    A nice surprise!, 12 May 2010

I played the first resistance and really enjoyed it, so I looked forward to receiving the sequal. Although I didn't find it as enjoyable as the first one, it does get much better the more into the story line you go, I would have given this a 4 and a half star rather than 5 star if I were able. At the end of the original you see a little cutscene which is the beginning of this game, it is nice how it leads on but things seem to have changed very quickly with the win of the first game as you will see when you play (I try not to give spoilers!)

A couple of the low points: The voice of Hale as changed, I do not feel he is as good as the original but then there is not that much dialogue from him in this one compared to the original. There is not the split screen campaign mode like the first one either. There are a couple of enemies that will insta-kill you with one hit, this can be very annoying as you have to redo some parts. I found that the main baddie at the end of the game was a bit too easy to defeat and you are told how to do it during play.

Unsure point: Instead of health bars, when you get hit the screen starts to turn red at the edges and so you have to run into cover to regain health, I cannot decide if I like this aspect or not, some people love it/hate it.

Good points: There are lots more enemies to face and more weapons to use, a few from the original and there is the trophy system if you enjoy that. unlike the original you cannot carry all the types of weapons, you are limited to two so you have to be a bit more careful in your usage. You have more variety of grenades to use, they do have some good effects. There are a few sections that give you a good scare as enemies pop out at you and on one section using a projectile saw to dismember enemies is very gratifying. There is also the online element that you can do the campaign in co-op, and you can play as teams to kill other players, capture the base, etc... This leads into an experience based experience which as you go up levels unlocks more abilities you can use and ways to customise the look of your character, which I felt was a very nice touch and is very fun to play if you are experienced or not.

The scenery is well done in the game and I loike the way when you run the camera shakes and so gives it a bit of a cinematic feel. Some of the scenery later on it can be a bit hard to tell where walkways go but it doesn't take you long to figure out the way.

Overall, I would recommend that you add this game to your collection, it is a decent game sequal and does take some time to complete, if you like trophies you can try to collect these along the way and there are the good ole intel packages to collect as in the first game so you can read up on weapons, enemies and adds a little bit more to the story. Playing it on medium difficulty is not a breeze and this is good as some games are too easy to sale through on this setting. Also, there are some free downloads for the game off the playstation network, which is always nice :)

The Pros and Cons of Resistance 2, 26 Apr 2010

For $29.99, Resistance 2 is an incredible deal. It's not perfect, in fact it's far from it, but it still manages to provide hours upon hours of great gameplay.

    Pros:

    1) Amazing multiplayer: this game is worth buying just for the multiplayer alone.

    2) Fantastic co-op: party up with your friends or use the matchmaking system to find an online game. In this mode you use teamwork to complete custom designed missions for co-op. This is the best mode in the game, in my opinion.

    3) Beautiful visuals: I like the orange color pallet used in this game. In the background, there are massive units destroying cities and other things. It's very similar to God of War III in that respect. The overall presentation and graphics are incredible, even by today's standards.

    4) Great ranking system: XP towards your main rank is earned from playing competitive, singleplayer, or co-op. I like how Insominiac did this. It rewards playing all aspects of the game.

    5) Great party system: Partying up with friends is a peace of cake. It's not as good as Halo, but it's one of the best I've seen on the PS3.

    Cons:

    1) Nothing like "Resistance: Fall of Man": fans of the original game will be VERY disappointed. The game no longer plays like a fast paced arcade shooter, it plays more like Call of Duty. New comers to the series probably won't care, but fans of the original will be very pissed off. I sure was at first.

    2) Controls: Horrible, horrible, horrible. They are now like Call of Duty's controls. Luckily they are customizable, but I doubt anyone will be able to create a comfortable layout. The biggest problem is how slow the game feels. The main character seems to walk soooooo slow. Or is it just me?

    3) Story: Not a very good story, but I do like the direction they took Hale in this game. He is more outspoken and dominant than in the first game.

    4) Health system: The singleplayer health system is awful. It's right out of the Call of Duty playbook. As you get shot, the screen gets more red. That's right, no more yellow health packs. The new health system just doesn't work. It doesn't clearly display how much health you have left.

