spent using a select few fighters (Ryu, Ken, Zangief, Abel, etc.) I am absolutely shocked if a opponent picks anyone other than Ken.
Square Gate. For some reason Capcom decided that the original dragon punch motion was too difficult to pull off. Their solution: redesign the joystick's 'gate' (or the restrictor plate that lies underneath the joystick) from a fluid circular motion to a square. This makes it so that your joystick is drawn to the corners, but the top, bottom, left and right don't sit well so your joystick just slides to the corner. Very frustrating when you're trying to block high - you'll either jump back or block low. Doing 360 Zangief or fireball motions are very difficult as well, as your joystick rotates it knicks and knacks across the corners. This square gate's purpose was to facilitate the dragon punch input change, which is also counter-intuitive. You crouch forward then back then forward? Sorry, this was just a bad change. None of the other Street Fighter games have this feature.
Timing. Capcom really messed this up. Most fireballs knock you down, killing the momentum of the game. Most moves have a delay between input and action, so you must plan ahead to absurd degrees. They slowed down the game to make it more like Street Fighter 2, but this was a bad move. Remember Super Street Fighter 2 and how slow that was after the awesome Street Fighter Turbo? They changed Super when they updated the game, and none of the other Street Fighter games were that slow. But - there's a reason why Capcom slowed the game down! Read on...
Combos. Combos are prohibitively awkward. There are still the 'simple' move cancel combos that made Street Fighter famous. And there's Supers and Ultras, which are nice. But trying to combo into an Ultra is often times an exercise. Jump in with a punch, then tap jab twice and move cancel into a special - as that special connects, focus cancel (medium punch + medium kick), tap forward twice - then do the ultra move. This is typical and is such an awkward bunch of commands it requires a painstaking amount of practice to get right (or even remember). I didn't even mention the 'EX' moves, where you must press more than 1 punch or kick button at a time. Good thing Capcom knew how difficult they were and included Trials that show you a lot of these combos. Good luck, you'll need it.
These commands must be input very fast, with precise timing for the combos to pull off. The real reason why Capcom slowed the game down. Great, thanks a lot.
Counters. In previous Street Fighter games certain specials and other moves would counter different attacks. It was a pretty simple concept. Even in Street Fighter 3 with EX specials it made sense (but was a huge step up in difficulty, especially with the parrying technique). In SF4 it is taken to a ridiculous degree. For one, EX moves pretty much counter anything. That loses a lot of the breathtaking gameplay that made the original so great. They totally defeat the purpose of the regular specials counters, when if you want to counter a move all you need to do is press another punch or kick button. Yay! Second, removing parrying made sense as it was very difficult to learn and unfair for players that did know it, but introducing Focus Attacks just slows the game down. Making it so you can time a ridiculously animated Focus Attack while an opponent is getting up - and landing it into some super-over-powered ultra move to end the match just makes it a silly magic trick.
In previous Street Fighter games you really felt proud of a win, because you had to use cunning and tactics to win. In SF4, the more combos, Focus Attack or EX counters you learn will determine whether you win or not. The feeling is not pride in outsmarting your opponent, but out-learning him.
After the excellent Street Fighter 3 and Alpha series, Street Fighter 4 is just such a disappointment that I feel sad that it will probably be years before we see a Street Fighter that is fun again. If ever.

Like all the players and reviewers say, the sound and visuals vastly improve on prior iterations of the Street Fighter series. I like the variety of ways to practice your skills via challenge and training modes, and the sheer volume of unlockables (characters, costume colors, titles, character actions, etc.) reward a gameplayer's growth and experimentation.
If you're a casual player as I am and just use the stock console controllers, your learning curve will level off quite low. Unless you have exceptionally nimble thumbs, a good arcade stick is absolutely essential to pulling off the combo attacks that will beat average-to-advanced opponents in arcade and online modes. Good thing my friend owns this game. I say again, you won't go far in this game without a stick.

