This was a fun game. It very much had the feel of Return to Wolfenstien.
Online servers are pretty much a graveyard, but I expected that for a game this aged.
I really enjoyed this an hope they come out with another one.

RE5 has gotten some flak for being, essentially, RESIDENT EVIL 4 part 2. True, there are some very clear debts owed to RE4 in this game, and several boss fights, especially, feel derivative. But if you come to a video game for (a) sick graphics and (b) characters you can truly sink your teeth into, RE5 is a damn joyous experience. NOTHING out there can compare to the overall graphic artfulness of RE5, the gorgeous renderings of light and shadow, and the realism of facial expressions in cutscenes. Huge improvements have been made on the melee system . . . something in me wishes I could've seen Leon with this much as*-kicking potential. MERCENARIES and MERCS REUNION add great depth and replay value; overall, I've never returned to a game as often as I do this one; I'm embarrassed to post my 'hours spent playing' stat. Games like UNCHARTED can't hold a candle to RE5 for characterization . . . who the hell wants to play a willowy dude that looks like Joey from FRIENDS? If, as the producers have said, the next RE title will be 'a complete reboot,' this was the way to go out. Redfield, Sheva, Jill, Wesker, that's my people, and I love them most here.

If this is anything like Rez Evil 4.......count me in for five stars when I update this later.
Rez Evil 4 isn't really the 4th! AND this isn't really the fifth. Now if you count 'em, I've got Rez Evil 1, Directors Cut(does that count?), Rez Evil 2, Rez Evil3: Nemesis, Rez Evil: Survivor, Rez Evil: Code V', Rez Evil Outbreak: Files 1+2(do I count file2 as one?), Rez Evil 4, and this one, which makes 7,8 or 9 for the 5th?? It's not even close to a correct count. All are classics in gaming history, OK, except the Outbreak series, which thought was tediously boring. Survivor was a little lame too.
Well, just play it as Nike says.

When I finished playing the Resident Evil 4, I was hoping that a sequel would soon follow. Waiting for a few years and finally Resident Evil 5 is here. In my personal opinion, this is the most intense and the best Resident Evil game in terms of graphics, sound effects, and background music. As you can see, there are lots of talents involved while making this game including the orchestral Studios with a 103-piece ensemble of the Hollywood Studio Symphony. I have no remorse when I bought this game and I love the excellent graphics along with the amazing processing power of Play Station 3 in slim version. This is another home run for capcom and director Yasuhiro Anpo and Jun Takeuchi are truly the masters when it comes to creating suspense and horror games such as the Resident Evil 4 and 5. Japan is truly the melting pot of electronics and video games. Thanks Mr. Takeuchi for an awesome game. This is a great game for the PS3 and looking forward for the next sequel. Hopefully. If you love the previous Resident Evil games, then you will surely want to buy this because the selections of huge guns are inevitable and overwhelming.

Firstly I thought this game was excellent!! I have played it right through to the platinum trophie TWICE... the Lost In Nightmares bonus mission was great fun and shadowed previous Resident Evils, the versus mode is great fun, alot of fast paced action on a choice of great maps. The game itself is great, it takes about 4 or 5 playthroughs to earn the platinum trophy but this is one game where the platinum is realisticly obtainable. The graphics are good and I really enjoyed it.

I played this game on the Normal Mode and it was really really easy. And WAY too short!
Just when I thought I maybe reached the half way mark, the end credits started to roll.
Pretty disappointing.
I didn't care much for the environment in this game as much as other Resident Evil games where you are in a mansion or a cruise ship, etc.
A lot of the time the environment was bright and therefore less creepy.
I didn't find the monsters/zombies very scary or intimidating.
When I purchase and play these kinds of games, my #1 hope is to be SCARED SCARED SCARED.
And I really wasn't.
Also, I must say....sometimes having Sheva as a partner really sucked. She often didn't get out of the way of danger or take cover when she should have. This wouldn't have been such a big deal except if Sheva dies, you basically die and have to start over. I hated protecting and helping her when I had my own back to watch. But don't get me wrong, she comes in handy a lot too espcially with how you can swap ammo and weapons, and she resucitates you when you are near death. But still...there are times.....
I thought the whole "getting the player involved in the cinema scenes" was kind of cheesy. But that's just me.
This game was OK. Should have been longer and more challenging. AND SCARY!

I have never played any Resident Evil games before. People have told me that I would not find this one as gripping as any of the others. I have to say, if the other games are as atmospheric as I've been told, then this is the black sheep of the collection. I played this game with the express intention of finishing it over a weekend. With that constraint, I found this a frustating, but ultimately enjoyable romp. The only criticisms I have are that there are too many bosses and in every level you have to shoot all the time. I smarter shooters it is possible to sneak round unnoticed, but not Resi 5.
On a plus the game flits between survival horror, Drake's Fortune and Call of Duty. I would have to recommend this as a shooter rather than a horror. But this has been a perfect gauntlet for me to get through on a weekend and I highly recommend it!

My review is based on having beaten the game once on single player. I have not played any previous R.E. titles.
This is a great game that is marred by some of the most annoying and frustrating game-play mechanics I have ever seen. Despite that, I ended up enjoying it, and it's well worth the $30 being charged for it at the time I'm writing this.
But first, be warned of the annoyances! The developers deliberately built in some "challenges" that are not related to actual skill, but more based on the limitations of the control system and other weaknesses of the game-play mechanics. For example, your character moves very S-L-O-W-L-Y. He can run, but it's more like a casual jog. Added to this is the way you spin your character around to face flanking enemies. Rather than the character turning, the ENTIRE GAME WORLD (camera) turns instead, and it does this also S-L-O-W-L-Y. These things would be forgivable, but Capcom decided to make these part of the "challenge" of certain parts of the game. Especially on the last boss fight. The entire game feels like a polished gem in the hands of the artists and level designers and programmers, but then some Capcom executive came in and said "I know what gamers like. Make the character move slow to build tension. And slow that camera down as well." Yeah, we LOVE that crap...
The camera movement gave me a massive headache the first day I played. Added to this is the tiny, and I mean TINY aiming reticule. It's like 1 pixel x 1 pixel and became another headache-inducing element from the strain of focusing on such a tiny dot.
Finally, worst of all, are the "quicktime events" that pepper the whole game. You're focused on whatever is going on when suddenly and unexpectedly an icon of one of your controller's button appears on the screen for a SPLIT SECOND and if you don't press it, you die. Every time this happened I felt conned. There is no way you can react in time unless you've already played that part, which you will, because you WILL die and play it over. This has got to be the laziest way of creating "challenge" in a game by developers I've ever seen. Please stop this nonsense immediately!
Another thing I found annoying was the lack of health meters on enemies. You never know when your foe is close to death, and some enemies take forever to go down. Many times I was left thinking "Am I using the right ammo? Multiple point-blank shotgun blasts to the face and still this b**** keeps coming at me? WTF?!?
Anyway, despite these controller-throwing aggravations, the game is still an amazing, intense thrill-ride. I've played a lot of games in the past 10 years and this is one of the greats in terms of production values, graphics and level design. You are constantly moving to new arenas and scenery, which keeps the game interesting. The weapon upgrading system is fun, as are the little extra bonuses you can get after you beat the game, which are a great incentive to play again. I have not tried the co-op multiplayer yet, but aim to do so on my next playthrough. Some of the battles are the most intense I've ever played in a video game and the bosses look AMAZING! Kudos to the artists and designers. This game has some of the coolest explosions I've ever seen! And the great lighting makes them even cooler. The story is also pretty good, although you've heard it before...
So in summary, buy this game for an intense, (mostly) fun thrill-ride. At $30, it is a gaming bargain.