Overall: Great game, but it has its shortcomings. Fans of the original Resistance will be disappointed, but maybe over time will warm up to the game. Addicting multiplayer, mediocre singleplayer. Nothing more, nothing less.

Great addition to PS3 Library, 12 Apr 2010

This game is a must-have for action-fan PS3 owners, it has eye-popping graphics, fantastic gameplay, creative and gigantic level design, and very smooth and intuitive controls. 2-player co-op is good too. 4 of 5 stars, rent it first just to be sure it is your style of game.

    Meh, 5 Apr 2010

I got this game because it has great online system for the ps3. It reminds me of COD4 setup for everything with the perks and rewards and all, but because its so similar I find myself playing COD4 instead. Also not many people use microphones, so communication is out the window.

The single player sucks though. After the first one had great single player experience, I was really disappointed with the single player on this one. But it does make up for it in online experience.

I got it for cheap, and the description matched the quality of the disc. I received it within the expected time frame.

TL;DR:It's not that great of a game, because it's not unique. Nothing makes it different from the crowd.

Couldn't "resist", had to have both games..., 25 Feb 2010

I got a great deal and bought this for $30 brand new off eBay. Graphics are noticeable better than the first Resistence but no way near the quality of Killzone 2.

Not sure if it's just me but I find this easier to play than the first game. Game has trophies too...

    Regretful buy, 20 Feb 2010

How is this game still retailing for $57 when it is over a year old and you can get it used for $25...Before you buy read the reviews (from each rating) and decide for yourself, some people like it but a lot of people don't, including me. Fortunately I bought it used, but It is not even worth the space it takes up on my shelf. Its not very original, entertaining, challenging and it is just kinda meh, boring.

Solid as Rock, 28 Jan 2010

I wont say things than everyone has already said. Just than from day one a got this game I was so amazed from the scale, I become a FOS fan since modern warfare, but somehow y actually enjoy a lot more this kind of games, i am not so much into online gameplay, but tried this one and really enjoyed it, but more than anything.... it has a great story, sadly it ends in a a strangae way, but openning the prelude to what's to come. Overall, amazing storytelling, graphics and fun of course. I love how much Insomniac puts love in its games. I I gadly way for them, just as Kojima Productions, Naughty Dog and Poliphony's quality.

I do software for living, there fore I am completly against piracy and enjoy paying for videogames that deserve the money, for thos who dont, shame on them....

A wells made FPS, but rather generic, 23 Jan 2010

Like most here, I believe the first Resistance was an excellent game, that blended WWII sensibilities with aliens to make something fresh and rather excellent. The sequel looses those elements and makes a rather generic game. The game itself is well made, the graphics are an upgrade over the previous one, the controls very tight, and some genuinely good boss fights make the experience well constructed. But there's feeling of something new or fresh, or even the feeling left with the first. Perhaps the creators thought it would be better to advance the game and make it more like other FPS, but in so doing they lost their special magic. I didn't like the limitation now placed on holding weapons. More often than not, I was using the same weapon the whole game to get through it, rather than using whatever weapon may be fun at the time. The story was more like Halo than the first game, and I was not thrilled with the ending.

Overall the game is well made, executed and everything is good on paper. If you're looking for a FPS in general you won't be disapointed, but if you're looking for an improvement on the original, you'll probably be disapointed.

How can you do worse the second time around?, 10 Jan 2010

    To insomniac, this game was like retaking a class that they had already received an A for and getting a D. I really wanted to enjoy this game but everywhere they got it right on the first one, they really failed on the second. Instead of fixing issues from the first one like the fact that you can't go prone, they only capitalized on the first one's shortcomings with their own new batch of failures for the second. I would give this game three stars for online game scale, not that it is as fun as any of the others out there, but simply for scale, as you can play up to 60 players, but that's not worth $65.00. The reason why I dropped it by an additional star is purely personal as I got ripped off when I purchased it off of ebay; It was listed as new, but when I received it not only was it not new, it was severely damaged from misuse by the seller and it froze everytime I inevitably died and try to restart, making the one hit kills even more annoying. I could go on for over two pages on the misses in this game but another reviewer has already done so excellently. And I quote;

By Raul G. "Raul G." (USA) - See all my reviews

    "Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

Resistance 2 comes as somewhat of a disappointment to me. I absolutely loved the first Resistance game for the PS3 and it was truly the first "must have" title for the system.