It took me some convincing and a steep reduction in price for me to even consider commiting to this purchase after being bitter about Capcom's 'Cash Cow-Fighter' franchise milking but since it's arrived, I have been a very happy bunny.
Firstly, let's clear those messy reviews up: anyone who thinks this game doesnt do the original any justice and pick holes in its apparent 'lack of moves' or glitchy internet performance needs their head (as well as their modem) examined.
Gamespot and industry-wide reviewers have generally hit the nail on the head. Not only does this game play brilliantly, but it does take time to master. The character roster is large (about 18 or so characters - some you have to unlock), new faces have appeared and some excellent tweaks have also been added. For example, new focus moves and unique kicks/punches native to individual characters. This is Capcom doing what made SF2 game so appealing - combining excellent 2D fighting with super-slick gameplay. It is also Capcom's concession of defeat in some ways- they have rid the game of horrid additions in old SF2 perversions such as mid-air fireballs (consigned to only few characters) and wretched mid-air blocks. They have also 'tightened up' characters so Ken and Ryu's dominance is no longer the case, you can pick Zangief, Chun Li etc and still feel you're the stronger character. The gameplay is very smooth and online gaming has me (with my very basic connection) hooked and in awe of how smooth it all is, even with most opponents having very little signal strength. Be warned though, a lot of the more experienced fighters will have you in fits of rage - my control pad is being hurtled across the room on a regular basis.
I've always steered clear of cell shade animation but I am very impressed. The exaggerations of Guile's hair, Chun Li's huuuuge thunder thighs etc are a blast. It's unmistakably 2D fighting but it is also cunning way to 'cheat' around it. The black thick outlines confidently contrast against the 3D backdrops which are now much more up to date and add to the feel of the game. Sound is ace - although the random commentary does irritate me when he gets excited about the first hit.
Other minor gripes: Aside from unlockable bosses, new faces like Abel seem weaker. C Viper is the only exception(?!), Arcade Mode - not clear how to turn off ability for challenger to interrupt your game so it can be v v frequent! CPU is a bit poor, completion Medium Hard is relatively easy.
The advent of Super SFIV is annoying and I just hope Capcom don't milk the franchise too much once again. It was the constant spending of money on new 'releases' at FULL PRICE back in the day on the SNES (i.e Turbo, Super SF 2 which put me off this one initially. As did the other crappy abhorrations out there (see the hideous SF Vs Marvel) Which as a shame, because this is a real gem.
Bring it on.

I had been playing Tekken 6 prior to buying this and when I got this i was disappointed big time. The characters don't seem to have many moves compared to Tekken 6.
The graphics are also nothing to Tekken6. This is a old school game for the fans, and Tekken has better graphics and every character has many more moves.

The game is not bad. It's just not great. The controls are hard to master and in doing so the game becomes very monotonous. The most value is in playing with friends. I haven't played online but as a solo game it really is lacking.
Source: [amazon.com]
After all the reviews this game sounded brilliant.
I had always loved SF games but this i felt was a disapointment.
1st problem is that the combos are far to difficult to pull off, you can practise them in the trial bit, but when your battling someone you literally do not have time to press all the buttons for the ultra and super combos, before you are smacked to the ground, this results in just kicking and jumping.
The 2nd problem is that the game in general is far to difficult. Seth and saggart are too tough, and DEFIANTLY do not let you do any good combos (the only way your going to do enough damage to them) even on easiest I find seth too difficult to live.
The final problem is that the online mode sucks, i search for players and find a couple (a lot of lost connections) and hardly any green or yellow bars. Played a few times, didnt impress me.
In conclusion, it has no way got the same appeal as SF2, feels too heavy and slow, and ultimatly you end up more frustrated than enjoying the game.
If your the type of person who wants to put work and effort into a game then this may be ok for you, but i prefer my games to be purley for enjoyment purposes.

This is coming from an old fan of the series. And in this game one thing stands true. Your mileage will vary.
Pros:
The 3D graphics and backgrounds are a nice touch since it is on new generation consoles, and the animated cut scenes are pretty good too. Two of the new characters I can stand, El Fuerte and Crimson Viper. And they keep the classic movements intact.
Cons:
Some characters, I'm looking at you Rufus, are not balanced very well in my opinion. Rufus is just too fast for his size, no man that large should be able to move like that. And the new Ultra moves could have been taken out and replaced with one or two more super moves.
This might seem contradictory, but I liked how Third Strike pulled the single super off. But IV just dropped the ball and did too many changes for my taste.