loved RE4 very much and was looking forwards to RE5 , the build up to it's release promised a game that would upset the politicaly correct crowd which interested me but depspite being set in Africa or Haiti or wherever they eventually decided to water down the black zombies with 50 % Spanish ones. Interesting, but not really important to gameplay. The graphics are very good, movement and shooting are ok, similar to RE4, unfortunately with this game you can't pause it and sort your inventory out, so the feel of gameplay has changed in that respect and in my opinion for the worse. You have this sheva woman with you for much of the game , she doesn't really add anything and if anything affects the atmosphere negatively. When i played RE4 i felt that i was in a world of horror and intruige with it's own sence of place with RE5 i feel like i'm playing through a few disconnected multiplayer maps/arenas. What there is looks very good, but it failed to immerse me in a world. It is short and nowhere near as good as RE4.

I absolutely loved resident evil 4 but 5 is very disappointing. The graphics move really slow and it just isnt that much fun. I really wish they would come out with an extention of resident evil 4. I would pay double just to have it. Video games are a nice diversion from an otherwise stressful life

Well I bought this for my best cousin and I have ever regretted buying this.. He plays constantly..AM glad that he love his gift and everything but gosh its an everyday thing with this game..He loves it.I cant really say how good it is as I am not a big fan of video games but I watch him and his friends play it all the time and they love it.

I would rate this game higher if Capcom made it more fun to play. The graphics on this game are very nice. They use fantastic lighting to accentuate the various locations that you find yourself in during the course of the game. Also the lighting does create the mood of the game as it does in most horror related media. I kinda wished that they rendered the game in 1080p instead of 720p, but the upconversion wasn't really noticable during gameplay. The audio was good as well; it supported full 5.1 sound and this made it fun to play since you can hear the infected zombies all around you. Shooting enemies was also satisfying since they reacted to where you shot them, and actually stopped moving after you riddled them with pistol rounds. Plot was good enough for me to keep playing, and I enjoyed getting a break from the tedious gameplay to watch a cut scene or hit the triangle button a million times to run from things. I did like the item strategy that you had to use through out the game, since you really had to focus on things you needed and things that weren't necessary. Ammo management was crucial too.
Things I didn't like were the fact that you can't move when you shoot. If there's a really dumb idea for a 3rd person shooting game that would take the cake. Secondly, I really hated having Sheva with me. Having her on your team was like carrying around a crash-test dummy with you all game. She was a useless hinderance and lead to 60% of my deaths.
Overall it was a decent game to play I do recommend that you try it as a rental first to see if you enjoy the game play, and this game will be more difficult to play so don't get discouraged by dying.

I never did get around to finishing this game. The inventory system spoils the action as you try to hunt for the right weapon amongst two inventories. Your partner is more of a hindrance as she cannot prioritise her weapons and can also get in the way. When you get a good weapon like a magnum there is so little ammo for it you cannot use it. And when you get near the end the baddies are just impossible to kill unless you are very lucky and have lots of ammo built up. I won't buy another one in the series or be swayed by star ratings!

Resident Evil was like living a horror film. The tension would grow, making every turn feel scary, every room was full of surprises, and the concept of "survival" was the main backbone of the gameplay. In many situations, the games would make you actually avoid confrontations, due to the lack of healing items and the lack of ammo. This would greatly contribute to the overall "horror" of the games, making you feel as if you were truly fighting for your life.
With the launch of Resident Evil 4, the horror elements were almost completely gone. Replacing "survival" tactics with an over-the-shoulder gun mechanism, very similar to that of Gears of War. The enemy was never hidden, always in clear sight to be shot at, and the game always provided ammo, a gameplay mechanic that shooters use. Replacing the traditional "zombie" enemy with a more human looking variety, the game lost almost all of its tension and fear inducing gameplay. Instead, Resident Evil 4 became an action game, and when compared to already highly regarded franchises within the action/shooter genre, Resident Evil 4 was mediocre in comparison.
Resident Evil 5 plays exactly like its last generation brethren. The horror elements have been toned down even further, now allowing the supposedly "zombie" enemies to use firearms and maneuver vehicles, once again trying to establish the game as a decent shooter/action game. At no point in the game did I experience any high level of tension and I never feared an unexpected enemy onslaught, since neither of these things exist in Resident Evil 5.
The game is still quite good, but it just isn't "Resident Evil". The story follows Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar in Kijuju, Africa. With the addition of another character, the player must monitor Sheva's health at all times, or be greeted by the "game over" screen, resulting in repeated attempts at the same mission. The inventory system has been downgraded from all of the previous games, now only truly allowing the player to substitute items between chapters. Chris was assigned to assist Sheva in the process of stopping a man from selling bio weapons to others on the black market. As they progress further into the local villages, they realize that the civilians who appear normal, have been turned into "monsters" after being force fed parasites. The game features over the top moments, including the confrontation with Wesker which really feels more like it belongs in "The Matrix" rather than Resident Evil.
If you can overlook the lack of horror and survival elements, than Resident Evil 5 is a decent third person shooter. However, it still doesn't hold up very well when compared to other games within the genre such as Uncharted, Gears of War, Dead Space, and Mass Effect. Personally, Gears of War is my favorite franchise of all time, but Resident Evil 5 fails to accomplish the same level of intensity that Gears of War provides. Resident Evil 5 seems to be confused about its identity; wanting to be both an action game and a horror game, yet not providing enough horror to be classified as a horror game, and not being as in depth as other action games, RE5 gets lost in the shuffle. If you're looking for a great action game, you can't go wrong with any of the previously mentioned titles. If you're looking for a horror game, stick to games like: Dead Space, F.E.A.R., Condemned, Silent Hill, and possibly Bioshock.