Unfortunately many of the things that endeared me to the first game have been modified or dropped completely in R2. The excellent narration between levels featured in the first game is now completely gone and sorely missed. The story suffers because of it. Now instead of getting a quick update of the fight against the Chimera the game relies on in-game voice acting to move the story. It simply doesn't work for me. The objectives are never quite clear enough, the motivation isn't quite there. I felt like every level was simplified to "kill the guys who don't look like us". Very disappointing considering the first game had such an excellent story.

Another disappointment to me is the graphics. While R2 does add more colors to the originals palette the game is by no means stunning. Graphical glitches are prevalent in everything from evident polygon seams to areas completely missing textures. The environment textures themselves vary from pixilated to blurry. This all stands in stark contrast to in-game bosses which are stunning. The graphical detail from level to level is also uneven. The very first level looks terrible while the next level, situated in a redwood forest, looks great. I can't help but feel that the game could've used another 6 months in development to improve the graphics.

Also cut are the fun vehicle sequences from R1. That's right you won't get a crack to pilot any vehicle of any type at any point in the game. Co-operative offline campaign has also been cut and replaced with random levels that feature no story to speak of. Very disappointing.

Another change to R2 is the weapons themselves. The first game featured a large variety of weapons that were added to the player's inventory permanently. Now, not only has the amount of weapons offered dwindled; but you can only carry 2 weapons at one time. I can understand certain players citing more realism as the reason for the change but it simply doesn't make sense - Resistance isn't about realism.

Changes too have been made to the health system. In the first game the player had a traditional health bar that provided the pertinent information. That has now been removed in favor of a damage system represented by a red screen. The more damage your character takes the more red the outer ring of your screen will become. I don't have a problem with the new system as much as I have a problem with the one-hit instant kills that have been added to the game. Certain enemies retain the capability of stopping you dead in your tracks. Unfortunately this is abused by the developer and you'll find yourself randomly dying at the hands of enemies in what can only be described as trial and error. It's very frustrating to be killed unexpectedly because you're unclear where to go or what to do or by invisible enemies.

One change to the game that I liked is the inclusion of a cast of characters that Nathan actually fights alongside. The first Resistance game was essentially a one man show. While in R2 you have no direct control of your squad-mates they are there and fight along with you. The AI for these characters is moderately capable.

The online portion of the game has clearly received more attention in R2. You now have a slew of options including cooperative and competitive online modes. A big selling point touted by the developer is the ability to fight in 60-player online battles. My experience thus far has been mixed. The massive battles I've played in are unorganized and chaotic. I confess that thus far I'm not a fan. The game attempts to encourage small squad based objectives but it hasn't had the desired effect. In online games I've started it seems that my squad immediately fragments into individuals.

Ultimately, Resistance 2 will probably be liked more by newcomers to the series. Fans of the original game will likely notice the shortcomings and changes all to well. Still, R2 is a proficient enough of an effort and here's hoping the next game realigns with the efforts of the first. "