Not a 5, but a 4.5.
This game keeps the spirit of the old and super awsom SF2 and SF2 turbo many of us loved and got hooked on when we were kids. Over 20 charachters, great movement and game speed, and some new stuff that add up to the experience.
If youve never played fighting games, or have done it only eventually, SF4 is gonna be very tough on you. This is no begginers game. This seem to have been made for street fighters fans. Some people complain about it, I actually LOVE IT. If its hard for you, change the difficulty level to very easy.
There are some very minor things to critique though. The background worlds dont excell in graphics, even if theyre 3D. And, when youre playing arcade against the tough guys, I believe the game brakes its own rules putting you in disadvantage. Ive seen my combos ,ultra combos and focus attacks broken by a low punch wich is frustrating. I think SF has to be like a good game of chess, both players have to have the same tools and pieces against each other.
Overall, FOR ME, this is definately, the best fighting game of the decade. I recommend it 100%.

Street Fighter IV is a fighting game that lets you select a character and square off against another warrior in the ring. There are many different modes start with such as story mode, online mode, tournament mode and challenge mode. Street fighter 4 is a good fighting game worth playing. There are a number of mechanics that long time fans would have to learn and remaster in order to understand the gameplay. Each character has a variety of normal attacks and Special Moves to take advantage and one of my favorite part about Street Fighter IV is the Focus system, which allows a character to charge up an attack that will knock the opponent down if it connects properly. Players who want to get more into the technical key of it all will learn that the Focus Attack can also absorb incoming attacks which can gives the player a better edge during an online match. In this way, the Focus Attack becomes a defensive technique as well as an offensive one. There are two meters that can be used in a match: the Super meter and the Ultra meter. The Super meter fills as you land attacks and the Ultra meter goes up as you're getting hit. You can use the Super meter to execute Super Combos that can be chained together to bring your enemies health faster. On the other hand, you can use the Ultra meter for an Ultra Combos which are more devastating attacks that can change the fight to win easily. Overall good game and i give it a 9.0 for being a unique fighting game and enjoy playing it with friends.
8.7 Presentation
It well-polished and clean, with PS3 and 360 versions which are both the same. Funny animated cutscenes should be change to story-telling.
9.1 Graphics
it is clear, artistic and was animated nicely. I find rose soul spark (fireball) pretty cool.
8.9 Sound
there are plenty of tunes to satisfy the fighting.
9.4 Gameplay
Street Fighter IV is a smart step to go back to the old series. It brings back some old characters (Akuma,Balrog,Blanka,Cammy White,Chun-Li,Dan Hibiki,Dhalsim,Honda,Fei Long,Gen,Gouken,Guile,Ken, Bison,Rose,Ryu,Sagat,Sakura,Kasugano,Vega,Zangief and some new ones like (Abel,Crimson,Viper,Fuerte,Rufus,Seth)
9.5 Secrets
A huge list of unlockables keeps single-player sessions pretty rewarding. Online mode is pretty addicting as you can unlock many titles, icons, money, and medals making you want to keep on playing with against other people.

I've traded my copy in because this is a frustratingly difficult game. I hadn't played Street Fighter before though I do enjoy other fighters (Soul Caliber, Tekken...) For me, this game was not worth the time and effort needed to be able to get to a point where you can be competitive and enjoy it. The moves are really hard to pull off and I have no desire to spend countless hours perfecting them and getting overly irritated in the process. I played the single player for a couple weeks and then decided I have enough other games that I actually enjoy playing so I traded this one in.

One of the best games for PS3 right now. 5/5 easy, the online is awesome just be prepared for some extremely stiff competition. The last boss is one that will not go down without a fight so strap on your fighting gloves and practice those Hadokuns! because this is the best it gets until Super Street fighter 4.

The game has great graphics and I do like how each of the characters are customized in their own responses, voice clips and indvidualized resonses to each character as they win. That is neat. Also the game balance is revuped, to a point. You can't win the game by using chun-li's wind kick or ehonda's hand slap. You have to EARN IT! Also the cheese factor that plagued the sf2 games, ease of throws and corner traps are not so easy. Also I liked the fact that they are many counters to the fireballs and uppercuts, making ken and ryu more level players. So throwing fireballs and uppercuts won't always mean you will win! I love the new animations and facial expression, taunts, and some of the ease of pulling off a few super moves. The new characters don't detract but don't entirley add that much either. I HATE the fact that unlocking the hidden charcters is a huge CHORE! Give me a quick and sneaky secret code. I don't have all nights/days, especially if I"m renting the game. I do enjoy bgm music but you can keep that boy band. Also online, the interface is sweet but the community of people there are NOT! It is no fun to play against someone who super cheeses you with the super secret hidden charcaters and you barely know the game and you don't have access to the hidden characters. Also the inability to back up save game files on the PS3 counts heavily against it! But over all I do enjoy the game but it won't be a purchase for me becuase of the lack of back up and online play. The opening cinamatics are weak. The end boss remains cheesey and not fun to play against after a while and I don't have so much time to play, it becomes boring. But playing against a player next to you is a whole lot of fun and playing hoping to allow someone to jump in on arcade is great, as long as there would have been some sort of skill matching. It took me about 45 minutes to find 2 matches and both served me on a platter using cheese wiz tactics with characters I couldn't acccess. NOT FUN! But I did like the big kung fu guy after Ken Masters! Finally Ken Masters has some competition! Overall a good rental, but not a purchase.