I originally purhcased the game for PS3 because i was buying every 3rd party title for 360 because they looked better and wanted to see how this one faired up. Well i was impressed UNTIL i downloaded the demo on xbox to compare to the game on PS3. Well to my dismay this version looked very uncolorful, washed out, was extremely laggy with terrible frame rate drops during large zombie attacks and certain areas with heavy water and foilage. The game itself is great, although being a team can be a big tedious sometimes it adds a great new twist to the adventure. I took the PS3 version back got store credit which was still a lot and got it for xbox, played all the way through and defeated it no sweat, well a little sweat in some areas ha. The game is not what i would call HARD, but can be a lil difficult in some areas. The PC version looks totally incredible(hense why that version was up for best graphics) and the 360 wasn't far behind. So overall this game is great, just don't get "this" version its plagued with many bugs, not that its unplayable or anything but just not as impressive as the other two. Why am i writing this a year after the games release, not sure, it popped in my head so i just woke up and wrote it lol. Go figure. Get it for what system you want no matter what I say, not swaying anyone, just what my experience was. Its still the same ole resident evil(although nothing beats 4), its just short and sweet, almost to short. One of the coolest things to happen to me in any game happned in this, i was getting ready to bend over to pic up ammo, Sheva was behind me, as SOON as i bent over one of the archman zombies shot a flaming arrow, so i was bent down and it hit her instead of me!! HA. You had to be there, see it, was GREAT, was just like a split second, and very real life. So play on! Can't wait for 6 i hope its spookier like 4, btw the in Nightmares demo is great, just way to short.

I'm not going to write a long review, but if you're a fan of resident evil then buy this game. If your just looking for a shooting game to beat rent this game. I didn't care for this game at all. I beat this game and it wasn't even hard. This game really isn't worth it to be honest.

I have played a majority of the Resident Evil games over the past many years, going back to the original ones...
Ok its not exactly the same but i found it a great game to play and thoughly enjoyed killing all the bosses and im glad they kept alot of things in there like green and red herb etc.
Your partner (the chick, sorry cant remember her name) can be a little anyoying at times shouting things like...YOU CANT BE SERIOUS and ROGER!!! and she always seems to get right in the way when you are about to unleash a rocket or a barrel of bullets into a zombie!
But all in all i found this game great and i would def recommend it to anyone....only thing it lacked for me was....STARS!!!!!
Enjoy

I've just completed Resident Evil 5 for the first time, a little over 12 hours I think. The game was a lot of fun to play and very intense. Unfortunately, the game has gotten a lot of negative press and reviews. I personally liked most of what the game had to offer and think at time reviewers could be a little less critical of good titles.
There are some facts that come in to play with RE 5.
Fact #1: This is not a survival horror game, like RE 0, 1, 2 etc. Its more Action, but very intense action. I'm a huge fan of the RE series and I still enjoyed the Action slant.
Fact #2: Not pausing the game for inventory makes playing intense. I hear a lot of people complaining about this feature. I don't know why. When you have hordes of enemies coming at you and you're low on health and need to reload all your guns and you don't know if you have a grenade or if your partner's got it - I guarantee your heart will be pounding. Not getting to pause the game and instantly heal yourself, arrange your inventory, reload all your weapons - it goes a long way to create an intense playing experience.
I for one loved getting chased my chainsaw wielding zombies while trying to limp far enough away to find a grenade to chuck at them.
Fact #3: Capcom isn't racist. The scene is Africa, there are both modern and what I'll call tribal Africans in the game that you have to kill, maim, run away from. So why exactly is that racist? You have the ability to stomp on fallen zombies...just like you have in just about every other RE game. I really think people need to take a step back and consider that we're talking about a zombie game. A game about killing infected zombies. The fact that RE 5 was plagued with negative press for racism just seems ignorant and trite.
Overall, the game is great. There's nothing like killing zombies, even ones that can wield rocket launchers. I got really annoyed with my AI partner, but I have to have something to yell at so it might as well have been Sheva. The replay value is there, with lots of goodies to unlock, weapons to upgrade, scores to reach, etc. And of course there's trophies! This is a great looking game that has a nice feel and some good quality game play. The puzzles are pretty light so I'm going back through the first RE on gamecube to get my fix. After that I'll probably go through RE 5 again :)
Source: [amazon.com]
It's hard for me to fathom how someone can not love this game if you enjoy the RE series or are into the horror genre. Reading some of the negative reviews, yes it would be nice to be able to carry a few more items. I liked in RE4 that you were able to upgrade your suitcase as you went along so you could carry more items. I wish they would have implemented that in RE5. Yes, the game play is similar to RE4, should it not be? RE4 was an awesome game for the PS2 (I actually played it on the Cube), so I think Capcom did the right thing by not changing too much for RE5. The setting changes from Spain to Africa, so of course the environments change, but the game play and feel is virtually unchanged from RE4. Personally, I liked that. Really I have no complaints of this game that would have me rate it anything less than 5 stars. The game was not too difficult on the normal setting though it of course got more challenging in the last chapter, as expected. Personally, a minor critique is that in RE4 there were little side games you got to play while you were doing the main game - remember the shooting galleries? Those were fun, and I wish they would have done that in RE5 too. But what I liked better about RE5 is I thought the whole RE story comes much more into focus in RE5 and I really liked the addition of the Tricell company and that whole angle. Some of the research/labs sets were awesome!
And I was surprised there were so many complaints about the AI for Sheeva. I have played many other games where the AI was just awful (I love the SOCOM series, but can't tell you how many times those fools in Bravo company wouldn't budge when I gave them an order or they'd get stuck trying to walk into a tree!), and I found Sheeva quite helpful on a few occasions. In fact, I think she saved me more than I saved her!
I take people's point about the series moving from being more focused on horror to action. I didn't play all of the earlier games, but I did play RE-0 and I agree that was a creepier game than RE4 or RE5. However, I feel as though whatever the series lost in creepiness, it more than makes up for in action & a well-developed storyline.
Not much you can say about the graphics except WOW! This was my first game played on the PS3 and what an upgrade from the PS2! Fantastic. If you have enjoyed the RE series in the past you should love this one too.
Re: The Mercenaries (unlockable game): The Mercenaries was also featured in RE4 and is brought back here for RE5. I love this game maybe even more than the main game! It's a very familiar format to RE4 with some different characters. I recommend you purchase the extra chapter for RE5, "Lost in Nightmares" - this will not only get you an extra chapter to play in the RE5 game (it's where Chris & Jill go to the Spencer mansion and confront Wesker), but it will also get you an alternate version of Mercenaries called "Mercenaries Reunion" with characters Excella and Barry (leader of Alpha team). You can also purchase Character Pack I and II for $1.99 each on the PS Network and pick up additional costumes for Chris & Sheeva. The Lost in Nightmares is $5.

Resident Evil 5 is by far the most conceptually inept game I have had the misfortune to play. The storyline is cliched, the lines are corny and the controls, targeting, weapon changes and movements are to say the least sluggish. The gameplay is hampered by a constant shortage of ammo for anything bigger than a handgun and some of the stages have ridiculous sequences which involve the furious pummelling of different buttons. The instructions for these appear very briefly on screen during 'the action', where said successful pumelling helps to progress you through yet another pointless sequence before finally being allowed to move on. The main character Chris has such unfeasibly huge arms they make Arnold Shwarznegger look like a girl and his stupid buddy assistant Sheva decides to stand in your way every time you want to fire your weapon or get out of trouble. She only seems to be able to use the pistol most of the time and is in effect only good for carrying first aid sprays and herbs. I did not finish this game, i got to the last bit and got so bored, fed up and frustrated I called it a day and this is a first for me, I always finish a game as a matter of principle even if I don't particularly like it. Take my advice save your money and buy something else, anything else,a cardigan, a scarf, a boxed set of Coronation St, The Glory Years or the Poultry Farmers Gazzette. Resident Evil 5 lacks the performance we have a right to expect from a game. Think about this before you part with your readies whether hard earned or dole money, don't do it.I wish i had played this earlier so I could have warned more people. aargh!!!!! Time is a great healer so I'm told. Resident Evil 5 'Free to good home.