Will so called gamers ever learn how to play online FPS?, 9 Jan 2010

After "complete" the campaign portion of the game, I started play a lot of online team deathmatch games. So, my short term memory is all about online now. So, I tend to play with the FarEye sniper rifle a lot since I like to be able to hit from distance and position myself to make maximum damage to the enemy team. I use just the regular Sixaxis and/or DualShock controllers from Sony. After a while I can pretty much stay within top 15 in a 60-people match consistently. The thing that frustrates me the most (I am sure it's the same with other online FPS games) is that there are just too many "kids" like to just run around and shoot everything that is of a body shape and/or moves. And many of them are very good at it and proud of their ability of "spotting the enemies" for a quick kill. Then there are a few the "true elite" R2 experts who are experts on every weapon they choose to use. For instance, if they use the same sniper rifle, they can kill you every time if they want to and you (even for me who can get in top 10 of 60 players) will have to play really hard to get to them (if lucky) one out of 5-6 times against them. I am sure they use some kind of whatever "techniques" or "gears" to make them "the best of the bests" or whatever terabits network they are on to play the game. Then at the end you look at their kills score, they have over 150 kills with only less than 20 deaths. the next person only has little over 100 kills. May be I have not keeping up with the gaming gears, but I really doubt that these guys are that good if they play like the rest guys on there. I understand things have to do with your internet connection speed, skill and all. But for the life of me, I just don't see that one can be 50% better than the next guy in top 3. Well, I couldn't care less whatever that is they do. Just an observation to me.

On the other hand, I wish the game will allow snipers to battle each other in a setting similar to that in the movie - Enemy at the gate. Like there are snipers on each side, but still allow you to be others (with different weapons, but you will not be able to run around so fast, get real, do you see soldiers running around in battles, may be only when they got attacked by Transformers, lol), but there are also (generated) troops that you need to take out on either side. Every time you fire a shot, you give away your position to the other snipers. Anyway, I am way passed the point that running around shoot everything brings excitement. Sometimes, I get into a good rivalry with some good sniper players and we try to out do each other. That's the excitement I am looking for and get me back to play this game. I simply play with what I had been trained from all previous levels and can stay top 10 in the game, I don't really care about the guy who can kill me every time he aims at me. It actually makes me laugh at the guy playing so hard (may be he's not at all) move like a ping-pong ball to avoid being shot, yet he can kill everyone while doing the dance. That's just amazing to me and make me feel sad about the guy actually has the need to play the game that way and be proud to be the number one at the end of that match with 50% more kills than the second person with only half the deaths than number two. I guess that's what keeps them come back to the game to show off to the others how it's done. Online games came a long way (did I mention that I saw way too many running around in Delta Force/Land Warriors days) and yet have a longer way to go for people 35 and older. Yeah, believe me, there are plenty 40 and older people still play video games.

Rent this first., 2 Jan 2010

Okay I rented this game with Borderlands. I didn't play Resistance 1, but I saw the trailer for this and really REALLY wanted to like this. I started playing this thinking, "Man.. I'm gonna buy this!" But then slowly after that... I lost interest in this game and got more and more frustrated with it.

Graphics- Just okay, nothing spectacular. On the cover you see a yellow sky. When you get the scene with that sky in the game it is absolutely beautiful. But scenes like that are very FAR and inbetween. For the majority of the game there is nothing special about the graphics or scenery at all.

Enemies- There are some enemies that attack you and kill you with one shot. That is not a big deal but the thing is this happens unexpectedly a lot and this forces you to do a lot of trial and error to figure out what to do because you die from hidden or invisible enemies. This isn't fun. Also the death sequence is not short and it never varies, which makes it even more frustrating... not fun. Also, you run across the same enemies a lot. Not much variety.

The bosses are big and bad, that's cool. But they don't FEEL very threatening or special. Some are epic but some are just big but somewhat boring.

Weapons- Okay here is my biggest issue with this game. The weapons are NOT interesting at all. They are basic and VERY FEW OPTIONS. Seriously, there are like 4 main weapons to pick from. I felt like there was no real need to change most of the time. It just made things boring. They only give you something special right before a boss or before you need to do some special task. Come on Insomniac! You can do better than this!

Health- You get hit, there shines red on the screen, you take cover til you hear "Phew", then continue. This is boring to me. I would much rather have heath kits than this as this ads some edge to the game play.

Story- Not bad, but not that interesting either. It is just... meh. I found myself slowly losing interest in pushing forward. At first I really wanted to see what was going to happen, but slowly I found I was just doing it to get my rental monies worth despite the frustrations.

Multiplayer Online- I don't like doing multiplayer so I have no review on this part. If you like that then this may be the game for you.