Bought this game because of good reviews and i felt like i needed a fighting game. Main reason I bought this game was because I really liked Street fighter EX plus Alpha on the PS way back. Only after I got this game did i realise the Alpha series was made by different developers.
Street Fighter 4 does not feel as smooth as the Alpha series... this is more choppier. Maybe its too arcadey for my taste. I may have liked this series when i was just a kid in the mid-90's playing it on arcade machines on summer days after a swim at the local leisure centre (oh the nastalgia) with friends, but there is not that special feeling about this game for me now. Judging by other reviews, its probably just me.

Capcom is all about milking the franchise, so it's no surprise that SUPER Street Fighter IV is launching 13 months after SF IV. A few "new" characters, lots of tweaking, and rock bottom low price to get you to buying this weak update. If they needed to tweak:
- The impressive new roster includes classic combatants from previous Street Fighter games like T. Hawk as well as all-new characters such as the mysterious and deadly female fighter, Juri.
- Super Street Fighter IV adds new Ultra Combos and advancements to the state of the art online matchmaking and online game play introduced in Street Fighter IV with numerous additional features
- Super Street Fighter IV takes many of the groundbreaking features introduced in Street Fighter IV and refines everything to deliver the ultimate vision of Street Fighter to fans the world over.
It's shouldn't be a new stand alone game, it should be a free expansion update for what is clearly a lack of game testing before it went to market.

Ok so I'm reading a lot of reviews that point out the complexity and sensitivity of the controls. When I first purchased this game when it came out, I had to backorder the MadCatz Fight Stick. I agree, that this game without the fight stick is impossible to master. The directional pads are just to strenuous on your thumbs, and the sequences are beyond difficult to hit on just the regular controller. I got frustrated, and put the game away in my library for 3 months. Then one day, the fight sticks arrived at my door, finally off of the initial stock back order. Since then, this game has produced some of the most entertaining times for my friends and I. Moves that were mild-difficult on the regular PS3 controller became easy and the harder moves actually became possible with some practice.
It's like anything else: If you put in the time, you will get results. The game becomes deeper as you become a more experienced player. Sure it's still fun if you want to throw it in once in a while and have a couple of fights with friends, but the real imagination and art of this game unravels the more you play.
Take my advice and get the fight sticks along with the game.

this is worth every penny! i reccomend this game to all ps3 game buyers who enjoy games full of challenge. The game arived to my door two days afer i purchaced it in mint condition. Online play is what makes this game, fighting against others all over the world! Overall This is my favorite game as i have played litrally every street fighter game that has come out to the market.

If you're like me and you grew up as consoles were developing (remember the NES, Atari and SEGA Master System?) Then you'll appreciate that there is only one beat-em-up game... Street Fighter. Everything else is a pale imitation. It's lost none of it's charm and in developing it they haven't made it over complicated and added in pointless and unnecessary features for the sake of saying 'new and improved'. It's a good old fashioned, no-nonsense fighting game, does exactly what it says on the tin. Brilliant!

I have recently purchased this game, and I am not dissapointed in anyway. I was a big fan of hyper street fighter on the SNES and felt that most of the Street fighter incarnations have let it down. This one however is a 2D fighter like the SNES one with a focus on better graphics and it dosnt dissappoint me in the slightest. It brings back all the fun my friends I had on the SNES well worth adding to your fighting games collection.

i previously reviewed this and said that it was not as good as tekken due to fewer moves and no 3d ;however now i have had time to play the game i realise that street fighter 4 is as good if not better than tekken as you can do some amazing combos and it only takes a bit of practice for the ultra moves. i have discovered the tutorial system in the challenge mode and i am now addicted to this game....get it..now

This is a fun way to relive the old Street Fighter experience with up-to-date graphics. A couple newer moves and characters. Other than that I wasn't terribly impressed. Oh, and the people that play online are pretty skilled at this game it seems. I liked Borderlands better, but for a good time feel free to call on this title.