I bought this to play in split-screen co-op mode with my gf. We found it too difficult and too gory. It was just not any fun at all for us.
I suggest Resistance 1 Fall of Man, Rainbow 6 Vegas. Army of Two was OK.
I wish there were more games that offer side-by-side split-screen co-op mode for the campaign.

I usually prefer to read or play outside to video games, so I put off getting a PS3 because I knew i would get addicted and waste too much time. I saw that RE5 was coming out and thought "If one thing was to convince me to get a PS3..." Well, i finally decided to bite the bullet and purchased a PS3 and RE5, and I have not been disappointed. All in all, it isn't as good as RE4 (I could go into detail as to why, but lets just leave it at that) but obviously the graphics are better and some of the other differences are better as well. ok, i'm starting to ramble...
Chris & Sheva - it was weird at first having some AI person following you around and yelling every 5 seconds "OK!!!", but once i got used to it, i really enjoyed that aspect of the game.
no "run and gun" - one of the biggest complaints by most people. sometimes it sucks, but you get used to it, and after playing Dead Space and Uncharted (which are almost as good) - I have come to garner respect for the increased difficulty with this aspect...I also enjoy the increased accuracy that comes with this, when you are fighting Zombies, headshots are key!
What really makes this game so great is its depth. Uncharted is great, but there's not a whole lot to it, you just follow the story, jump around like a monkey and shoot a lot of people. In RE5, every single opponent has a different optimal strategy (type of weapon, place to shoot them, etc) to beat, I like puzzles, some people don't but having a boss where you just shoot him a bunch of times isn't much fun for me, having a boss where you have to devise a strategy, shoot him in one place, then switch weapons to shoot him in his true vulnerability, thats where its at!
Anyway, great game, the Gold standard I hold every other game to. Dead Space was pretty close. Uncharted 1 was not too bad. Resistance 2 was pretty boring for me. I'm looking forward to the new DLCs coming out next month and Dead Space 2, hopefully I can find a few others that are similar to this, though I know none will be able to surpass.

I am not a serious gamer and this is one of the first games I have played on ps3. I am a huge horror fan and loved playing horror games on my playstation 1 and xbox. I played the original resident evil on my playstation and I think I remember enjoying it. Its been so long. This one on the otherhand was just ok. This did not come off as a horror game. It felt like the movie Blood Diamond but the villagers have black eyes. The so called "Zombies" dont come off as zombie-ish and are running around driving cars, etc..etc...I couldnt even tell the majority of them were zombies. It takes place during the day in Africa, so there is no real suspense here. I like my horror games in a dark building or in the dark in general. Like I said, its more of a action game, then horror. So the atmosphere is not that great and in this one you have a computer partner following you around that you can not let die. UGHHH!!! I usually like gaming by myself when I do game (which isnt that much) and this is what really frustrated me. I am sure this would be fun if you have a friend playing with you but if you are playing solo -- they should really just let you play solo. She is constantly taking ammo but you never really see her put that much of an impact on damage. You have to watch out for here as well because if she dies, you die. UGHHH!! If she wasnt involved this might have gotten 3 1/2stars just for entertainment reasons and the graphics alone. The other thing that annoyed me was the limiting inventory. I guess thats how this is in most resident evil games but there were some bosses were the inventory wasnt enough and I had to play more than I wanted.
Anyways, not a bad game visually but just didnt scare me. Its ok for a rent or wait a while until you find it in the bargain bin.

First off I have to say that this game shines the best with me when you have someone else to play along your side. Another player raises the idea of "teamwork" far better then if you allowed the computer to take control as your partner. Like most other people here I find it hard to see this game without a "run & gun" option. To me it would make more sense to have the option but allow the game to adapt to current situations. For example, sometimes it may work out for the best to dig in some area for battle then to run with your guns blazing and finding your self in that "fools rush in" situation. Then again sometimes it may call for a situation to run and blow a path destruction ahead of you.
Yes this game has fingerprints of Resident Evil 4 all over it. Due to this I set my controls based on RE 4. Sheva can be a pain at times but I prefer her over Ashely from RE 4 most all the time. Still I have moments I think Ashely would react like Sheva most of the time if she had a weapon in RE 4!
The game play is decent and the story holds for the most part. That brings me to the part of these new titles for Resident Evil. Now I am not going all the way back to Biohazzard which started it all but to the ps 1 Resident Evil. Now I agree with one writer over here that we did not need an Earth shattering story for RE 5 but the fact it that Resident Evil should have a strong story line. The feel of the game should freak a person out at times too. I do have to say that I was at a loss about the how plaga deal in RE 4 but it fits with RE 5 if you see how Ada recovered the plaga sample in RE 4 for Wesker in "Seperate Ways". Sometimes I think capcom is trying too hard and sometimes too little at their product. I say this because I am a big fan of Resident Evil. Just a side add, the Resident Evil movies don't even do the games justice and shouldn't even be called Resident Evil.
Just like a tv series has trouble keeping a fresh audience over several seasons, I think Resident Evil is facing the same thing. I think someone on here wrote about RE going retro again and right now I think that is a good idea. At RE's pace for just regular foes to fight, it won't be no time till you find yourself fighting only "Nemesis"-like creatures common on the first chapter. I always remember thinking, "It would rock to have two or more players in the first RE and RE 2." Capcom did good with having this option now in RE 5 but I wondering if it is too little too late. I've enjoyed Wesker as a bad guy but I wonder if Capcom is going to bring him back all the time? I like the use of Jill Valentine in the story but I hate it when Capcom leaves big holes in the story line. A good example is RE 4 when Leon talks about Umbrella falling apart and then Capcom makes a sad attempt of explaning that.
I am not saying Capcom should only be doing remakes (but still that would be nice- like when Clare and Leon was in RE 2 and it was updated to ps3 / xbox 360 with co-op). I wonder how many new viruses is there going to be and how long will it hold up? If RE is going to the grave like one writter said, is there going to be a final stand/closing chapter for good? I say that because it is true that the survival horror feeling is being lost with each passing title. Resident Evil is becoming mostly an action series with a story line that is showing its age. Unless something is done, they should give the title, Resident Action.
Over all though, this is a good game but I just look for the nut and bolts that made Resident Evil great. What happens with the terror no longer frightens you? Well, this game is a good edition to anybodies collection. If you are a real fan of Resident Evil you may feel concerns like me but others may find the simple joys of fighting to the end in a good action game. Happy game playing to everyone out there!