After a while I just didn't care to continue the story and put Borderlands back in. Borderlands left me wanting to play more. While Resistance2 just let me wanting to take it back to Blockbuster.

It doesn't SUCK by any means, but it's just not all that appealing either. Not worth the price they are asking for it, though after this rental I think I won't be playing this again.

This game sucks, 30 Dec 2009

I just rented this game and played the single player campaign for a few hours. I really liked the first Resistance game, but this one is a huge disappointment. Its biggest problem is that it's not fun, it's just frustrating. There are some really crazy enemies that can kill you quickly but take forever to kill, and I just didn't really enjoy playing this game. As I said, I play a lot of FPS games, but this one together with Killzone 2 are really terrible to say the least. It looks terrible in today's standards, nothing special about the level design or the environment, and it's not even FUN. A good game has to be fun to play. I only rented the game so I am not too mad, but ask yourself this question before spending your hard earned money on this game: Do I want to play something that's frustrating and boring, even if it's free?

All they had to do was copy what they did perfectly the first time., 30 Dec 2009

Back in 2006 Resistance: Fall of Man was the first videogame that I had played in nearly 15 years, after selling my 1st generation Playstation so that I could focus more on my studies. My nights and evenings rapidly sunk back into a gamer lifestyle with more than one Friday night spent in front of the screen instead of in bed. I was addicted and I still think the game one of the funnest I've ever played. So, you can imagine my eagerness to pick up the sequel and my disappointment in finding that the designers seemed to go out of their way to make the game less fun to play. While the new locations are great, the graphics themselves aren't on par with the original. The maps are too limiting as to where you can move, similar to Call of Duty 3, but not quite that bad. The checkpoints aren't that sensibly placed. There are too many aggravatingly useless soldiers constantly getting in your way, yet never serving a purpose (their shooting is ineffective and they don't draw the enemies fire either, as if everyone is invisible except you - it's pretty silly watching the enemy run right through a wall of soldiers to go after you). With the first Resistance you gradually collected an arsenal of weapons that you kept throughout the campaign. With this one you're limited to carrying only a couple at a time, each level dictating which you can choose. There are further inconsistencies with how difficult it is to kill some of the larger beasts as well.

Being such a huge fan of the first, I still enjoyed playing this one for the new locations. But, aside from a few new weapons that are pretty fun, they didn't get much right. I don't know anything about videogame design. Maybe Insomniac skimped on the budget, content in exploiting the established fanbase. Or maybe this fits the cliche of simple inexperience or an overly ambitious effort to fix what wasn't broken. If they had left the gameplay alone, I could better accept the inferior graphics. But as it is, after playing through the story mode a few times, I decided to sell this one. I'll have to content myself with the first, in hopes that they'll redeem themselves with another sequel down the road.

Great game and great story, 24 Dec 2009

This is a great game , has a great story you dont need to have resistance 1 i dont have it and still loved this game and now i want resistance 1 to know some more about the beggining of this game and now i am waiting and hoping that they realese resistance 3 soon i am beggining to think it is going to take place in mexico and south america with the mayans things and all that stuff i dont know why the story to me leads to that.

Campaign mode is great to play when alone at night you can get really scared sometimes in some parts of game.

Online cooperative mode is great too you play missions (not campaign) with 7 other people you can play splitcreen with a friend and go online to play with 6 more people in cooperative , and with 78 more people in competitive mode no missions but its like a big war of humans vs chimeras.

If you know when resistance 3 is coming out or something about where is going to take place that story msg me please.

    Resistance 2, 11 Dec 2009

Resistance 2 is a visually stunning game and a highly entertaining game.

The game took me 13 hours on normal and it was a fantastic experience.

Resistance 2 was my first shooter for the ps3 and is one of the best shooters currently available.

The levels are varied and differ in difficulty, you do battle in various countries and environments from inside buildings to spaceships and to the jungle.

There are a lot of achievements/trophies for this game also for those of you that like to collect the trophies.

You really owe it to yourself to get this game.

Even if you haven`t played the first game in the series either buy that first or just jump straight into this game you will not be disappointed.