You've seen dozen of reviews. But I gather if your still deciding to get this game now, you are not hardcore SF gamer but a casual one. Maybe some nostalgia your looking for.
Let me tell you I play this game 20 hours - a week!!!!
I'm slowing becoming an sf nerd. Half that time is in training mode trying to conquer complex combos. But its a futile lifestyle. At the end of the day, if you don't have a arcade stick you are at a serious disadvantage especially with the shark infested waters online. I opted to go with a mad catz fight pad. Twice as good as the PS pad, but 10 times worse than a stick.
Look, this game will gather dust if you don't have patience for people beating you up and learning from your hundreds of mistakes. This is my gripe with the game. Link combos require split second precision are inaccessible to most people and this is the only way to improve and be good at it.
Ask your self if your up to it.

I was playing street fighter since the 80s. It was always my favorite game of all time. However this is the worst one they had come out. Graphic was too cartoonist to a point that it looks rough(all characters pack up with too much muscle looks fake). This is 2009 with a platform of PS3, I would have expected something alot better. This game lacks new moves; you can find the exact way of playing ryu as usual except this game response more akward. They even canceled some of the nice combo connections you can perform from the previous SF. Over all I played this game under suprise which gave me none.

A brilliant game, perfect graphics, a good variety of fighters, fun with friends or online, addictive and beginner friendly for the most part, plenty to unlock. But I'm a negative person so onto the negative points. For a start the story mode cut scenes are anime, really rubbish anime that tell you very little about the character. I mean when I completed the game with Ryu... well... I still have no idea what happened. Another tiny flaw is that you can't view the moves you want to do in practice mode, this would help in learning the moves I think but it isn't missed really. I'm scraping the barrel for negatives an failing, it really is a brilliant game... BUT! There is one awful flaw, a flaw that Capcom need to sort out... Seth, the boss, is a joke. I ease past every single fighter with ease on whichever difficulty (in arcade mode) and then Seth comes along... almost impossible... you can't stand far away from him, he beats you down with 'Sonic Booms', you can't stand close, he does a powerful grapple move, you can't stand at a medium distance, he just teleports behind you, you can't jump over him, he just uppercuts you. Basically he is a cheat character, and he wrecks the fun factor to a large extent, he forces you into a decision, either spend countless hours waiting for a bit of luck or just play on an easier difficulty to unlock the characters. And finishing the game on Easiest hardly gives you the greatest sense of satisfaction. It would have been 5 stars all round. I would love to give it 5 stars for fun factor! But I can't because a boss should never damage any game to this degree. Imagine playing through Resident Evil only to reach an impossible boss, it just wouldn't happen and there's a reason for that. Despite the joke of a boss this is probably the best fighter out there, you can't really get away with button mashing and it rips Tekken 6 to shreds. Buy it, love it, get angry at it.

What there more to say? If you love SF3 you will love SF4. I just got it yesterday and I love it. I highly recommend it.

I am absolutely in love with the visuals of this game, I was very sceptical during the early hype and marketing days but once I tried it my mind was blown. Now as the sequel Super Street Fighter 4 is out this game has drastically reduced in price meaning there is now no excuse not to have this game if you play fighting games at all.
One of the few best looking games on the PS3, and the best looking fighting game.

The first fighting game I ever played was Guilty Gear and I loved it, still my all time favorite. I played 3rd Strike sometime after and it quickly became a close second. I was deadly excited for SFIV and picked it up first day. I waited a while to post this review to see if this game would stand the test of time. While I do like this game a lot it doesn't really strike me as enticing as other fighting games. Graphically I wish they would of stuck with 2D, everyone looks so ugly in IV. Comparing it with other HD fighters recently released (Blazblue, etc) it just doesn't compare visually. The backgrounds look bland and polygonal (I've played on all three consoles before judging the ps3 mind you.) Secondly, the roster is rather bland, almost half the cast is shoto variant and just makes the overall variation bland. Again, comparing with GG and BB where every character is completely different it feels bland. C. Viper is a breath of fresh air and by far my favorite new character, Rufus is also interesting. As far as tiers go, it's fairly balanced by taking Sakura down to garbage tier because of her Alpha glitches was just mean! =[ No replays is also a shame missing and the ability to not carry over saves is crap. I've gotten my data corrupted several times and it's only been this game that's affected. Plot is utter trash as always but there are a load of great quotes not meant to be funny but nonetheless enjoyable.(IS HIBIKI SAN HERE?!) The biggest problem I have with IV is the removal of the parry system from 3rd Strike. Focus Attacks, it's replacement, is just not the same and doesn't have the same awesome feel. The removal of air blocks is also something that makes this game extremely frustrating at times. Overall, a solid fighting game but they could of done better and added just a few little quirks to make it amazing. Another small point to make is the announcer is terrible and having an announcer is a fighting game is just stupid, I hate them at tournaments and putting them in a game is even more retarded. Plus he can't even pronounce half the roster. (CHUN Li, like RUN, seriously is it that hard?)
P.S
I think Super Street Fighter IV will fix a lot of the problems I've cited above and I definitely look forward to playing it, JURI!