***Feedbacks***
I had always had my Eye on Resident Evil 5 but then i started reading alot of negative feedback and hearing that it wasnt worth buying. So i waited until the price fell down, that way if i didnt like it, at least i'd only spend under 30 bucks on it instead of 50 or over. But i really enjoyed myself, the game is addicting and i can play it all day and all night. It just goes to show that you can't really rely on everyone else's feedback. We all have different tastes and experiences when it comes to games and not eveyone is going to like everything. So its best to give it a shot despite what people say about it.
***Gameplay***
I believe the controls are the same as with Leon, including the shooting and Knife method. During the cut-scenes you are required to push the correct buttons at the bottom to avoid death. Your partner is Sheva, she will be with you until the end at all times. Unlike Ashley, Sheva is very valuable, reliable and SMART! What i mean by smart is the fact that she'll knock over the ladder if enemies try to climb up, she'll even set it back up. if you give her the sniper rifle, she's better at perfect aim when it comes to distant enemies. She'll heal you, give you ammo if you have the gun that is consistant with it (she'll take it out of her inventory and put it in yours). The barrels and boxes are in this one too, the only difference is that everytime you find one, you are guaranteed to pick up something. I've found ALOT more items from these places then in RE4.
The graphics, the way they move and facial expressions are excellent! There are a handful or plenty of boss fights, tons of places to go and the gameplay is really long which i like alot! I think it's an extra chapter long then RE4. You will get to drive a speedboat to navigate through the villiages, you'll get to use machine guns/rocket while riding in the back of a truck to help kill off coming motorbike enemies etc. Bascially everything youre doing requires team work.
One of the greastest things i like about the game was finally getting your hands on Wesker and having a showdown with him. He's movements are awesome and i would say he's the second coolest Video game Villian next to Sephiroth (FF7). The bad thing i hate about it is that people say this is the end of Wesker. The guy is just too cool in my opinion, but i also read that we'll have to face one of his siblings in the next resident evil game if i read right.
You can choose which character you want to be but everything such as the item shop window and their health status will be on opposite sides from each other. For example if Chris uses his knife with the left hand, Sheva will use her right hand. so it takes alittle while to get use to.
The two-player option does come in handy ALOT. you can fight boss battles easier by confusing them because with Sheva as a computer, she'll just follow you and stand by your side. but when i was playing with my sister, we kept the boss between us. The chapter completes will be AlOT faster. with sheva on computer, she wont pick up everything available, such as gems and ammo etc. the only thing about playing with someone is that your screen will be split into two horizontally. it does take some time getting use to it but its pretty cool playing with someone.
***BAD THINGS***
1)Sheva does get in the way ALOT and she ends up wasting tons and tons of bullets becuase she gets behind Chris and shoots him in the back, even though she's aiming at an enemy in front them or Chris. Even when Chris is behind her, trying to aim at an enemy, she'll get in the way too. So its like either way, you just can't win! lol. I usually try to stand beside her. But if you accidentally shoot at each other, it doesnt count at all. Their life does not decrease, unless you use a rocket launcher really close. You will kill yourserlf and/or her.
2)One of the most annoying things about this game is the fact that it lured alot of idiots. What i mean by that is, they are trying to turn this game into a racist video game. As we all know RE5 is set in Africa and most of your enemies are black. Okay, I'm a black female, I get it that most people arent use to black people being IN video games and yes i control a white dude name Chris shooting a bunch of black dudes in the head, but does he really have a choice? especially when these black dudes arent in their right minds anymore! Plus he's got a black partner who's shooting her own people too. When you play some of the first few levels, i've noticed that there are light-skinned zombies too that are like arabian or indian or something, but not all of them were black. ALso as someone else brought up, Leon shot a bunch of spanish people in the heads too, but yet i havent heard of any stupid people crying "racist! racist!". In Racoon city, there were both black and white zombies along with a few women. These two games are VERY identical and i didnt find anything alarming about black zombies. In fact, i even forgot that they are were black becuase it is something i didnt concentrate on, i was too busy trying to beat the game. People are so freaken crazy!
3)There arent any typewriter saves in this game, which is a disappointment becuase its like they stopped the tradition of the save method. I have died a few times and it takes me all the way back to a certain point, forcing me to do everything again. I do not like Auto-save games that much becuase what if there is something else you have to do away from the game but you can't really afford to keep playing? Giving the option to save is out of our hands.
4)Their inventory boxes are REALLY small, Chris and Sheva can only hold 9 items at time but you find LOADS of ammo and herbs around the place, and you can't help but grit your teeth when there is no space left. I have no idea what they were thinking by giving them such a SMALL inventory!
5)The controls are REALLY awkward at first, it was very hard for me to get the hang of it becuase of how difficult the camera angles were, but as you play along, you will get use to it and forget all about it.
6)You don't find much money (coins) in this game, it is really scarce but the prices are sky high.
7)You might have to turn some of the music down becuase sometimes its hard to understand what the characters are saying, especially when it comes to their accents. Plus the captions are too dain small, so its hard to even read that. Even when youre reading files, the words are hard to see, they could have at least shade the background for us to read better. Now i don't have an HD tv or modern tv, so that could be the problem. I still have the same tv that i bought all the way back in....maybe 2004.
8)Another thing about the inventory is the fact that you can't be drawn away from the action WHILE youre roaming through your inventory. You'll have to take cover or use the inventory quick before an enemy attacks you. there is no pausing screen for their inventory. BUT the directional buttons on your controller DOES correspond with the items inside your inventory. for example, if you press the left directional button, Chris will take out which ever item you have put in the left side of the inventory.
9)Sheva may be smart, but she's also annoying and a pest. when your health runs out, you fall into this misery stage where if you do not get help from your partner in the certain amount of time it shows you (a bar will gradully decrease) then the character dies. Lets say Sheva is really far away from you becuase she needs to help you activate a device or goes to retrieve an important item. She goes into that misery mode and begs for help, but you can't do anything for her beucase she's far away. so she just dies and the game is over.
************************************************SAVE MONEY*********************************************************************
I'm REALLY REALLY upset with the fact that they have launched a new RE 5 called the "Gold Edition" at the last minute when i JUST bought this one which is bascially the same game but comes with TONS AND TONS of extra stuff, such 4 MORE costumes for Chris & Sheva, plus other gameplays. So i would suggest that you do NOT buy the original release of RE5, instead buy RESIDENT EVIL 5: Gold EDition. You will get twice or more stuff with that copy then with this.
***Goodies to Unlock & Main Menu***
There are tons of things you can buy or unlock. At the end of each chapter, you'll get a certain amount of points depending on how well you have done. These points help unlock stuff. There is a Mode either called bonus features or Cheats, i forgot but it will pull up a long long long list of things to unlock, unlocking character and enemy files or other information to read in the library mode, or unlocking unlimited ammo. There are a few character outfits you can unlock, each have two of their own and you can pick which one you would like to be as a default. The Menu screen is awesome.
You can replay through any chapters you want, after you've completed them, of course. So this gives you a chance to kinda skip around or go back to retrieve any missing cheat items that you missed. Now i heard that the item shop is so easy to take advantage of. for example if i'm at the end of the game's last chapter, but go back to chapter one and play through it to get more items, it will keep those items in your inventory no matter where you are in the game. Even if you start another game and play through the whole thing a second time etc, everything will still be there.
At the Menu there is a Mercenaries game, you can either play with a partner (screens will split) or you can play alone. There are about 7 chapters to this one and bascially you just kill as many enemies as you can before time runs out. you can unlock different characters in this mode. I havent fooled around with it much, timed events make me so nervous. :D
There is some sort of online gameplay, i'm not really sure becuase my ps3 isnt set up properly yet.
There are 4 difficulty levels you can play as, I think they are Amatuer,Normal,Vertern and....well that last one is REALLY REALLY tought becuase one hit can leave you crippled and the enemies are quicker, so be careful. You get MORE money in this level, i think you find TRIPLE more in this difficulty.
Overall, i had a blast with this game and i'm glad i gave it a shot, woo-hoo! This game is worth buying, especially if you are a long-time resident evil fan! :) Oh yea and Chris is gorgeous!