    An all round fantastic game.

Don;t expect the same co-op experience as the first one, 6 Dec 2009

The fact is I loved the first Resistance because me and my 12 year old daughter could play co-op through the whole game. I ordered this one because I just figured it would have the same game experience as the first. It does not. The local co-op game is hard to even figure out how to get too and is way too hard on the easiest level for my daughter and I to play. Plus there is no way to do local co-op through the story mode. I think this one is made more more online multi-player rather than local. So if you are looking for a local co-op game the best thing you could do is to get something else.

Below expectations a downgrade to original gama=COD, 23 Nov 2009

Although this game boasts better graphics and larger variety of weapons, it simply fails in one thing horribly, THIS GAME BECAME LIKE CALL OF DUTY

AND I DONT LIKE CALL OF DUTY !!!!!! OK

i loved this game because it was not like call of duty, You could hold over 6 weapons making your approach to the enemy more strategic, and now the game only lets you hold 2 weps, WTF. i dont want to pick 2 weapons now only when i could have over 8. the health generation system is from call of duty as well, and when you reach from point a to point b with full health it shows the skill inyourself. however if you have health regeneration you can just hide in the corner attack 1 beast out of 10, kill the beast regenarte REPEAT PROCESS AND finish the game, CALL OF DUTY CRAPWARE. i thought this was a good exclusive but its just a downgrade from resistance 1 where it was more a like doom games.

DOOM GAMES>CALL OF DUTY GAMES=in my opinion

If you like call of duty then buy this you are gonna like it because the gameplay seems very familiar to me. If not then dont buy it because its just gonna bug you down and you would rather watch to tv or lay at the couch instead of playing it. Thats what i do.

The First one was better, 12 Nov 2009

Just finished playing this game. I enjoyed how you have a larger variety of new weapons to pick from & the challenge. But one of the things i miss most about the 1st Resistance game is that your character has the option/capacity of carrying a lot more then 2 weapons at a time. A other thing i enjoyed about the said game is that it was a narrative game. Which in my opinion made the 1st game a lot of fun. But i do wonder what they are going to do with the Resistance franchisee now after the events in this game.

    Don't waste your money, 9 Nov 2009

I played this game for a few hours before I decided it wasn't worth my time. That's pretty bad considering I love video games. I found the storyline to be poorly written. I had a really hard time trying to figure out what I was supposed to do.. not because it was challenging, but because it wasn't intuitive. Some objects that I was supposed to shoot highlighted my guns curser red when I highlighted over enemy's when some didn't. It was completely random and poorly written. The characters in the story tried to tell you what to do, but they all mumbled and were hard to hear. (my speakers work great by the way)

Honestly, I don't think I would buy this game again if it was on sale for $5. Not worth you money, try any of the Call Of Duty games or any of they Battlefield games. There so much better.

Don't waste your money on this.

Really good game, but..., 7 Nov 2009

The first Resistance game was actually better. I'm not sure why, but this game feels like it only has three quarters of what the first game had. Don't get me wrong, it's still an awesome game, but the first Resistance was way ahead of it's time and quite possibly still could be. Overall, R2 is still worth the price.

Great Game, glad I got it off Amazon, 5 Nov 2009

This game is great. I played the first Resistance, and absolutely loved it. I just recently got this, and after playing through a couple levels, I can honestly say it's one of the best shooters I've ever played. Great graphics, amazing gameplay, and the story seems to be pretty good so far as well. Also arrived in great condition, I couldn't even tell it had been used before me. So overall, a must buy game for anyone who's a fan of shooters and owns a PS3.

Not as good as Resistance Fall of Man, 15 Oct 2009

I was disappointed with this sequel. Unfortunately it is let down by any form of cohesive storyline and instead you are whisked from one scenario to another. The gameplay is familiar but if you have played the original then you will find this game predictable, repetitive and ultimately unrewarding.

    Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!, 31 Aug 2009

One of the best games I have ever played, honestly! You start as a soldier for the Blackwatch, a well trained American force.