Having grown up playing the original SF, SFII in the arcades.. I've seen every iteration since then. This one definitely brought more to the table than the previous versions.
The good: all of the fun is online.
The Bad: All of the fun is online.
I liked single player, unlocking stuff, etc.. But where you end up getting your money's worth is online. What I don't like about that is that I don't really like playing online very often. Matchups are nice and easy, not that laggy.. But if you like to play solo or with friends in your living room mostly this game might end up collecting dust on your shelf.
The really bad: good god the intro and standard music is terrible and repetitive.

The local game is amazing, great graphics, and the fun fast Street Fighter gameplay that we all love. The problems start when you go online. Unless you're ready to study the millisecond timing of moves, combos, counters, and weaknesses of every player, then don't bother, because there are too many people out there with waaaay too much time on their hands who will kill you every time and suck all of the fun out of the game.

This game is impossible to complete, how are we supposed to play with the new caracters!!!!
Please I really hate the charged up combos (Keep it the same as SF 2 which was perfect).
Anyway, bought it as I grew up with SF2, it's for sale now after a week.
Also heard of a new version coming out in 3 months, so don't bother paying too much for this one.

Prepare to have sore thumbs, 'cause Street Fighter is back.
The series is popular for a reason, it's just plain fun to play. The special attacks are relatively simple to pull off, and the characters are all extremely well balanced, so no fighter has any innate advantages over the others. Winning is based purely on the skill of the player rather than the character they chose. There's an nice roster of characters to choose from, so it's fairly easy to pick your poison and get down to playing, especially since most characters have more or less the same moves they always did.
Graphically, the game is a wonder to behold. Capcom did an amazing job bringing the animated characters into 3D. Everyone looks just how you imagined they would, and the detail involved is great. Even the backgrouds are filled with motion. Likewise, the soundtrack is also good, updating some old favorites and throwing in some new songs to boot.
The new characters add some flair to the game, and the animated opening and ending cinemas for each character, while not very long or detailed, give a little more insight into the storyline than usual. If you pay attention, the stories coincide, giving the game a united storyline. In all, Street Fighter IV is simply an incredible game.
However, the game does have it's flaws.
Street Fighter IV is not kind to the casual gamer. I've played every Street Fighter since Street Fighter 2 on Super Nintendo, so I'd like to think I'm a decent player. I popped in the game, picked Ken, and played the game on Medium difficulty. And the computer won. Over and over again. Even on the easiest difficulty setting available, the computer can be merciless. You'll be winning sometimes and other times you'll hit a stage and the difficulty will spike. Suddenly you can't beat this one opponent no matter how hard you try. After about dozen losses, you finally get lucky and win. Then you reach the final boss, and you probably know already that true to form, he's a cheap little sucker.
The focus of the game has also changed from easy-to-create combos to the new focus attack system. Theoretically, one can string together long combos by cancelling moves with focus attacks and then dashing to do another move. Challenge mode offers Trials meant to teach the player to use this system, but the combos it calls for can be all but impossible to do for those of us who aren't pros. Be prepared to spend a very, very long time practicing. That means sore thumbs and cramped hands for the casual gamer.
In all this is an excellent game, one any Street Fighter fan should own. The difficulty of the computer and the complexity of the combos are a bit tedious, but with a lot of practice you should be fine. Besides, I always had the most fun playing Street Fighter with my friends, and I'm sure this game will be no different. On another note, Super Street Fighter IV, an update to the game with new content, is going to be released soon. You might prefer to get that version when it releases.