the game it's cool i buy for a friend both played the game and we agreed that's really fun.
The game full in all our's expectatives... i encouraged to buy this tittle..

This game was very disappointing!!!! I played the crap out of the Resident Evil 4 and loved the game. The 4th one was scary and a very engrossing single player. NOT THIS ONE!!! Resident Evil 5 is primarily a Co-op experience. To really have some sort of fun is to have a friend to play with online or offline. Though, when you play the game with some one its just not satisfying. Resident Evil games are built on tension with the feeling, AM I REALLY GOING TO SURVIVE THIS GAME? With some one else playing with you, it completely ruins any tension, NOT UNLESS this is the first time your playing a Resident Evil game.
The story is meh. Though, after playing Uncharted 2, all game stories seem sub par. Though this story is b-movie material and its kind of predictable. The dialogue is garbage. Again, when your playing co-op the story really takes a back seat because face it, when you play co-op its all about the thrills and moving to the next level. Resident Evil is a heavy story based game. They slacked in this one. They DO create thrilling co-op thrills though, I will give it that.
The graphics are great, no complaint there. The game play is the EXACT same thing as RE4. You have an inventory where you can only fit so much of your gear into. Its stop and shoot game play like all resident evil games. Though, this game is very easy, even on its normal setting. I mean, this game is made me laugh. Your not fighting zombies but these infected african villagers, that are like zombies. There exactly like the Las Plagos from the 4th one. There slow but gain you in numbers, but easy to kill. Since when do zombies or infected drive motorcycles and whip you with chains while doing so??? See, what I'm saying? Since when do you laugh in a RE game?
I barely had the motivation to beat this game. I started the game with a friend and got half way through it until i switched and played it on my own. Again, playing on my own was a little more satisfying, but then you have to take care of Shiva. Go heal her when shes getting her butt kicked, and look back to make sure shes following you. The AI for her is dumb.
I would highly recommend this game when it reduces in price. As a RE fan, this is very disappointing. It let me down big time. RE games are single player experiences. Co-op works fine and is fun, but its not a RE game, its an action game with the RE title!! If you really want scares, and an atmosphere that make you wet your pants, pick up Deadspace. Its the NEW best thing.

It's an ok game, my opinion buy Modern Warfare 2, thats what I did, I sold RE5 on ebay before I completed it !!
Boringggg !!!
Source: [amazon.co.uk]
This game is a complete mess. Let's get something out of the way, i absolutely loved RE4. It is definately in my top three favourite games of all time. But this...this...this is awful. I Played co-op with a friend, which eases the pain of playing with the retarded Sheva, and still felt like this was a Gears of War ripoff! Everything that made Resident what is was has ended. Yes, a lot had changed in RE4 aswell, but there was still suspense-filled moments, dark and sinister enemies, etc. This is just too action-based to even be considered part of the survival genre. I hated this game. It has been the biggest dissapointment for me in my years of gaming. This game is the Quatumn Solace to the brilliant Casino Royale. In both cases, never have i been so dissapoint about a franchise turning itself around only to dissapoint/anger with its next release. Dire!!!

While I've enjoyed other games in the Resident Evil series, this one simply require too many awkward button combos and has far too many cut scenes. The offline co-op was awkward and frustrating.
I was also surprised that the graphics weren't better considering it's PS3. Heck, the graphics on "Little Big Planet" are better than these!

I was lucky enough to buy RE5 for the PS3 for a very low price, second hand. For the price paid it is extremely good value but, having played practically all of its predecessors on various consoles and throroughyl enjoyed them all, the 'glitches' in the game which prevent the series reaching perfection need to be addressed, my patience is wearing thin. In fact, some are in addition to RE4 (which I had on the Wii and is a superior game).
The good: Fans will not be dissappointed. Zombies are actually faster now signalling the game's move towards an all-out action game rather than suspenseful horror/thriller (although I have read some hate this move). Vast array of weapons, unlockables and extras which extend the longevity of what seemed a shorter game than RE4 on story mode. Fun dialogue and tongue-in-cheek melodramatic dialogue between levels, some grotesque creatures to wince over. Big move is co-op mode which is a superb extra, ability to heal colleague/friend Sheva is nice touch. Online mercenaries is a positive move.
The bad:
Character cannot attack enemies behind him. Turning is like turning an oil tanker
Interaction with Merchant has gone - I loved this feature on RE4.
No case upgrades - why they omitted this is madness. The ability to carry more and thnk about item placement was a real fun way to perfect the game.
Character gets in the way of the fight sometimes - camera needs to be slightly higher & over the shoulder.
As above but worse with Sheva who insists on standing on the very right of the screen
Health needs to be seriously SORTED OUT! Standing like a mincer spraying on deodorant, very casually whilst being attacked by 8 zombies and close to death is absurb and the single most frustrating element of the whole series.
Graphics 'depreciate' in co-op. They look quite poor for the PS3's capabilities and then excellent on solo.
Lag with online play, but not too bad I might add.
Havent accessed all extras but seem identical to format on RE4
RE4 controls superior in general - movement of character slicker.
Too short on campaign/story mode.
Do buy the game though, it's an essential purchase. Just annoyed that some things added to the frustration of the game.

This game is average. I bought it because I like the Resident evil series but this is nothing like it. A big disappointment. The girl who follows you around is also a pain and spoils the already average game.
Do not waste your money.

I love this games series. In fact, this game was THE reason why I bought a PS3. I spent hours and hours playing Resident Evil 4 on PS2, and it helped rekindle my love of computer games. But something is missing here. The makers have tried really hard and it looks amazing. But where is the story to care for, the suspense, the horror? At times it just got repetitive. And why oh why does the main (dull) character have a side-kick? Pointless. It looks like the developers have spent more time trying to dazzle us with effects and graphics, than story and gameplay. This can only explain why you can't run and shoot or run and change weapons. It's a shame because I really wanted this game to blow me away...