The story is'nt brilliant and could be better but the gameplay is so fun. It's a first person shooter (FPS) and is easily one of the best available. You have access to all sorts of inventive weapons from your average machine gun to a greanade that explodes in hundreds of long sharp spikes in all sorts of directions.

The enemies are well varied aswell and become stronger as you progress through the game.

It is hard, its not an easy game but it isn't overly difficult, its just perfect. However it wasn't the campaign that made it brilliant, it was the online mode. Flippin Hell it was adictive, it was so fun playing a death match with 20 other people and team death match could be really epic, up to 60 players! If you like quick fire shooters then you really should check this game out, but be warned, when I look back, it's an 18 for a reason.

    Resistance 2, 31 Aug 2009

I enjoyed this game alot, although some points of it are frustrating. I think the biggest pain is you can only carry two weapons and even though that is more realistic, it's not as much fun. In the first game you could carry up to 8/10 weapons at once, which gave you a massive choice of what to blow the enemy to bits with. Having just two weapons with limit ammo is a problem especially when you run out. But the graphics on this game are truly amazing. The detail alone is shockingly good, even down to the bark on the trees, the clouds, the grass, and of course the detail of every building you walk into. I did find a few times that when there is a lot of action going on, it's hard to work out whats going on but then if I was caught in that situation for real I guess I would find it hard to work out too.

Over all, I would say this game is a must, as you should keep playing to tell the story of Nathan Hale!

Not a great sequel to the first game, not the best graphics i would have expected from ps3 and the new control setup is a very strange when they could have just kept the same controls from the old game. Overall quite disapointed.

Split Screen Not Like original, 27 Jul 2009

The first game was great. I bought it purely so I could play split screen with my son.

The second game, though having split screen is NOT like the first. You CANNOT play the main campaign in co-op together, you can only play seperate additional levels off and on line.

Absolutely superb - more than a worthy sequel!, 26 Jul 2009

An absolutely stunning game. Insomniac have done well to maintain the level of atmosphere and suspense from the first game, but have also introduced much refreshment. The graphics are greatly improved (absolutely stunning!), as is the AI of both enemies and allies, and there is an altogether more 'hands-on' feel to the gameplay.

The story-line is more involving than Fall of Man, and wraps up some loose ends (ever wonder about the Cloven?). There is also more speech and general interaction between Hale and the team, which gives an altogether more immersed experience. For example, at points, you are guided through a section over your radio, and told how to avoid patrols etc.

Altogether, I was very impressed. Disappointed to have finished it today! This is a must have for any fan of FPS games, or indeed any PS3 gamer!

    Good fun, 13 Jul 2009

This isn't the best, most creative, a master work in story telling, original, artistic or memorable game in the world. But after finishing it I have to say that it was allot of fun. The controls worked well and the graphics were of a high standard. It's just an unashamed big budget action game, and it does it very well. If you have had your fill of that genre then it won't offer you anything.

Online was solid..., 12 Jul 2009

    ONLINE:

Had this game since day one and still think its one of the best online games around.

BUT, as of late I have not been enjoying it as much. If anything, it offers frustration and tension than fun,

Reason being with all the glitching that goes on and those Rapid fire controllers that most people are using these days.

One of the annoying weapons on this game has to be the Wraith which technically has no competition that can counter attack it. So the worse scenario would be going against a team who just hogs that gun topped up with Laarks or Pulse cannons Berserks..also for me it has too many one hit kills which i find takes away the skill side of battling.

Like I said its a great game but personally its come to its sell by date no thanks to the cheating that goes on and the few patches that we've had.

Cod 6 Im hoping will just take me away from R2 for good.

    When is 3 coming?, 4 Jul 2009

Fall of Man was good. This is GREAT. Better re-generation. More characters and enemies. And the boss battles...worth the price alone! The story is not as good as the first and the revelations less shocking but all in all it's a vast improvement on an already excellent recipy.

I got this the day it came out (pre-ordered it after finishing FOM) and played it through as fast as I could. Then went looking for a release date for 3. I hate FPSs generally and should have hated this but it's just too good to dislike. I would genuinely say this is in my top 5 all time, and it is a game I would normally expect to hate.