Great Fighting Game. Eaisly accessible and playable. Great for first time players
and for experienced ones as well. Graphics are excellent and controlls very
responsive. Would recommend this game for both children and young adults.
Excellent for fans of the series.
Presentation of game great and menus eaisy to use. Many fun characters in game to
appeal to everyone. Game will also appeal to fans of Japanese anime as there are
many in game movies in anime style.
Many times I have bought fighting games and became frustrated with difficulty
level. But this game has many difficulty levels to choose from so you can play at
your skill level and enjoy the game. Excellent balance between challenging and fun
to play.

The graphics of the game I would wish that they were better. Its 2009 already it is too cartoonish

its a really good game, the new features are easy to understand and the review of the history of the comic really makes a nice touch!!!

This game is a ton of fun. However, should you want to play with the extra characters in the upcoming, revamped Super Street Fighter IV, you might want to think about holding off on your purchase for a while. Super will NOT be a DLC add-on but a new disc-based version, so you'll have to re-buy the game to get Super. Further, Super will probably launch at below the standard $59.99. Food for thought....Fight!!

good game but i think Soul Calibar is better becuase in this game the screen only focused in the players while on soul calibar its focused on both players and the stage moving in all diection in street fighter just one direction.
other thing the moves in street fighter are very hard to do the super mover while in soul calibar its quite easy.

Overall a very nice fighting game.
It would be better though if it had more super/ultra moves (Street Fighter Alpha 3 had around 3 different super moves per character...). You may get bored executing the same super/ultra move over and over (not to mention that depending on the circumstances other moves would be a better match).
The collectors edition package is not anything great. It has two average quality/detail figures, a useless booklet with some moves for the new characters and a bluray anime movie (haven't seen it yet). My point is that it does not worth much more money than the standard version, so buy it only if you find in a good price (like i did!).

This is hands down the best fighting game of this generation. The graphics are stunning and the animation is smooth and lag free throughout. The actual gameplay is typical street fighter but is slightly more forgiving than the older versions of the game. Don't let this fool you into thinking this game is easy though. For any casual gamer they will find it tough to complete the game on easy as it takes much practice. Eventually the effort pays off for what is one of the most purest beat 'em up for a long time.
Rock hard, but with perseverance and dedication this game is a true gem.

I bought this out of nostalgia really. I was a big street fighter fan growing up and thought this looked really good. In theory, this should be ace. How can it not work? After about an hour you realise that the effects arent that nice close up and the music is super cheesey and tacky.
The gameplay impresses at first with pretty textures and colours to dazzle you. However, its really difficult to win against a couple of characters (expected) but when you have to finish arcade mode to unlock characters - it puts a huge dampener on your enjoyment. At first, I was in hysterics after a match and you hear a new characters witty comeback about the fight. In the case of Crimson Viper, who seems to be an accountant - she asks them if they get insurance and other really lame financial quips.
The characters seem to be very very thin. There's a new baddie called Seth who is a blatant rip off of Dr Manhattan in Watchmen.
On the outside, this game looks amazing and is a welcome comeback after such a long break. However, theres not a lot to keep you entertained.

This is a great update to the series. Fantastic graphics, excellent gameplay with the added bonus of online. Love it.

the best fighter out there. it requires skill and practice and isnt just a game where you can spend years mastering it and still be beaten by a button mashing noob. the online mode is fantastic. you can set up a server and while you wait for another person to join, you can play through the arcade mode. there are one or two problems though. the final boss, seth is relentlessly cheap and is a challenge on easy, let alone medium. the beginning and ending cutscenes for characters are in an anime style but are badly animated and sometimes dont even show the characters motives for going into the tournamant! overall, this is highly recommended for fighting game enthusiasts and in my opinion is the most well thought out of all of them.

After the quality & depth of 2d SF III/Third Strike - SF IV seems rather more of a button masher compared to SF III. Ryu & Ken being way to similar, easy and strong. Also other characters are also similar to each other in fighting styles. No timing or depth is needed to pull of moves as it seems to have all been simplified. The 2d has now been replaced with 2.5d - this actually takes away the special moves that made the 2d versions so much fun to watch, it's zooming around camera takes away the atmosphere and view of full attack when pulled off compared to 2d.
The backgrounds have also lost it's atmosphere. Only the 2 temple & day/dark street had any atmosphere. The graphics just seem to cartoony and is not sure if this game should have gone 2d or full 3d - not in the middle.
For people who want the enjoyment of 2d beat-em ups; wait for the upcoming King Of Fighters XII, or get Blazblue.