RE5, what can i say.
It's one of the best games on PS3. Great graphics, great sound imposing bossfights, i like the possibility to upgrade weapons and i love the gatling hehe...
worth buying !!

I do not want to talk about the basic game, which has its highs and lows for me. Others have
done that before. What I want to talk about is that this game is a masterpiece when it
comes to replay value and therefore every player and, even more important, ever game developer
should know this game.
So what makes this game a masterpiece of replay value:
* the game is split into sections which you can play again for fun or to improve performance.
From the nicely done selection screen you can easily see your current highscores.
* After every section your performance is measured by a bunch of different scores.
The game remembers the best score and you can try to optimize every score independently
of the other ones. Good scores unlock additional features and earn you more points.
* You have two different currencies, money and points. Both can be traded for different
things. Money buys you weapons and stuff while points are needed to unlock extras.
* With improved gear you can replay sections to get better scores.
* Many different collectables: treasures which you can turn to money and hidden emblems
which you have to shoot to unlock extras.
* Some extras, like special weapons or unlimited ammo, can be used to achieve even better scores.
* Worldwide highscores for Speedruns.
* the game supports the Achievement system of the XBox 360 and the Trophy system of the PS3.
There is a good balance between trophies you get automatically and trophies you have to go
for by doing special things. This gives you a decent feeling of success without investing
too much time into the trophy hunt.
It should be mentioned that there still is place for improvements. Here are some things that come
to my mind - not all might fit well with RE5 as it is today:
* there are sections where you cannot use your special gear (shooting a boss with a car-mounted gun).
* bosses delay speedruns without the perfect weapons - there are ways to improve this (different highscore lists for
original weapons, limited ammo, bosses on/off, complete end-to-end 'pure' speedruns).
* some games feature (expensive) detectors that help desperate gamers to find all collectables
* no clear distinction between campaign-mode (or pure-mode with no extras and no cheats) and free-mode (all extras, all cheats).

Used to play RE on older platforms and this latest one does not disappoint. More fun in Co-op mode.

I played all old Resident Evil games but this is my favorite. I like the action type gameplay. The graphics are fantastic. Ok it is not that scary anymore but it is my favorite game for the PS 3 right now.

straight forward i dont lie at all :)
this is the most brilliant game ever co-op fantastic and fun to play with friends or online. Weapon range is amazing plus hw u can easilly customize your weapon may it be a handgun or even a handcannon its jus briliant ive played over 70hrs and still nowhere near being bored of it and i bought it on the release date its a truly epic game the only thing that they could have made better is just a longer story mode like re4 but nevertheless the best game yet seriously you like shooting and killing zombies definetely get this game you will never be dissapointed ive played at least 150+ times online and mercenaries mode is excellent i mean it gives you new enemies to kill which is so fun but brilliant game realy 5/5 deffinetely deserves to be bought and kept its fricknn awesome straight up had it from 13thmarch and still love it not bored at all till this day.

Where to start, well we can discuss the various levels of uselessness that your companion Sheeva possess. As well as standing in your line of sight during combat she also seems to have no real effect on the storyline. Further to this she can carry a fair amount of equipment but will only use her pistol. She's a bit of a pain...
Plenty of weapons though, the reason for this is because Res 5 is a shoot em up, nothing more. Although is is a retarded shoot em up as Chris Redfield can neither move and shoot or move and reload or move and reselect weapons. As shoot em up characters go this makes Chris really quite tame and draws away from the game's role. The level's set design are good and the storyline pans back to previous game as it unfolds. Glad i kept the reciept as i'm going to sell this ASAP.

I have been waiting to get Resident Evil 5 ever since I completed Resident Evil 4, I really have enjoyed this series of games. the story I find is quite similar, but then, they all include the virus and offshoots of it. This new edition tells a bit more about Wesker and brings another old character into the game as well as a new one, your partner. I have to say, when I first started playing I found her a bit annoying, she got in the way, fired at enemies when I was getting into position and so hitting me. I then took the machine gun off her, hah! Since then I havent looked back and been hooked on the game. You can play this in two ways, 1) Solo play, the AI is your partner and you can go through the storyline and collect items and manage both your inventories. 2) Play online as one of the two characters and complete the storyline this way. I find playing the game in both ways to be fun but am finding myself drawn more to the online play element.
You are able to upgrade weapons, buy armour and store excess items in a storage box bewteen missions. There is no buying bigger suitcases to increase your inventory as Res 4 lol.
The only thing you cannot buy is ammumition which I found a bit annoying as ammo is quite hard to come by at times.
You can replay previous levels to gain more money to buy upgrades and collect items from areas you may have missed.
I give this game 5 stars and it is well worth buying at this price, then get online and I may be joining your game! mhahahah

Slash-slash-chop-slash-slash-chop-chop-slash and so on ad infinitum.
That's all there is to it it seems. Or mayby not, but I can't be bothered to explore this bit of Africa any further. And be there ever so many zombies I couldn't care less.
I sincerely hope there's more to the game than the slashing and chopping and shooting of zombies - anyway the Manufacturer's description and several of the reviews say so - but I've had my share of it, right up to here. I stand amazed at the craze for zombies, nazi zombies, Modern Warfare zombies, zombies here, there and everywhere. Next it'll be "Colin McRae Dirt the Zombies". Or "Dead Space Zombies" ...no, wait ...
But of course it is Paradise itself for the lover of a bit of zombie slashing. I tolerate nasties, thingies and aliens in Outer Space, but that's it. Each to his own and there's a place for everything, this is not for me. I'll be very careful from now on, and in particular I'll give the reviews of "Silent Hill" an extra scrutiny. Oh well, live and learn.
Graphics are quite impressive though. And the heroine is a fine little thing, if a bit aggressive.
Source: [amazon.co.uk]
That's pretty much it, it's a game worthwhile if u play with someone else, it's pretty fun and builds alot of tension in some situations, specialy since u can't run while shooting even tought that's not a good thing.
The story is pretty lame compared to other resident evils i personaly think they could have done much better, but still a game worth it for the hours of team work while killing random stuff.
Source: [amazon.co.uk]
The game plot is quite involving. The graphics are superb. The action is thrilling.
The only thing that is missing is that the characters cannot move while shooting.

Well out of all my ps3 games this is my second favourite, behind oblivion.
But this game is fantastic , graphically it is very very good but has that rather annoying brown/grey hue of modern games, the story is good in my opinion it follows the story to a climax of chris redfield and albert wesker which i have to admit is pretty epic, the gameplay is great, it is an over the shoulder 3rd person shooter which takes a bit of getting used but after a few hours it becomes a very natural and intuitive style , plenty of little puzzles which aren't to hard but take just the right amount of time to solve, i've heard its not that good compared to the other resident evil games but i haven't played them i have read the first 2 books, people are right in saying that this is an action/adventure game where as the others were more horror based.
The trophies aren't too hard to obtain for the trophy nuts out there takes about 40 hours to get the platinum which i don't believe to be too bad.