If I can have one complaint it is that the game is is too seamless. Weird complaint I know but I found it difficult to know when was a good time to save and stop. The plot and the game are so in-sync that it is tough to put down...Strange complaint but a "would you like to save?" pop-up would have helped. A tiny fly in an otherwise almost flawless ointment.

Now, when is three coming out?

Really enjoying playing this game, i've not played the original so can't compare. The graphics and sound are very good. There is always lots going on with some make you jump moments.I've found 1 or 2 of the levels to be a lot harder than others to the point where I was starting to get frustrated but a bit of perseverence got me through eventually. If you like shooters then you should enjoy this.

    Mediocre, 1 Jun 2009

So, having played the first in the series, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I was expecting this sequel to be as good, however, it disappointed for several reasons...

First, the good. There's no stupid tutorial. You are thrown straight into the action, picking things up as you go, which is how a game should be. The single player story is a brilliant continuation to the first, although I can see how it could possibly be a touch confusing at times if you don't follow it as you play, and the graphics are grotesque and superb, bursting with colour, though if you are a fan of the original, this might not be to your liking, which was grey, oppressive and dark. Some new weapons, enemies, and locations, as well as some epic, well-executed boss battles make the single player campaign a joy, if rather short. The one setback, and unfortunately it is a BIG one, is that the weapon wheel from the first game is gone, and they have adopted a weapon system similar to that of Halo, carry one weapon in reserve while the other is held. To be honest, I feel this completely eliminates choosing a weapon to fit a situation and instead reduces the use of weapons to a fatal game of heads or tails.

Now for all the bad... There is no co-op campaign, instead this has been replaced with a co-op mode, which can't really be played offline, it has to be done online. Secondly, this is mind-numbingly boring, a couple of plays is ok, but other than that, the so-called "new tactics" it introduces seem to evaporate, and you are left smashing your face into the ground thinking that, not only are you wasting your time with the co-op, but you actually PAID for it as well. Oops, silly you.

The online competitive is the same as any other game, either you like it, or you don't. Absolutely nothing new here really, except to get most of the upgrades, through leveling-up, is a massive grind that doesn't even require skill (although, being good at it DOES make it considerably more bearable).

Also, another bad point, although minor, is the voice actor (who played Nathan Hale in the first) has been changed to one who really doesn't suit the part.

As a result, whilst the single player campaign was enjoyable, the rest of it wasn't, and a short campaign is neither worth the money spent on this, nor does it make up for the misgivings this game has. In addition, although this shouldn't really be a factor in my rating, this game doesn't come close to being as good as the first. Hence the 2 stars.

EMENCE AND ADDICTIVE, 22 May 2009

I highly recommend playing this game (!but only after completion of 'resistance-fall of man' as R-2 carries on where it left off.) this game has many new challenges from the first game, including a greater range of 'chimera' enemies to contend with. Great graphics and easy to master controls make you appreciate the gameplay of resistance2.

    enjoy!...

    Great game but slightly annoying . . ., 5 May 2009

The campaign is great, with varied missions, and loads of different bosses to defeat. At times you can get stuck on a level after getting lost and not knowing which way to go. The multiplayer deathmatches are fun but a little repetitive, as with any deathmatch. The game really comes into its own in the multiplayer campaign with up to eight players. The three different classes however are varied but there are not enough weapon options until higher levels. Also, the classes take hours on end to level-up and this gets very boring and unsatisfying.

Not bad, a little disappointing, 1 May 2009

Having really enjoyed the first one this sequal is a bit disappointing, the "realistic" limit on weapons carried is an annoying limitation of what you can do in different areas. The way health is done is not as good. The graphics are not quite as good. The whole story is just not as good or interesting and in a lot of areas it feels very limiting. There are some mind numbingly boring bits, such as with the Swarm. The original just felt more enjoyable, so if you don't have either then buy the original.

Having said that, it's not a bad bit of entertainment and the co-op online stuff is really excellent, I'm quite addicted to that now.