Really good to read some of the other views before commenting - mixed emotions for this game, but general feeling of dissappointment creeping through...
Which brings me to my thoughts on the game - probably like most reviewers I am a massive Resident Evil fan - the whole series right back to the first...the mansion...the first Zombie, slowly, menacingly turning to look over his shoulder...
I still have all the games and I think its one of the best game series ever - and its last effort RE4 wasn't just an amazing game, it was a milestone in gaming evolution - and arguably the BEST game on PS2, EVER!! So rarely has such a game and its developers been under such monumental pressure to deliver again....and somehow improve on perfection....
Which is ultimately where Resi 5 falls down...as a stand alone game it is good, action packed (albeit far-removed from its predecessors in its theme and atmosphere) and very good looking...but...and I played it through to check...it fails to deliver anything in terms of evolution - in fact in many areas its actually not even as good.
The only real new addition is the partnership play, with your ally Sheva Alomar - now reading some reviews some have been particularly scathing as to general ai and atmosphere-killing - of which some may be a bit over the top. The partnership does at least offer something new - the gameplay has a different edge - you are now looking out for someone else, as she is you, and can elate and frustrate in equal measure. Yes as per previous comments she does sometimes tend to wander into harms' way - either the barrel of your shotgun or a nasty, recently burst open dog!! or start firing at some distants target - sometimes giving away your position too soon....but all in all I don't think its too bad. You will find yourself genuinely smiling at the critical moments where she either bails you out of a clinch, resusitates you just in time or (with Rifle equipped - shes a better shot than you!!) pull off some cracking, arse-saving shots. You will also struggle not to smirk when you engage in (considerably improved/broadened) hand to hand, land a lovely haymaker, only for her to then follow up the attack on your target with a teeth shattering spinning kick - seems almost unfair!! But really once a lot of the initial charm starts to wane you realise that as the game progresses, lazily, the opportunites for co-op work (door opening, assisted jumps, work while being covered) start to become less and less frequent, so by the last few levels Sheva ends up becoming nothing more than a good looking and highly athletic pack-horse for all your ammo and supplies!!?!
But this is seriously after all this time in development etc, the only thing I can find that its genuinely new about the game. Everything that Resi 4 had strived to achieve and improve - gameplay, plot, innovation, story, characters, atmosphere and brave new ideas - Resi 5 turns up like a long lost half-brother with no real close resemblance, no real clue, just the same surname!!
To give some examples...1) Story - Resi 4 was an engaging, deep story line, creative, kept you guessing, with new twists at every corner - Resi 5, the story is vague and bog-standard...bad guy, mystery, ANOTHER new bioweapon, mystery, good guy track down bad guy and stick it to him, with some athletic packhorse following behind soaking up bullets. And thats it. Really. 2) Characters - with a couple of key good guys from the series returning - especially the one and only Chris Redfield - we should be off to a good start...but he very quickly drops straight into the stereoptype abyss - ridiculous rippling hollywood muscles, with the odd muttered macho guff...thats about all he does....unlike in Resi 4, Leon Kennedy was a welcome return and they actually grew and developed his story, the bad guys actually had a story and were genuinely loathsome and you even cared about his relationship and interaction with Ashley...but even though, with the big hook being "co-op/partnership play" - RELATIONSHIP should be everything - but its not - throughout the game Chris and Sheva have very little interaction at all, no real feel of bonding or partnership, she simply becomes more and more bland - along with the rest of the other bland one-dimensional characters. 3) Enemies - this is where Resi 4 really made its mark - the Ganados were a true and acceptable evolution of the Zombie, at first they were a genuinely tougher challenge, the bigger bosses were all genuinely diverse, clever and well realised and each needed a different approach to take them down - each encounter a genuinely thrilling event....but Resi 5's offering is a bit...meh...almost apologetic...we now have the Majini...the next step...well not really...so they can ride motorbikes and fire guns...great, but its all just the same again really - by 1/2 way through once your fighting ones wielding AK47s (really) it forces the game to feel different far away from the primitive danger and raw, animal agression of its predeccessors. The big boss battles...even worse...mainly just a batch of squirming tentacle meatbags, with no real strategy than to keep filling with lead - at one point they start revisting old foes (smacking of desperation) such as the ogre from Resi 4 and Lickers!!?? Even the final battle, seems really by the numbers - dissappointing. And finally 4) Atmosphere - which is I guess is too many the key factor - this is survival horror after all. As mentioned previously Resi 4 was brave - it didn't just replicate the eerie, quiet "whats round this corner" feel - it managed to improve on it - no mean feat - the enemies were livelier and much less shuffly and decomposing...but the FEELING was the same, that indescribable, nervy expectancy...absolute brilliance...but this is where Resi 5 really loses it - its not just the partnership that spoils it, yes this takes away the "all alone in an unimaginably dangerous environment", but thats not the only thing - there are just no scares, no suspense, the enemies/monsters are not at all unnerving, and by the time your simply wandering from gunfight to gunfight, exchaning automatic fire from behind walls (really) the whole Resi feel is gone - as others have said it just doesn't feel like a Resi game.
So in conclusion - its not a bad game, plenty of bangs and excitement for your buck - it will probaly be more dissappointing to people who always play Resi games....bizarrely although it has lovely graphics, boombastic sounds and effects and plenty of (admittedly addictive) goodies to unlock and weapons to upgrade (also very addictive!) The game itself itself is no real evolution from Resi 4 which is an enormous dissappointment - perhaps a wasted opportunity - or perhaps proof that Resi was SUCH a great game, even with all the additional graphical sheen and gimmickry, it was impossible to improve.

As well as being entertaining as a standalone game this also offers EXCELLENT gameplay in CO-OP mode.
For all the complaints of no Zombies - these things are even harder to get by, thus making the game a bit more challenging.
Buy this game - it's WELL worth it!

Resi 5 looks good and sounds good, but despite all the prettiness and bells and whistles the gameplay, I'm sorry to say, is rather mundane.
The Plagas virus from Resi 4 comes back and is infecting African tribesman and shanty town locals. Chris Redfield returns with his new partner Sheva to find out just who is pulling the strings this time. Gee, do think it will be Wesker...again?
There is very little in this game that is fresh. 90% of it is simply lifted from Resi 4 (dilapidated villages, grotty, rusting facilities, mines, yadda-yadda-yadda), though none of the atmosphere that made it so re-playable is present. Bringing the action out of the darkness and into the sunlight was a big mistake. There is also a disappointing lack of interesting weapons and upgrades cost too much, considering how little gold and treasures you encounter during the course of the levels (there is unfortunately no Cockney Merchant). Plus you never really feel the power of the upgrades.
Having played through the game twice I was rewarded with a few paltry unlockables. As well as being a criminally short and easy game there are not many reasons to trudge through it again.
A minor disappointment. I'm just glad I didn't pay full price for it.
